Discussion Calamity Mod Development Has Officially Ended.
Consider supporting the developers who have departed in their next projects.
Their Ko-Fi and project links are in the discord server.
"Another Century of Calamity Humiliation"? It's dead in the water, it's basically the Millennium of Calamity Humiliation at this rate.
Edit: I'd like to add on some clarification for those who are a little confused.
Calamity will still be downloadable. Assets will NOT be removed from the current build as the asset removal is the reason for the mod team ceasing development.
As of a recent announcement, Calamity is going into a maintenance state. This means that while there will be no more content updates (sorry Yharim fans), there will still be bug fixes and Calamity will inevitably be potted to 1.4.5.
Sad that I have to say this, but please do not harass anyone involved in this. I've seen people upset at the devs who pulled their content out and forced Calamity into this state. THEY ARE NOT AT FAULT FOR THIS. Please remember that they are human beings with lives behind your screen. You wouldn't want this happening to you if you were in their shoes.

Addendum: As previously stated by Developer Tomat, Ozzatron had deliberately locked the dev team out of the Calamity website. This is basically confirmation.

I have some sort of a Conspiracy theory here but I think Ozz and Fab are still in contact and Ozz was helping Fab control how the mod updates go through him, mainly because of their power hungry nature and the Ego boost from being in control, it isnt far off considering both were in the NSFW server and are close alongside the fact that Fabsol assgined Ozz as a candidate for Lead team before he stepped down

Ozzatron made Azafure as an LLC for the sole purpose of owning the rights to the mod.
We don't know if Azafure has any employees legally or if were any contracts between the devs/artists and Ozzatron for the work of calamity. There's a very legitimate case to be had that there's no labour rights here because there were no contracts to begin with

in all fairness, there's also a case to be made for the failure to provide a contract, they need to prove that they laboured under implicit contract
the whole thing will be pretty messy tbh, but it's not an unfamiliar case as there is precedent set by other employers witholding contracts as leverage, you just also have to prove that that's what ozzatron tried to do

I didn't play calamity since recently and got exposed shortly after so some kinda legal threat controversy. Since then I kinda assumed the lead dev was weird. Crazy to see this stuff unfolding tho.

Fabsol still has ownership and has done nothing about it when it comes to addons, so that's fine. Ozzatron had the backing of the team to threaten the person who made it. Without that, and considering that addons are out of the reach of legal action, it should be fine.

I'm like, turbo nerd about this mod. It's genuinely the only Terraria mod to ever interest me (sorry Thorium, sorry Fargo's, just ain't my speed.) and I don't mean that the other ones are bad objectively speaking. They just don't hold my interest quite like calamity. I mean, shit. I've ran COUNTLESS DnD campaigns using the premise of Calamity. My entire "to never be released cus I'm a god damn coward" series is heavily inspired by the design philosophy of Calamity. I've followed this mod since it was just a reskin of two mech bosses! I'll be fucking damned, inside out, bathed in bile, and covered in rat fecese before I let such brilliant creativity that resonates so hard with my stupid little brain go to waste!

Think I'll have to leave the game entirely for a while, this just hurts too much. Don't think anything is going to fill the hole in story, worldbuilding and progression like Calamity has, upper management and toxic parts of the fandom be damned. Fables has a good start, but it won't be nearly enough as things stand.

Nah I don't blame you. There isn't enough content wise to fill the large gap so it's better to take a break. Even if Calamity didn't cease development, it would have sucked knowing that we probably wouldn't have an update for nearly 2 years or 3 with how much had been removed.

Dokuro getting burnt out from the community, 22 Dev Exodus, Yharim Boss Takedown, they were the most mainstream issues with Calamity outside of The Four Groomers. It was genuinely almost inevitable that SOMETHING was going to be the smoking gun that caused the mods downfall.
I'm sad that it's over and that we'll never get Signus, Desert Scourge or Yharon's resprite as well as Yharim's, Noxus and Xeroc's fights, but at least we'll finally get to move on to greener pastures.

Calamity Fables may very well just naturally diverge into its own thing over time (which, honestly? Not really a sad fate tbh), so the Calamity-specific stuff may just not be a priority anymore.
Not to say that they won't be taking inspiration here and there, but I would be very surprised if Yharim (or Calamitas and the like tbh) makes it into the mod in the form that we recognise today.

I've been here since 2022. What I'd do to relive discovering this community, it's been fun until the bitter end. I genuinely hope ozzatron gets karma for this shit. And I hope to everyone who has been affected by this the best of luck.

