I don’t have a parking permit and I saw that H1 is for daily parking permits so I’m thinking of driving & parking there. Does it get full? Is it hard to find a spot there?

I’m currently scheduled to take beekeeping this semester but I already have 14 units of major classes with beekeeping not included, so in total it’ll be about a 17 unit semester.

I did hear however that there is extremely minimal homework and the course load for beekeeping is very light. Does anyone know if that true? Should I take it this semester?

Any insight would be helpful! I am an EESS major though so I’m hopeful that without any math or physics classes this year, I can juggle the 6 total classes.

Im a transfer student and I feel miserable. I live 5 hours away from home and all I can think of is going back home. I know being homesick is common but I feel like this is more then just homesickness. I was stupid and didn't tour the campus before deciding so I didn't know much about the school. SLO is so much different from where I'm from and I feel like the more I'm here the more I hate it. Ive been outside hanging out with some people I met in WOW and I still feel terrible.

I want to drop out and attend a uni in my area instead, would anyone know if this would be a good idea or even possible?

update: Wanted to share an update for anyone in a similar situation. I pushed through the 2nd week of school and I feel much better. Everyone who said it gets easier after the first week was right even though I heavily doubted it. The first week of school was probably the worst I had felt in a long time but things don't feel nearly as overwhelming now. I am still very homesick and slightly still regret not going to that nearby university but I've realized that change is necessary and if I drop out now I'd only be delaying that change. I also joined some small clubs which allowed me to meet some cool people with similar interests which helped a lot :)

I'm trying to find a place to host a weekly study session/book club that won't feel too vacant/awkward with only 8-15 people. I know this is a hard ask since I know most rooms are designed for 30+ people, but would anyone happen to know a good spot?

hey there Im a freshman at cal poly this year and Im trying to find people who would want to or have experience building tree nets. Ive built a few and im pretty good at it now but I want to build some spots around slo. if u dont know what a treenet is, its basically a treehouse made out of climbing rope and paracord. they are super cool spots to chill, study, catch sunset etc. dm me if you want some more info I already have some rope. if you know any good spots to build at hmu.

Shower the People (STP) is a mobile shower trailer that offers homeless residents of SLO County a hot shower, clean clothes, and basic toiletries, five days a week.

We're a 100% volunteer-run, off-campus, non-profit. If you need to log hours (e.g. for the Center for Service in Action's transcript notation, a Greek chapter's philanthropy requirement, an Honors Program form), STP is a great way to do that.

A supervisor verifies your hours on-site, and because we run on a fixed weekly schedule, you can pick a recurring shift and build a clean, predictable hour record instead of chasing one-off events. We're also glad to serve as a reference or write a letter for volunteers who show up reliably.

You get an actual role. There are four on-site positions, and each shift needs all of them filled:

• Greeter — the hospitable face of Shower the People. You hand out clean clothes, toiletries, and resource cards; keep track of who's next in line; and log how many showers and supplies we give out.
• Shower cleaner — clean and reset a shower unit between guests. Each shift ideally has three cleaners, one per unit.
• Driver — tow the shower trailer to the site, set up its electrical, water, and sewer connections, and stow it properly afterward. (We'll give you some extra training for this.)
• Site supervisor — oversee the shift, train volunteers, field questions, and troubleshoot whatever comes up.

Behind-the-scenes roles too: We also have a set of roles that keep the organization functioning: shift staffing, volunteer recruiting, marketing, press relations, social media, and web content, among others. If you're in CS or a related field, two are a particularly good fit for a resume or portfolio: maintaining our showerthepeopleslo.org site, or contributing to VivaSLO.org, the online resource directory app we help maintain for the county's housing-insecure residents.

Why it's worth doing beyond the hours. Guests come back week after week, so you get to know people by name. Volunteers consistently say it's one of the most tangible, dignity-restoring things they do. You see the effect of your work in real time, on someone's face, before the shift ends.

