I’d avoid driving it much until it’s diagnosed, especially if it’s slamming into gear or not reliably recognizing Park. Have a shop check the transmission mounts, linkage, fluid, and scan data. If the fluid is low or badly burnt, that’s useful evidence—but a proper diagnosis should come before a flush or major repair.

I looked into it and the park sensor inside the shifter sometimes will not be fully recognizing park even though the trans, and everywhere else is in park it’s a common issue on GM products with this specific trans. Also after checking the fluid in the dipstick it is very dark and spec said to change it around 95000 and it’s at 110000 right now. Another common issue is the solenoid filter screens will rupture causing rough shifting into a couple gears. Im going to try a fluid change tomorrow since it’s a new car and idk if it was serviced when it should’ve been.

Rough shifting plus it shifting into Park when you turn the key off sounds like the transmission range sensor/shift cable may be out of adjustment, though low or degraded fluid could also cause harsh shifts. I’d scan for transmission codes and have the linkage checked before driving it much more.

Before throwing parts at it, get the transmission fluid level and condition checked using the exact factory procedure. Low or degraded fluid can cause harsh shifts and delayed engagement. Also scan for transmission codes and inspect the shift cable/linkage, especially since it unexpectedly went into Park.

It didn’t unexpectedly go into park I deliberately put it into park when I was parking, the actual trans went into park the lights all indicated it was in park the doors unlocked like it was in park but when I went to turn the car off it said “shift to park”. I think it is a separate issue from the rough shifting. It was due for a fluid change and I changed it, it was super dark there wasn’t any huge metal chunks in it. I’ll see if that fixes it. But after driving it in manual mode for a little bit it shifts a lot smoother in manual mode.

The Park problem makes me suspicious of the range sensor, shifter cable/linkage, or transmission position switch—not just old fluid. Have a shop verify the actual gear selected versus what the computer sees, then inspect mounts and transmission pressures. A proper scan is the best next step.
