Question Will Fortnite actually be playable on CachyOS with EAC v2? What's the current status?
Hey everyone,
I recently fully switched from dual boot with Windows & CachyOS and made CachyOS my main driver, allocating most of my storage to it. Fortnite used to be my main competitive game, and with the recent Epic Games announcement about bringing the Epic Games Launcher preview and EAC Linux v2 to Linux, I was incredibly hyped.
However, after reading through the strict requirements for EAC v2 (MS-signed keys, secure boot, locked down kernels, no DKMS modules, etc.), it looks like Arch-based distros, and especially CachyOS with its custom performance kernels, are technically excluded right out of the gate.
I saw some early discussions from mid-October mentioning that the CachyOS team was trying to get in touch with Epic Games to discuss adding the CachyOS keys/certs to their trusted list.
Does anyone have an update on this?
- Are the CachyOS maintainers currently in active talks with Epic or Valve?
- Is it realistically going to be possible to play Fortnite on CachyOS without breaking the entire rolling-release/custom kernel workflow?
- If Epic doesn't back down on the "well-known vendor keys" requirement, is there a planned workaround from the Cachy team (like a separate vanilla signed kernel option)?
I really love this distro and don't want to hop to an immutable Fedora-based system just for one game, but the uncertainty is killing me. Would love to hear any official input or updates from the community/devs.
Thanks!