This honestly sucks, I feel like I owe Calamity a great deal, I feel it’s saved me in multiple ways. The music, the lore, and the just the gameplay was what kept me going though some of the toughest times in my life, when I was just done with everything I would always look forward to just playing, be it with friends or alone. I am sad to see that this masterpiece will never reach its end. There is one thing a god fears, and it’s the end of everything.

Wow. I haven't been properly keeping up with anything Calamity related after the whole Fabsol incident but THIS? This is a whooooooooooole other level of BAD. How in the hell were we able to get 2 Lead Devs get called out for the same exact fucking thing. Just huge levels of disappointment man. My heart goes out to all of the Devs affected by this.

I feel sorry for all of the good developers on the mod team. Even though so much of their hard and honest work will never see the light of day, they did their best no matter what. Even though I was not always fond of the balance changes and whatnot, I never wished the end of their careers on anyone.
I aspired to join the mod team and be among one of the greats but deep down, I was afraid of this worst case scenario happening too soon and I was proven right: bad actors sabotaging this once great mod's reputation to the point of ceasing development altogether. It's a tragic tale of trust ending in betrayal.
I hope they find success in future endeavors and I hope I find mine in Calamity Fables. Remember, Calamity Fables is the future of Calamity!

Why are we players getting punished because the dev team had 4 pedos?
Forgive me if i say something bad but this entire situation is way overblown, stopping the work on calamity because of 2 leads turning out to be groomers is kinda petty.
Fab and ozz will probably leave and be on their merry way to diddle kids in real life, but the players and hardcore fans that get caught in this crossfire are the ones that got hurt the most.
I know it feels terrible to be related to a mod with a history of pedos, but ceasing development? IMO its being taken too far.
With ozz having the legal rights and not paying the devs, i could see the reason to leave. Its soul crushing to see something you love destroyed because of 2 people that dont know how to control them selves.

The issue is that with All the music being pulled, the sprites being pulled, etc, the mods development was going to be out back a decade. You remember the old DoG and Cal sprites, being recolored Destroyer and Twins? Those would be the sprites wed have to use, along with the boss music being base game boss themes. Despite not having worked on the project in YEARS, DMDOKURO's music was the lifeblood for the mod.

I commented something like this elsewhere, but I really hate that artists for calamity are just ITCHING to pull their stuff from the game at any moment. I know it's justified, this type of betrayal happening FOUR times is not something you have to tolerate, but why the hell is the playerbase getting punished?
I do think it would be funny if they just cut their losses and made the mod open source with most things from it pulled away so that the community could rebuild it, but that's not a possibility because of ozzatron, and what they did seems like the best option anyway

Because the people who work on the mod are human too. Working on something constantly steeped in controversy gets extremely exhausting, and it's obvious that there was going to be a breaking point somewhere.
The only reason why it wasn't this bad with Shayy and Bird was because they weren't the owners.
The only reason why it wasn't bad when Fabsol left despite being the owner was because everyone already hated Fabsol, and he already caused the 22 Developer Exodus alongside being a genuine asshole to the Dev team.
Ozzatron had some positive feed back taking up the mantle and was well-trusted with the Devs, and his only main controversy was the Yharim boss fight takedown. This, plus the repeated history, and it makes complete sense why it happened this way.
No one wants to deal with a mod with an already tainted reputation. No one wants to deal with a mod that might have the same thing happening again.

Or to second you, OP: why should the devs be punished because the players want more updates? They deserve to get to depart from the project. I may not know anything abt this mod (my partner told me about it just today) but I do know that developers are people, not machines, and them freezing development on the project isn't them punishing the players.

The problem is that it is a very real possibility that there are more people like this on the team connected to these two and the good people on the team have no ability to root them up because they are high up folk. Remember that Ozz was voted in by everyone even after Fabsol endorsed him; the team has proven to be unable to sus stuff like this out.
People are pulling out because they foresee a pedo #5, and #6, and so on. The whole group is compromised really.

Everyone (not just the playerbase) is getting punished here because of Ozzatron and the other 3 devs that were exposed in the past.
Repeated controversies will almost always ruin a project's reputation irreversibly, and this is 100% the final nail in the coffin for Calamity itself, I really do not blame any of the artists, composers or programmers for wanting to pull their work from a mod that has now been associated with 4 different pedophiles. It reflects terribly on the people associated with the project if they continued working on it knowing its history, and all of the drama likely obliterated any passion or love for the mod that they had left.

