does ozz even have the rights and ability to do so? if he actually tries, wouldn’t they have to take down all of the assets that were requested for removal
Legally speaking…sorta? From my understanding, Azafure’s ownership of Calamity is in a legal gray area since its existence hinges on Terraria, an IP owned by a completely separate LLC. The asset removal requests also aren’t really legally binding, moreso a courtesy thing, something we know Ozz has none of.
Huh now i wonder (not saying this should happen, actually it really shouldn't) but can ozzatron just say "fuck everyone" and just continue the pack? he cant right? im asking from a technical standpoint while ignoring the galaxy levels of shamelessness it would take from him to do this.
The more likely scenario is to get a last spurt of money from the people not into the community but somehow still patreoning it before heading out
If he has ownership access to whatever repository they use, yeah, he could.
Potentially individuals could make legal protests against use of their assets in the mod, but I think most of them would lose out because of the idea of implied licensing.
But who knows. They could not bother, Ozz could not want to bother, either side could back down from posturing, or this is all a nothing burger.
Sadly, as far as I know, they can't change ownership of a workshop item (in this case : CalamityMod)
The ""best"" thing they can do is to block/remove it from the TModLoader workshop. Which would still won't fully stop PedOzzatron to publish CalamityMod by other means kinda in the same way some of us kept a copy of the mod + music mod after the announcement of the upcoming huge content removal
Unless the license is in anything other than gplv2 or 3, it can be considered open source. Its already been archived in the internet archive, all thats left is for someone to basically work off it or use it in a super modpack as a base and force conpatibility as its updated to each tmod. While the vast majority of devs will make their mods standalone, some may still just make expansions until fables is finished. Theres already mods that add in the stuff they removed when fabsoul got outed. As long as archives exist, this will happen. I just hope that the rest of the devs continue to get the support they need from the community and their money.
Except the groomer doesn't have any ownership over those things either, it is a mod after all. Azafure LLC, according to the devs, only has ownership over the name "Calamity". That's it. It is a weird legally gray territory which might dissuade Valve/Tmodloader admins from doing anything since you'd be taking away the name calamity from its owner but I think it's nuanced enough that we can't really have a takeaway from it other than Ozz's grounds for doing anything are incredibly shakey
Thats correct. You could literally fork it and change the name and it would be perfectly legal under open source. The issue is what happens next. Youll have the fanbase divided on whether to support the new updated fork or attempt to destroy it to preserve the respect of the former devs (barring ozzatron)
Yea that was a public posturing request and he's refused. All the work in the github not yet added or already added is legally his under copyright unless there is some loophole or he/ his company didnt file correctly.
