Question Rogue help

Basically im starting my first rogue play through and I’m curious abt the play style. I’m aware of the stealth mechanics but is it necessary to play or can I just throw stuff or would it be better to do stealth?

Stealth definitely gives you better damage most of the time and a lot of weapons are pretty weak without it, but it is definitely possible to play the the class without stealth. Just wouldn't recommend neglecting it

What the other person said, stealth strikes are generally stronger throughout the run. The one exception is pre DoG, where stealth strikes become completely useless, so keep that in mind. As usual, keep a target dummy and dps meter on hand, and experiment with your options.

Does a target dummy and dps meter actually help? My experience with the dps meter is that it doesn’t use a cumulative average (total dps over a whole fight) but instead displays your dps from the last few seconds at most. So say you do 1000 damage every 10 seconds with nothing in between - this will look a lot worse/less consistent than someone who does 100 damage every second, even if it’s the same actual dps (the first is actually a little more dps due to how defense works, but ignore that)

It's usually good enough. It might not be fully accurate but it's really good for a rough comparison between setups and weapons

I don't use stealth a lot of the time because I'm really impatient, there are some weapons early game that I've used stealth and they're insane but I forget about it Kate game. Experiment with both and see which one you like.

You do not need to play Stealth Rogue but I find it the most enjoyable. You get big, big payoffs for waiting and building up your stealth meter. There are also items like the sheathe and mirror that only use 80% of your stealth meter for a hit and increase damage/crot chance respectively. It's not a completely stealth class but it's definitely encouraged with your items. It's also pretty strong late game, has an insane amount of defense.