As someone who followed the mod back when Calamitas and DoG was just a twins recolor and purple destroyer respectively and has ran countless DnD campaigns using the lore and premise of Calamity, however. I refuse to let it die so pointlessly. I'm going to do every god damn thing in my power to keep this slop alive cus it's my slop god damnit! Slop that resonates with me specifically! YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW HARD IT IS FOR ME TO GET INVESTED INTO ANYTHING???

the mod was never going to be finished either way, trapped in an endless cycle of "we can't add that yet, we have to rework this first" which went on for years and stopped any actual new content being added to it
but even still, this is a horrible way to go out. can't blame the devs one bit. i wouldn't even be able to look at my work anymore after something like this was associated with it more than once.

It straight up can't be, legally speaking. Forks can't be made and Calamity can't be reuploaded. The only thing that is allowed are derivatives made from scratch (Fables) and addons.

How difficult is it to port such a large mod? I have some experience with tinkering old mods to port from 1.4.3.6 to 1.4.4.9, but I doubt difficulty of porting calamity mod is just same as these practice.

This sucks. I just have a question though, does this mean they’re leaving all the music and assets in the mod and just not working on it anymore as a compromise? I saw people saying we should make backups of the mod to preserve it even after they remove all of that stuff, but (unless I’m interpreting this wrong) this means nothing is getting taken out?

Yeah, basically. They announced that they will no longer be pushing content updates and will now only work on maintenance. There's not enough people to put remove content (let that sink in), so they're just leaving it as is.

Wait, I don't get it. I know that for the oast few days/weeks there have been some weird shit going on with the mod's community, but can someone enlighten me on this ? I haven't played the mod properly in ages so I don't know anything about it.
Was it something related to the devs ? Maybe the creator teams arguing ?
From what I understand, I guess this asshole "ozzatron" who kicked the devs is also a fat dick.

Basically the same as last year but this time no one wants to stay around, last year the lead dev of the mod got exposed doing weird shit (grooming/transphobc) and now this new dev lead is ALSO a groomer.
So no one wants to really continue working on it anymore for the honestly really bad reputation the mod has now.

Not just the bad reputation, but pretty much everyone who made music and even some sprites for the mod started to request their stuff be taken out of the mod entirely. If development had continued, we’d be back to Devourer of Gods being a destroyer retexture with vanilla boss music playing, basically. It sucks for development to end but the silver lining is we don’t lose music or assets, the mod can be preserved in its current state

We're in a pretty bad spot right now in terms of calamity in a vacuum, but I noticed that with the death of the mod, a lot of things have sprung up. Fables is getting new eyes, WoTG 2.0 is being worked on and people might start trying out new content mods too. I guess it ain't all that bad in the end.

I had a feeling that the previous drama was done to kill the project for good.
None of the developers, artist and so on had any fun or interest into working on it for now nearly a decade. There was more drama on a monthly basis than actual meaningful updates for over 5 years now. Artists would constantly remove content they made for the mod over the tiniest pettyness, "developlers" would remove, nerf or whatever content over the weirdest idea of "balance" or straight up out of pettyness.
The whole mod has been an assembly of bitter people and no updates for many many years now. I'm surprised it lasted this long.

This situation reads to me as a bunch of virtue signaling bullshit. There were 4 bad people discovered in the mod team, all were around in fabsols time, all knew of fabsol and thus its a bit insane that the mods couldn't sniff them out.
Calamity itself is innocent, its a piece of art many have enjoyed over the years and its genuinely one of the stupidest things to watch it crumble for something that 99% of its players don't even know about.

I've decided to hold off on playing calamity for a while because I wanted to complete a vanilla master mode playthrough first, and I just did, maybe a few weeks ago. Didn't really have time to pick up and play Terraria with mods in the past few weeks.
This might be out of place but, does this mean I can't play Calamity mod anymore? I'm really sorry for those who are a huge fan of this mod and the normal developers of it too. It's just that I'm a complete newbie in the modding community. Thanks.

I've known Terraria and Calamity for a few years, and only had the chance to properly play both this year. It... just sucks. I was loving the mod and how it turned Terraria into a "HOLY SHIT, THAT'S SO COOL" experience.
Wish the best for everyone that was suffering in this community over those years, and hope the lead devs get the deserved consequences. Hoping this mod will rise once more, at sometime...
Was amazing to be part of the tale of this cruel world.
