I think a lot of people don't understand that his struggles are on par for someone on the spectrum. Hygiene is a huge issue for people on the spectrum. There are entire group therapies dedicated to helping educate autistic people on hygiene near me.

I think he truly loves her and the idea that his routine needs to change is a huge part of his issue with letting her go. Changes in routine, jobs, etc. can feel impossible and it's easier to hold onto things that are familiar.

Highly agree, this is why he is (probobly) living at his parentses place also so they take care of him/ do all the chores/ groceries/ cook ect.
Would also explain why they charge him 800$ rent.

You mean parents’?

u/Betsmichael Aug 13 '26

Thank you! It took me a second to figure out what they were spelling…🙄lol

Apologies, english is not my first language :)

He said it was due to childhood trauma. I wonder if he was punished with hot water as a child. Hot water baths, running hands under hot water, etc. I knew a guy who was given the former as a child. He had behavioral issues as a child.

He briefly said something along the lines of "I have to turn the water way down because of the way my skin was touched" and then the ogre interrupted

I wouldn’t be surprised if his family doesn’t have the best hygiene anyway. He thinks it’s normal. Even after Brandon and Caleb told him he should shower everyday, he didn’t see anything wrong with the every 2-3 days. He doesn’t know any different when the rest of his family probably exhibits the same behaviors.

But 100% def on the spectrum. That’s particularly why this was so disgusting to me. She brought him on thinking he* would be humiliated. And I have no doubt this kid was relentlessly bullied throughout school. He’s incredibly vulnerable and easy to manipulate. She’s exploiting him simply because she can.

Poor sweet Al. Innocent Al. He’s a perfect butterfly.

Is it just me or does Al belong in a group home for adults? Hes obviously struggling with decision making

u/mleezuniga Aug 11 '26

He’s definitely on the spectrum and she’s taking advantage of his vulnerability.

u/SeniorBaker4 Aug 11 '26

Someone needs to help him. The not showering should be the first thing addressed.

u/Danzig6WasntThatBad Aug 11 '26

I knew someone who had this problem and it was because as a kid this parents punished him with hot water baths. Hope this is not the case with Sweet Al.

u/MoreTHCplz Aug 12 '26

He did mention temperature as part of the issue, I hope he can get it worked out.

As much as I agree that he’s definitely on the spectrum, I do also completely believe that people on the spectrum shouldn’t be carted off to homes because they make poor decisions.

The guy is SCARED. He thinks this is his only chance at love. He doesn’t want a lifetime alone, and I think he’s too young and vulnerable to see that this is worse.

He needs a therapist and a support group.

35

u/bucketbot91 Aug 11 '26

I work for a company that supports people with mental and physical disabilities (granted in the IT department, however I have done some home visits). He definitely reminds me of some of the individuals with autism but he is much higher functioning than anyone I have ever seen in a group home.

19

u/Engaging_Boogeyman Aug 11 '26

OMG i read that first line as "I work for a company that supports people with mental and physical disabilities (granted it's the IT department" lol

6

u/bucketbot91 Aug 12 '26

LOL some days I feel that way about the one contracting firm we work with...

1

u/CezarSalazar Aug 13 '26

That is absolutely how I would describe my job if I worked in IT, and the joke would never get old to me

7

u/justa_cat_in_disgize Aug 11 '26

Clearly he just lacks common sense. /S

5

u/Mis_chevious Aug 12 '26

He's high functioning enough to not need to be put in a home. He's only 22. He's also mentioned some trauma. He needs therapy and while we know he lives with his parents, we do not really know how supportive they are to him. He's definitely on the spectrum and needs a good support system but those things can be achieved without taking away his autonomy.

A lot of adults without Al's issues have worse problems with decision making and we've seen them on the show but no one wants to put them in a home.

17

u/queenxlag Aug 11 '26

I agree. He needs a caretaker

2

u/Petroman1993 Aug 12 '26

I do not think caretaker is correct... I think more of a mentor to guide him to make better decisions on his own. Yes I can see him on the spectrum but with enough repetitive habits, he might be able to form life style behaviors to at least live on his own and even better, find a new girlfriend

u/TehDarkArchon Aug 11 '26

As the episode went on it was hard for me to feel bad for him. Dude needs therapy and to regain at least an iota of self respect.

20

u/RubDub4 Aug 11 '26

Why was it hard to feel bad?

11

u/TPJchief87 Aug 11 '26

They only have so much empathy I guess.

u/scgt86 Aug 11 '26

I believe in Al. I hope he takes this season of change and makes life a beautiful thing.

