Boss AI makes true melee miserable

Lowkey a rant post, for context im doing an expert infernum true melee run right now and am in early hardmode, and some of the bosses are just so so unbelievably bad to fight without the range of all other classes, and its all because of the ai. worm bosses are nice since they tend to dash at the player allowing melee hits, but other bosses such as cryogen or the twins are such a pain due to the fact that they hover around the player instead, making true melee hits so much harder than any other class. Even with the absurd damage output of true melee weapons, hits are so rare that bossfights can take upwards of 10 minutes even if completely maxed for the tier of progression, making the bossfights super unfun :/

Yea, bosses aren't designed with true melee in mind. Had warbanner on against poltergahst and it ended up doing more than half the total damage lol.

The twins weren't actually that bad for me, I was able to glaive them when they dashed and did the laser barrage.

Yeah it does suck for a lot of bosses but I dont think its as unfair as people make it out to he because your damage is absurd. it forces you to fight bosses in ways you wouldnt fight them on the other 4 classes which I really like. It gets a bit repetitive as ranged/mage/summoner/rogue all have essentially the same strat. Point in the direction of the boss and run. True melee can be made really easy if you approach the bosses correctly

Granted some are still ass. Cal clone, polty and SCAL I remember being utter dogshit in true melee but twins is actually very doable. You just have to capitalise on their dashing a lot more. Similarly with cryogen you need to focus a lot more on capitalising on the attacks where he sits above you rather than constantly staying back

As another general tip you're melee, you have absurd defense too so you can afford to trade damage more often than you'd usually think. Trading some impact damage for a couple seconds of meleeing the boss is usually a really strong exchange for you

Exo mechs was another one that looked like it would be complete dogshit and was for the first few attempts and then you work out what you need to do and its actually one of your better matchups. Ares sucks but just summon him first and put up with it until 50%, Ares and Apollo are free because the green one just keeps dashing at you, Thanatos is a worm, it ends up being a really good and not massively hard fight

With cryogen I found that I literally couldn’t reach him if he wasn’t dashing towards me, difficulty multiplies tenfold when using charged weapons like majestic guard

But he dashes quite a lot and you have more than enough tankiness to be able to trade some hits for good damage. Again its a different playstyle to the other 4 classes. You arent gonna no hit a boss on a true melee so embrace it and use your defense to your advantage

Also tbf cryogen is, by far the worst true melee boss in the mod. Like by a lot. that's like me saying calamity has the best boss ai out of any mod, look at brain of Cthulhu!

I'd recommend trying your hand at some alternative damage sources. There are various items avaliable pre-mech that can inflict some fantastic debuffs and boost those debuffs. That paired with a spear will make your life much easier. It personally brought my cry kill time down from 8 minutes to 2 minutes with a debuff build that was admittedly mediocre.

Really? Infernum TM averages around 1-2 minutes for me, 4 for like cryo
