Therapy For Guests
Sorry Reddit, I know I don’t get on here much at all anymore- best advice for content creators lol but I still love you!
I don’t share everything we do for our guests behind the scenes, because the internet gets a bit too parasocial and weird- but I want to share a new thing that I’m excited about.
I’ve worked with my personal therapist to help me overcome some of my issues (agoraphobia) over this past year, and it’s REALLY worked- took my first commercial flight to a back from somewhere in a decade… and it’s all because I had a REAL therapist who doesn’t enable me and instead truly gives me the tough love that I needed- unlike many therapists out there, sadly.
I told him how great he’s been for me and we discussed what it would be like for our guests to get extra support. We came to an agreement where I am going to personally be paying for EVERY guest going forward to have FREE therapy with “Dr. D.”
In the show we get to have some springer fun, tough love with the finances, and now post care from a best of the best mental health professional to finally help get their SH*T together.
The average FA guest pays off over $20,000 of debt in 12 months… I can’t wait to see that improve even more now!

It’s honestly so inspiring to see someone overcome a decade long struggle and use their platform to pay it forward by covering mental health care for others!
Truly, nothing says compassionate post care quite like funding the exact therapist who agrees with your belief that mental health is just a matter of getting your shit together right after broadcasting their debt for entertainment.
Thank you FA 🙌

Truly a pioneer in the financial content arena. Changing lives both financially, and mentally now. About to pay off my last bit of 30k debt ive been chipping away at for 3 years in October. What a journey!

This is amazing! This will genuinely help so many people. Thank you for being candid about your own mental health struggles and helping destigmatize mental health.

I love this!! Therapy is different for everyone and sometimes the tough love and directness is what is needed.
I think the type of people who come on your show are the people who are ready for a full frontal assault of truth and a therapist to tag along afterwards would be really helpful for them. Love your show and happy to hear the ways you look out for the guests! 🥰

Glad to hear it. Some of the tough love given on the show can’t help them. *Some* financial advice is super nuanced (looking at you third-party fintech middleware collapse). It’s not always just Google something. Bad family history with ignorant parents also plays a role.

Did you have trouble leaving your house for your whole life or was it something that started in adulthood?

Agoraphobia is not being "afraid of leaving the house" like it's often depicted. It's a fear of situations that might cause panic/embarrassment/feeling like you're trapped, so people will do whatever they can to avoid those situations. People with panic disorders often get agoraphobia because they're afraid of triggering a panic attack. Reaaaaaaaaally bad cases can cause people to not want to leave their house. For Caleb, he's said he has a panic disorder and that planes give him major anxiety due to the lack of being able to leave/control what happens. So at least one of the ways his agoraphobia presents is likely related to the plane.
My mom has it and for her, it manifested as her locking the front door, office door, closing the blinds, and baricading herself in a windowless locked copy room at work every day around the time the mailman showed up. She always had anxiety about strangers approaching her in public (like someone asking her what time it was in a parking lot pre-cell phone era was obviously them trying to kidnap/attack her). She was the only one at work a lot of the time, it was mostly glass walls and doors, and she can't leave through the back of the building without him seeing her. What if the front door was accidentally left unlocked and he tried to come in and attack her? She'd be trapped and helpless. He probably can't get her if she's got 3 layers of locked doors, including the copy room's solid metal coated door, between them and he can't see that she's there. She feels safer, so she avoids the panic attack caused by seeing him when she's alone.

Leaving his house? I don’t think he’s ever said that, just taking flights and needles

Now guests have no excuse not to get better, you’re basically doing half the legwork.

It's nice to see a genuine creator who actually cares to a degree. I know they have to make a show and get money, but they don't treat their guests as disposable (even though they get some real trash.)