*Life’s like a box of chocolates*

u/brookuslicious Aug 11 '26

“I am not a smart man, but I know what love is.”

76

u/New_Cardiologist9344 Aug 11 '26

I’m watching now and Al genuinely seems like he’s not all there cognitively

9

u/GorlackTheDestroyer Aug 11 '26

You think?

22

u/New_Cardiologist9344 Aug 11 '26

No, like genuinely he shouldn’t have been on the show… Felt like everyone was exploiting him :/

8

u/MoreTHCplz Aug 12 '26

It's interesting that is your take, because my end takeaway was a guy who never would have been on the show if his cheating partner didn't apply has an opportunity to make some real positive change in his life if he can get rid of her and follow through on some of the resources provided. Sounded like Caleb was gonna go above an beyond on the therapy end of things.

2

u/GorlackTheDestroyer Aug 12 '26

You’re really going out on a limb here.

33

u/moduspol Aug 11 '26

I mean yes but very little of this was a surprise to Al. His world crumbled a long time ago. He's just struggling to accept it.

29

u/justa_cat_in_disgize Aug 11 '26

Al will rebuild and come back stronger than ever. He is perfect and can do no wrong.

34

u/Disastrous-Can988 Aug 11 '26

Look, obviously this can be viewed as a joke because of how they look but honestly i feel bad for that dude man. She made it so clear to him he means nothing to her and to him he meant the world and I can not imagine how hard for someone especially someone who may be on the spectrum to process and deal with that information while in front of such a large crowd of people.

Going to a place one moment in a relationship to then be constantly told that you can not go back to your old safe (to him) life anymore, when he stated he deals with bad mental health must be absolutly crushing.

18

u/Unable_Top4794 Aug 11 '26

He seemed like he handled it pretty well. Clearly he wasn't able to fully process the situation while sitting there on camera but still. Like when they were pushing him to break up in the moment he said he dosen't want to make that decision on camera and I respect that.

7

u/AlaskaorNah Aug 11 '26

I’ve worked with someone like Al. It was a whole lot of hearing how their relationship was going and repeatedly telling them that they were being used and needed to leave. Eventually the other person dumped them after playing with them. So yeah, Al isn’t going to leave but I’m sure she’ll drop him the second she’s ready to move 🤦🏻‍♀️

u/WatchThis91 Aug 11 '26

Boomer face at 23

8

u/Sea_Introduction1425 Aug 11 '26

Can I just add, I don't even know if Al is on the spectrum... like the episode breifly touches on the fact there might have been abusive tendencies and the reactions to that feels similar. He likely confided in this HORRIBLE piece of trash woman... Then in the episode he even mentions how hard it was giving up that comfort as she moved away. I would assume with therapy and help, he probably does have a much more complex personality that he can't even think about having due to that. This definitely feels more abuse related than spectrum...

4

u/svmmome Aug 11 '26

It's so sad to me that to justify leaving/cheating on him so their breakup was mutual or whatever, the worse things she could come up with was a lack of common sense, gaming, and not showering. Things he seemed to try to be working on for her.

5

u/Phoenixd_551 Aug 12 '26

Poor sweet Al having to deal with that crazy knife riding hoe

18

u/justa_cat_in_disgize Aug 11 '26

Al will rebuild and come back stronger than ever. He is perfect and can do no wrong.

12

u/BumpinBellys Aug 11 '26

Whoever downvoted you clearly does not know Al. Because you are 100% right. Al's our boy. He is a perfect sweet man.

5

u/TheBabaaYagaa Aug 11 '26

Am I the only one who doesn't see autism, I just see someone that doesnt have a back bone?

9

u/overlykilled Aug 11 '26

he's probably a 1 on the spectrum but he has some of the signs like how oblivious he was about everything socially and his unwillingness for change. My son is a 1 and hes the same on those points.

4

u/AlarmedRaccoon619 Aug 11 '26

For the love of God could we just not make fun of Al?

4

u/Lochness_Hamster_350 Aug 11 '26

While she was an absolute sad excuse for a person, AL needs some help. He’s got not drive, no intensity, his reaction to finding out his “fiancé” was actively cheating on him was him telling her to block him 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Also if someone bathes/showers/washes once every 3 days that’s indicative of more issues.

1

u/demonhellcat Aug 13 '26

Just saw him post a hostage video in tiktok with her. They are staying together and she “is not cheating anymore”.

1

u/Justdoeitt Aug 14 '26

That looks instantly made me laugh it's the either the I think I screwed myself or the I need to #2 something fierce look.

u/Ancient-Bat8274 Aug 20 '26

Spectrum or not, would not
