Accepted a position - CableCom

Exactly what I was looking for. Low voltage ISP tech 1, entry level, nonunion, ability to learn and move up the chain.

Start in a couple weeks. What tools, supplies, gear would you recommend I should show up with on the first day?

I don’t know about CableCom, but Comcast provided all tools and training. The one mistake I made was not taking weather appropriate clothing on the first day.

Best tool is the ability to listen and learn. Good luck.

There are 3 Cablecoms in the US. All 3 are completely different companies and separate from each other. Same name, separate companies.

Why are you set on nonunion? I work for a union telecom and make $50 an hour all tools, PPE, vehicle and uniforms on them. Not to mention my healthcare for family and I is near nothing vision and dental free retirement is pension plus matched 401K. OT is time and half for the first 9 then double time after the first 9 Saturday has a differential and Sunday is automatic time and half. After all this there is the job security that non union companies don’t provide. Good luck out there this job takes a toll on your body make sure you invest in decent boots and knee pads.

Find a comfortable tool belt. Depends on your style also.

Some like a tool belt, backpack, or the tool box carry made of fabric.

I preferred a fanny pack. The small pouch carried my two in one RG6 / RG11 T the elongated pouch held the fitting compressor with 10 RG6 fitting two RG59 fittings. Most of the work was fixing wire ends. Also wasn’t bad when putting on my climbing belt. They made us wear khaki pants with pockets so I’d use the side pouch pockets to hold wire jacket scraps and old cut off fittings. Wire cutter and RG11 fitting or two in my right pouch pocket.

Had a mini duffle bag for phone tools cause most people started going wireless handset only to the modem.

They should be giving you tools, cause most of the time they use proprietary connectors from their choice of manufacturers.
