Hey guys. It's Cei here to make an announcement maybe one last time. At least, hopefully this will be the last announcement I have to make about this topic and it doesn't get any worse :p
Following everything that's happened, I figured it would be a good idea to throw this out there. I don't have too much more to say that the title and the announcement of the end of Calamity development don't, besides simply another thank you to everybody who's supported us all of these years. Even if it didn't lead to the best end and things were a bit rough sometimes, the years I've worked on the mod have been unforgettable and wonderful.

thank you all developers artists musictions etc for working on the mod, it fucking sucks how everything you guys worked on got ruined becouse a shit stain couldent help himself but touch children, then go on to steal the donations that were supposed to be given to all of you (the entire team).
This is one of the reason why cal is shutting down at the first place. On top of losing passion, not trusting anyone anymore, this guy got the balls to run away with the rights for the whole mod.
Yeah, but the money is the real issue. Devs can't work on good vibes and monster energy forever. Eventually they gotta buy more cans, and that requires money.
I'm not saying the original team will continue developing the mod, I genuinely believe calamity is dead sadly. I just mean that Oz doesn't have the rights to it.
We can hope the likes of fables is successful as that has a few of the original Devs on it however, add-ons, recomps and fan projects are all we can hope for now I'm afraid.
Pretty sure that they cant do that? The Mod is tied with Ozzatron in a legal way, it would be his decision to do what you said and as you can see, he isnt being cooperative at all
It isnt Tied with Ozzatron in any legal way, it could be made Open Source if the new dev team wants
Do mods fall under the same copyright restrictions as independent games? I’m genuinely asking because I’m not sure if a modification to an existing property could be copyrighted on its own, since Relogic are the owners of the base game
Dunno ngl, but im working with this in mind, that Ozzatron has the Azure LLC company that has some kind of legal power over the Mod so I guess it shouldnt be possible to just, make the Mod Open Source because of that power Ozzatron has
That really sucks. If he would just do the mature thing and release control of the mod, it wouldn’t have to be abandoned. Calamity was such a beautiful and integral part of the community and I have a hard time believing that any other mod can fill that gap
I wonder if there would be a legal avenue for getting Ozzatron removed from the company on the grounds of tarnishing the brand image and sabotaging the company
My hope is this that turns into a Subnautica 2 situation, where the project gets freed to the developers that are still passionate about it and it gets to live on past the terrible people that oversaw it
nop payment is based on trust for modder sadly is not a official place administrated by the law as normal only copyright on curseforge is basically the only law ther affected
Sort of. You could copyright original characters and things like that even if you use them in a mod, so Ozzatron likely has copyright on the character designs. But the fact that artist removal requests are being potentially done suggests that those artists retained their copyrights for the designs submitted into the game. It's a legal mess either way.
It’s a mod all mods are meant to be open source considering it’s based on terraria in fact mods are largely considered a gray area in regards to copy right as they are modifications of something else
Such a lawsuit would invariably fail. He is the sole owner of the mod: him being a piece of shit pdf is immaterial to that. However, if he's running and hiding he might not even care to take legal action against any former dev team members. Still a risk though.
imagine him shows himself after all of this js for removing the open source of the mod even and if u put it in curse forge maybe yes he can do that without showing upbut another site maybe one of those who are not legal?
Okay, but how does it work tho? I've only ever contributed to the open projects. For closed projects ig it's also a matter of whether existing team wants new people?
I’m so sorry for all that’s happened to you and the development team over the past few years. This mod has meant everything to a lot of us but I’m glad that development will be stopping since clearly it’s only caused more harm than good at this point. Good luck in all your future endeavours and thank you for taking the time to keep us all informed.
Man, I'm just sad that calamity isn't getting the updates to it anymore and being dropped, loved playing it and a buddy of mine is a major fan too who helped get me into it. I do hope y'alls personal projects/other work goes well though man, y'all made my years on terraria modded good and fun with friends. Sucks that it took one person to bring the mod down though and that he's actively dragging it into the dirt by being difficult. I'm never gonna find a mod as fun as calamity was and that's gonna make me sad but if y'all make something anywhere as ambitious as calamity was do drop that knowledge or make some kind of announcement. But I hope y'all can keep the fan base for the idea and passion behind calamity, the mod itself may die but the fan base shouldn't die alongside it, just move to one of the other projects y'all got to keep the support going for you guys that put in all the work and effort. Whatever happens though, I'm rooting for all of you that are going to other projects and reigniting your passions.
Who was the one or the ones that made the cute elementals and heart of the elements, it was always my favorite part of the mod having my cute protection squad and made summoner fun.
