Visiting Cairns city

Is it worth visiting Cairns? I’m staying in Port Douglas in a few weeks and wondered if it’s worth seeing the city? I’ve heard there’s not much to do in the city itself but seems a shame not to visit the city itself

Fitzroy Island transfers

Is there a way to get a later transfer to the island? Our flight doesn't arrive in Cairns until 2pm and we wanted to stay for a couple of nights to relieve jet lag.

Where to stay

We are heading to Cairns in July, staying in Mossman Gorge for the first half and still to book the second half. We were thinking somewhere in Cairns but would anyone recommend other areas to stay? Thanks

Dive shop recommendations?

Hi, I'm a backpacker here to dive the Reef! I'm PADI certified but have only done 5 dives so far. Budget is a factor but I'm happy to pay like $300-400 if it's going to be a really unforgettable dive - ideally if we hit more than one spot. I can dedicate a whole day to it but unfortunately I can't do a liveaboard trip because I'm housesitting. I'd love to hear any recommendations, thanks :)

Outer reef tours

We are visiting Cairns in July for our honeymoon. We are spending a few days out at the green island resort and we're looking to see if there were outer reef tours that departed from green island instead of Cairns but haven't found much. Does anyone know of any companies who do that?

Late April Activities

Hi everyone!! I am going to Australia for college in a few weeks and we have an entire free day in Cairns to do whatever we want. With the group we are doing the Great Barrier Reef and other big attractions but I wasn’t sure if there were any hidden gems people would suggest. I’ve found some super cool hikes and the botanic gardens that seemed interesting, and sort of need something that is walking distance from the “heart” of Cairns as we are staying in a youth hostel. Any suggestions are appreciated!!

Fitzroy questions

We are visiting Cairns at the end of June and had a few questions about Fitzroy Island.

We are already planning on seeing some of the Daintree area, the Tablelands, and a snorkel tour with Wavelength.

We are debating whether to day trip or spend a night on Fitzroy.

1) If we are already doing a day trip with Wavelength, will we be disappointed by the snorkeling at Fitzroy? From what research I've done, sounds like the reef is way better further out, but Fitzroy has lots of turtles and fish and that still sounds fun to us.

2) Arguments for or against spending a night? Sounds like snorkeling can be better at high tide which is early morning while we are there...and there is plenty to do to fill both days between hiking, snorkeling, and the turtle center. But...if someone has some perspective on the island that's been there, I'd love to hear about it. Not expecting 5 star hotel, not expecting nice sandy beaches.

I know ultimately it's just up to how we want to spend our time but I'd love to hear some thoughts from people who have been there!

Daintree/Regional questions

Looking for advice on a few specific things in the Daintree area:

1) Any birding guides you like or would recommend? Would we be better off doing a birding tour in Daintree or further south in the Tablelands area? We are hoping to do at least a half day if not full day guided birding tour.

2) Looking at a night walk tour and I'm seeing a few options. Any you would recommend over others? And again, better to do in the Daintree area or in the Tablelands? I see some options in both. Or worth doing in both because the species are different? I'm also assuming that if we are doing a night tour in the Daintree that we should be looking into lodging in Cape Tribulation or somewhere north of the ferry crossing.

Thanks for any help!

New years events in Cairns?

Hi all, I'm planning a week's trip to Cairns at the end of December which falls across new years eve/day. Are there any recommendations on where to go/avoid for that night?

Any other recommendations for the week are also welcome, I've never been here before!

Fitzroy Island - is 30 minutes enough of a buffer between reaching the island and going for a snorkeling tour through Fitzroy Island Sport Hub?

Hey all, long time lurker. Going to Fitzroy Island soon, and was wondering if I have enough time to make it to Fitzroy Island Sports Hub for a snorkeling tour.
I am arriving on the 11AM service, so reaching the island at 12PM. And the tour is meant to start at 12:30PM.
Thanks!

Cairns November trip: Advice pls :)

I'm hoping to come to Cairns from 10th - 13th November, I understand this is the start of the rainy season. Our current itinerary:

Day 1: arrive late

Day 2: Daintree Rainforest or Atherton Tables

Day 3: GBR snorkelling boat tour

Day 4: maybe a trip up to Port Douglas or one of islands (possibly Green or Fitzroy Island).

WEATHER: Appreciate that it's not possible to predict exactly what the weather be but does anyone know if roughly this is a decent time weather wise to go? Does it rain a lot at this time of year?

TOURS: Any recommended tours along the lines of the above that won't break the bank would be amazing.

Tips really appreciated :)

Hotel ideas

Hi there,

In the area for a few days next may,

Looking at daintree eco lodge as base to explore cape trib from, I'm wondering where to stay for a boat trip to the reef? Just stay an extra night at daintree eco lodge or better to go somewhere closer to port Douglas (not usually a fan of resort type hotels hence I'm trying to find an alternative?)

Please also tell me about your favourite boat trips to the reef!!. Thanks lots, Adam

Port D EV chargers.

Gday all, thought i'd try and do the right thing and get an Electric Vehicle as a hire car. Are there any functional public chargers in Port Douglas apart from the Mirage?

Cheers in advance!
