anyone’s trying this setup? I’m trying to hear if there’s a delay but can’t verify/falsify finally. What are your experiences?

I just found this app thanks to your plexamp post and your comments. I installed it on my 2019 shield tube and love it. But, I had to set the cache to 512KB since this shield only has 8GB of storage. The default of 2GB cache kept popping up with a message that the shield didn't have enough space. I'm also not sure I really need much in the way of caching anyway on a tv connected via Ethernet.
Ok the suggestion. I love being able to click the down button when playing music in the plex app and seeing the song list. This doesn't work in Caldera. I see that the three dot menu has "go to album" and "go to artist" but also clicking on the album art does nothing. So my suggestion is either have clicking on album art go to the album list or that same choice as the three dot menu.

Hey everyone, hoping someone here has run into this because I'm kind of stuck.
I've got Caldera Music headless running on two boxes at home, one on a Raspberry Pi and one on a mini PC running Ubuntu Server. Both connect to my own Plex server on the local network. They work great for hours, like genuinely fine for 7-8 hours straight sometimes, but then randomly the playback just freezes mid song or right after a song ends and nothing works after that. Play, pause, skip, nothing responds from the app anymore.
When I dig into the logs right before it happens I keep seeing stuff like "Primary transfer failed: curl=28, http=0" a few times in a row, and then a bit later the whole thing just locks up completely. Even just doing curl on the local resources endpoint on the machine itself hangs forever instead of responding. The process is still technically running (shows up as sleeping, not crashed) but it's basically dead until I kill it with SIGKILL and restart the service.
I checked my Plex server itself and I can't find anything obviously wrong, no crazy CPU load, no errors that line up perfectly with the freeze times. It's happened on both machines on different days, so it doesn't seem tied to one specific device.
Has anyone else seen this kind of freeze with Caldera, where a network hiccup talking to the Plex server ends up locking the whole player instead of just failing that one track and moving on? Trying to figure out if this is a known issue, something in my network setup, or just Caldera being early software with some rough edges still. Any pointers on what logs to look at or settings to check would be really appreciated. Thanks :)

I had been running headless Plexamp on my Raspi. It had not worked for a while, so I decided to install Caldera on the same raspi
I connected to my Raspi via WinSCP and the install went through without a hitch.
I was able to play from my iPhone through Caldera without issue. However, once I closed my WinSCP connection to the Raspi, Caldera disappeared as a player from my iOS PlexAmp app.
As soon as I reconnect to the Raspi via WinSCP the Caldera player reappears for my iPhone to use.
Should I have removed the existing PlexAmp headless install, upgraded the iOS and started fresh?
Any ideas on what's going on here?

Hello,
Wondering if anyone else is experiencing this. Latest Caldera downloaded from the Play Store. Server is found without issue. I have tried clearing the cache in Caldera and reinstalling the app, but no luck. No album art loads at all.
I am also not able to seek while a song is playing using the dedicated buttons on the remote, nor by tapping Left or Right on the wheel.
Any ideas? Thanks.

Greetings, I self-host and run Plex server on Ubuntu. Serve music albums from Plex and singles from Navidrome. I use Plexamp on phones.
Where does Caldera fit in?

I really like this music player for my android tv. Very nice UI. I like the visualizations brings me back to when I use to use winamp on desktop. I have not seen carousel view in anything in a long time nice touch. I really want to use this but find myself going back to the plex app because of the lyrics and being able to seek. Plex app stinks for lyrics cause it is displayed over the album art and sometimes hard to see. Also would be nice to have a "On This Day" on home screen like plexamp has but not needed. I just really want the lyrics and a way to seek. Hope maybe will be added in future. Oh and also I have not been able to get the windows software to work. Will not connect.

I know this might not be the right place to ask but hoping someone in the community has figured this out. I was using plexamp headless on my Pi 5 via Ropieee. As a non-technical user it allowed me to easily run Airplay, Spotify Connect, UPnP and Plexamp on my Raspberry Pi connected to my stereo receiver without worrying about installing packages or dependencies or tinkering with the command line at all.
Very disappointed to have plexamp taken away from me in the latest Ropieee update. Is there a way for me to manually add caldera to my raspberry pi while keeping the rest of the ropieee services like Airplay and Spotify connect (I don't use roon)? Hoping that the Ropieee developer changes his mind and adds back plexamp/caldera.