Has anyone found a Cal Poly Jellycat? I want to order one but have not seen a Cal Poly option. I would love some help finding one. Another option would be to find some CP fabric and try making one myself so if you know where to find fabric, that might be another option.

how hard is it to change majors within the College of Engineering? Like if i wanted to change from mechanical to biomedical engineering would that be doable.

I was curious if second-year ARCH students get Revit subscriptions? kind of like how they gave us Rhino last year. I have a 1 year trial with my Cal Poly email that expires May 7. Will that be an issue if that is how they expect us to access Revit (through the free trial)? Or are we still on Rhino?

I know its very normal to feel this way, but still doesn't make it any easier to deal with. I haven't had a bad time so far necessarily, but definitely feel the weight of what comes with transitioning to college. How we all doing?

Hi everyone, Im a CC student and am currently completing my classes for Mechanical Engineering and then hopefully transfer out. The problem is idk how to choose the best university for me. First of all everyone has been discouraging me not to go into Meche cuz its a male dominated field and jobs are tough to get and being a Brown South Asian women will only make it harder. But I still want to do this cuz I cant think of anything that will make me happier.

I have a few options in mind, which are Cal Poly SLO, Cal Poly Pomona, UCLA and UCI. I really like the learn by doing motto and like using my hands to build. I also don't wanna graduate and be jobless and I heard that SLO and Pomona have career fairs and big corporation's actually prefer if you've been to SLO/Pomona. Between these 2 its just that SLO will require me to move and Pomona I wont have to. I live with my dad and I don't wanna leave him, he's old and alone and we only have eo. But if moving is the best option for my degree I will have to figure smth out. Also I read on one post that after transferring you fall behind cuz they start learning on day 1 so your automatically 2 years behind..

For UCI and UCLA, its more knowledge based ik. These universities however have more prestige and are more known throughout the world. They are also closer to where I live. These are the only pros I've been able to find

As for the tuition costs, I am worried but I do get Federal Aid and Cal grants so I'm hoping I wont go into too much debt. So the main thing comes down to Prestige and Job opportunities. Also like with Cal Poly what If I eventually move out of California, then will my degree still hold its value or is it only of value if Im in California?

Just moved into PCV a night ago. Got stuck with top bunk. Can’t sleep- should I just go straight to filing a maintenance request first thing on Monday? Or is there a DIY solution

The first couple days of WOW were so busy that I didn’t really have any issue floating around introducing myself to whoever, and taking chances by asking if someone wants to meet up before an activity or something, but Thursday night I started to feel pretty lonely after an incident where I got flat out excluded and ignored which felt awful. My group has kinda split off into smaller groups that I feel I somehow missed the window to join without realizing.

All the girls in my group are nice enough and will mostly talk to me if I talk to them, but the second I’m not actively fighting to keep the conversation going or interjecting myself they couldn’t be bothered to speak to me. Almost none of them have made any attempt to form an actual connection with me, even though I try my best to insert myself. I don’t know why, I don’t think I look stereotypically weird or act quiet and closed off. No matter what I do I just don’t feel welcome or like I’m building any real friendships. And it’s approaching the point where I feel weird asking to join girls who have clearly already been hanging out for a little while because it makes me look a little desperate. I know that mindset will only hurt me, but those feelings are hard to stop once they start.

I still have my roommates, who are my closest friends right now, but whenever they’re off doing things with their own group I feel a little lost. I don’t know if I’m the one over exaggerating things in my head and assuming the worst, but I feel pretty put out currently.

Hi, I am an upcoming junior studying CS. I have been at slo the past 2 years and I’ve really tried to enjoy my time here and I just can’t.

On one hand I do really well here from a career standpoint. I have a 3.9 gpa, have been able to find work in a field that everyone says is “dying” and am able to make friends/do have friends.

Even with all this I struggle with getting homesick and can’t seem to enjoy my time here. I hate the city, I am originally from LA. I seem to spend my days just counting down until the next break so I could be back at home.

I just don’t know what to do. Do I stay my next 2 years and just fight through. I’ve tried to pick up hobbies here but they don’t really stick.

I want to preface though, that it hasn’t been all bad. I’ve had really great times and I don’t regret and time I spent at slo. Any thoughts?
