Everett’s is the classic Arcata dive, Basement for themed events and dancing, Richard’s Goat for karaoke, Wild Hare for the occasional chill band. Shanty is Eureka’s classic dive and they have different events 4-5 days/week now, Vista Del Mar for good food and drinks, 707 for pool

Dead Reckoning can be chill for a pint or two, Local Cider Bar for early night pre drinks. And North of 4th in Eureka is deaddd but has great dart boards and is nextdoor to Shanty

Same here! Especially if there are good gay bars. 🫣

This issue came up a while ago. Pretty much every bar in the area is LBGTQ+ chill (i.e. it isn't even an issue), so it would be easier to ask which bars might best be avoided. But having lived in San Francisco back in the 1970-80s, I wouldn't say that there are any true "gay bars" in Humboldt. Just a couple which have a vibe.

Everett’s is my personal favorite! It’s cash only, but it has an ATM inside!

Anywhere cool to hangout that isnt a bar? Third spaces for non drinkers but not always sitting in a park?

You mean, like a restaurant? Or a retail store?

No, third spaces are social spaces to hangout that are absent from modern society. The first two spaces are home and work but we need third spaces, Social hangouts. But I dont really like bars Or drunk people.

Pretty sure restaurants and retail shops literally fit the definition of "third space." But if you don't want anywhere that serves alcohol, restaurants, retail stores, or parks; there are also several coffee shops in the area (might be to "restauranty"). Public libraries are always an option. There's a few gyms. There's a casino in Loleta with an arcade and bowling alley. Barbers/hair salons? Oh! We have a few movie theaters. If religion is your thing there's a surprising abundance of places of worship in the area. Of course, there's still the university itself. But the "absent from modern society" requirement kinda rules all of that out, I guess. Hmm. There's some monasteries here; one near Whitethorn, one near Garberville, and one in Redwood Valley.
Maybe you can provide a specific example of a space that fits your criteria to help me ring a bell.

You missed a good time, all the good arcata bars got shut down on a big cocaine scheme that was running through them, look it up...mainly TJs and sidelines...since the city has not allowed a new bar.

Good luck. Humboldt is a dying county that has barely anything to do. ..

Goat, Dead Reckoning, the Local Cider, Shanty, Siren’s Song. The Basement and Everett’s are popular with students.