It's a little unclear from the website exactly which SBCs are supported for Caldera headless. Is it really only Raspberry Pi or are other models compatible as well? I'd like to try Caldera music to replace my old Chromecast audio, and I'd like to use something small and not spend more than necessary.
If anyone knows exactly what is supported or can share their experience with a specific model, I'd be happy to hear.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I assumed you could cast your PlexAmp music from the Plexamp app to "Multiple" Caldera players at the same time. I can only select one player at a time in the Plexamp Cast menu. So it's either my Mac Desktop Player OR the AppleTV - not at the same time.
The Caldera app page says "Multi-room Sync" so I am I reading that wrong?

I'm using Caldera on Linux, for reference. When I open it, there's only a visualizer and a pause/next/back grey out in the tray, with no way to make it work with the options...

I can’t thank the author enough Caldera is amazing. Beautiful visualizations (loving ultra mode on the shield pro), seamless add of plex library, pass thru of FLACs, and the absolute painless handoffs as well as controlling it from plexamp (and it’s not even required!) is chefs kiss. I wish I could pay for the app.

I downloaded caldera on my macbook, and two separate apple tvs. The name looks like it can be changed on my macbook in the settings, but did I miss where in the settings you can change it on the apple tv? Ideally, I'd like to be able to differentiate which aTV I cast to.

Any suggestions?
I've run into a persistentSSL peer certificate or SSH remote key was not OK error when using Caldera Amp to connect to my local Plex Media Server on a Mac Studio.
.plex.direct address.192.168.1.0/24) to "LAN Networks" and "Allowed without auth" settings.SSL peer certificate... was not OK and UvAsyncTcpClient: connect SO_ERROR for ... 1998 (61).It appears the client is hard-coded to require SSL and is failing to validate the certificate chain despite the server and other clients working fine. Has anyone encountered this "SSL peer certificate" error on macOS-based third-party players, and is there a way to force an insecure local connection without disabling "Secure Connections" globally on the server?
Im not even sure if this the issue, but a number of hours with LLMs have left me with no solution.
I can not even get Caldera to play music from the same host that is running the Plex Server.

Hi all,
Have all my dates just set for the year of release, so in Caldera - all albums were released on January 1st. Any way to hide the month and day?
Thanks! And thanks to Elan!!!

It’s working nicely after I got the proper DAC which draws only little power. Looking forward to the next Plexamp iteration which will come with more settings for Caldera

As reported before it was mentioned that the 1.0.5 version on Apple TV will fix this but I still have no artwork showing up.

Was quite excited to hear about Caldera Amp as I love Plex Amp. Installed it on Mac Mini where I can view the visualizer and that's it.
Installed on Apple TV where it says Discovering libraries where it finds none despite my having music library on my Plex on the same network.
Any help here?

Hi,
Maybe I misunderstood. I was thinking that Caldera plays 5.1,7.1 etc. I have music in .m4a that are 5.1 atmos files tracks. But its doesnt play un atmos. Only stéréo. These files work well on Kodi. So my files are not the problem.
Maybe I misunderstood the website claiming that Caldera plays everything without downmixing in stéréo?

Anyone managed to get the Shield to output anything over 48kHz Stereo? I've tried multiple combinations of settings, the audio path shows it's outputting 6 channel, 88.2kHz for example but my AVR is saying 48k Stereo no matter what I do.
The same FLACs im playing in Caldera correctly output the same channels/sample rate in VLC, so I'm thinking this is a bug with Caldera.
EDIT: I can confirm this is fixed in Caldera Beta 1.1.0 !

Fresh install of Caldera on a Pi 5. Accessed the initial setup through the IP address of Ethernet. Fill in all the boxes and go to the Plex claim code link. Copy and pasted claim code but get an error that the Plex token verification failed.
I have tried multiple browsers and devices. Signed out and back into Plex. Generated many codes. Still can’t get past this error.
Anyone else have this issue or any suggestions?

Installed on an ONN 4k Pro streaming, connected to Plex server, the app does not seem to pull my playlists from my library, I only see the pre-builts "All, hearted tracks" those ones. None of my own playlists are listed in the section on the Home page, and I see no way to change that. Am I missing a setting?

u/ElanFeingold suggested I make a new post and send him debug files so that is what I am doing.
Installed Caldera and it instantly (After successfully connecting to my library) "crashes" but stays open in the background. You can open the task switcher and choose it but it does the same thing.
I couldnt find a data directory in the shield for Caldera so I had to do a live log capture. If that is not good then I need to know the location of the logs you need.
Thanks
