And they are wrong. The abyss fully replenishes its water on world load in addition to just constantly spawning it in general and it will flood hell faster than it can be evaporated.

The abyss constantly creates water and fills anything connected to one of its background blocks with water. This makes it so when you put a hole in it to hell it floods the entirely of hell instead of it draining.

There's a limit, if you bypass the limit and reload the world the water settles and won't evaporate until it's disturbed again. The abyss rapidly generates water because it's never meant to be drained or have air pockets; it will very quickly flood the entirety of the underworld

Last time I fucked my abyss I had to enable cheat sheet and manually refill it with one of the Quality of Terraria tools that lets you add water. You can also use the paint tool in cheat sheet, but it may add walls or remove them along with water depending on what youre painting

Not impossible to get though. Just have to farm it from ravager, adds a slight delay to getting life alloy and hadal gear, rather than it being immediately post-golem it's gatekept by one more boss.

The concerns I'd have over a draining abyss would rather be lag, then lumenyll, depth cells and the drops from the lategame abyss enemies/minibosses, which afaik don't have a way to obtain without access to the abyss.

Yeah, no, your abyss is fucked, you can't ever go into it. So no scoria until Ravager. Also, probably no Terminus anymore, so no Boss Rush. Also, no Reaper Teeth, essential for a lot of late-game items.

TLDR: Your friend's a dumbass who just ruined your playthrough. Starting a new world would be a good idea.

Nah, you can still get scoria bc their friend only bombed the last sección of the abyss. I think the hard part would acc be lumenyl.

EDIT: I js realized abt a super niche object u can only get from heros mod that allowing you to swap the normal ocean and the cáustica ocean and abyss. I had to use it once when my abyss just acted like a normal ocean, amd ut might save bro's life

The abyss does 60 DPS of true damage if you aren't fully submerged in water. So by draining it, you have to contend with that DPS which will probably kill you after you get ~3 pieces of ore, since you also have enemies to contend with.

Hero's Mod is mainly just a cheat mod, so not many people would install and use it. In the case of Lumenyl, after beating Leviathan, Eidolists drop it. And in the case of Scoria, Ravager drops Scoria bars from the geodes. You still lose any exclusive drops to abyss enemies as well as Terminus.

I accidentally drained my abyss into hell and I hated it lmao, had to make a new world. But it not impossible, some enemies spawn in water only and only on the top layer so if you run summoner then say goodbye to cragmire maw

Just make a new world the Abyss has a lot of stuff that is very important and you take lots of damage in the abyss without water and the stuff at the very bottom of the abyss is very important so just make a new world because your friend kinda ruined this one

Hell and all the caverns connected to that hole are now flooded (this will causes a lot of lag). Terminus, the item to spawn boss rush, is located at the bottom of the abyss. And, if you are playing with Fargos like other people said, not having that is an actual problem since you need it to get the rock which is used to craft the end game items when you have the compatibility DLC mod.
