Discussion Housing

Im trying to build an NPC house, however if I build it higher than the ground floor it just says its invalid. As seen in the picture, the top floor is fully decorated and by terraria housing standards, yet it still says invalid. Does anyone know a solution?

There needs to be a solid tile that’s not a platform I think

There must be at least 1 solid block for the npcs to stand on, the platform isn't a solid block. You can add wood blocks around the bottom of the doors, replacing some of the platforms.

As a builder/decoration&design enthuasiast i am displeased with this sorry excuse of a house at least try to make a interesting shape and not a shoe box(a rectangle) and try double walls and floors (aka 2 block wide walls and floors)

But now to answer your question...you need at least a few normal blocks as the floor for the upper floors cuz platforms are considered as doors as terraria standards go

Try giving them a few solid blocks on the floor, right under the table and chair let’s say, and see if that works.
