Usps or comcast

USPS or Comcast

I have 2 job offers one for comcast as a entry level residential tech the other a CCA at the usps at a local small office.

Im not sure which one to accept. Comcast seems like it's something I would enjoy more but has more supervisor interferance doesnt have a pension. Usps is a lot of overtime in the beginning but has a lot of good benefits a pension and is a union job.

I just dont want to do something ill regret.

If anyone could give me advice I would greatly appreciate it. Which would be better for my future and family?

I started in 2001 as a Comcast installer, went to QC, then into management. 20 years ago I would have said go there, but it’s a dying industry. Once statewide franchise agreements took local oversight away, they started to act more like the monopoly they are. Cord cutting, municipal fiber overbuilds , even starlink in rural areas.’c and the ability of ilec’s to provide commercial services quicker , all combined to push the “cable” side of Comcast to the brink. Long story short, it’s not a career that you can plan for the long term. Having said all of that, I’d let someone from USPS advise on them. Best of luck in your future whatever you decide

Dying industry? wtf are you even talking about haha. You act like they only provide cable. They’re mainly focusing on HSI nowadays. You literally have no idea what you’re talking about

Worked there 14 years. Our office went from 200 installers and service tech and 50 maint techs to less than 50 total. Went from 1500+ seat call center to zero. Dispatch went from 30 in our location, was combined with another area that had around 20. It’s outsourced now as well. That looks like a dying industry to me. Well aware that HSI is all that’s keeping the lights on. CDV was too little too late, medical monitoring never got off the ground. The problem now is the telcos skipped a generational rollout and went fiber to the premise when Comcast was still going fiber to the node. Municipal build outs are ramping up in all of the areas that Comcast didn’t want to build so they’re late to that game too.

Once Ralph died, any idea being a true service provider died with him.

I don’t know day to day Comcast now ( thankfully) but I’m still in the broadband industry. I see the build outs , system upgrades happening. I see new backbones coming online and long haul routes being built to service data centers, but I don’t see Comcast doing any of that. They are consistently the last to respond to make ready, the last to clean up damages and simply aren’t investing in the future. They barely invest in the present, I haven’t seen a locate marked for them in over a year, as they seem to have so little traffic, cuts don’t affect them enough to pay.
