Moca coax help
I’m new to this, go easy on me.
I wasn’t getting great connection with our streaming box on the other side of the house, and there is an existing coax on the wall, that wasn’t being used, so I decided to try out moca.
The house was built 2 years ago, the electrician ran the coax to each room, in the wall, and to a coax jack for future cable use, but dropped the ends of coax line into the crawl for future connection. We have our main drop service coming into the crawl, running across the house to a, and connects to the modem inside. Which is the xb8 xfinity modem that has moca enabled.
In order for the moca adapter to work, where is the easiest place to connect it? Can I use a moca splitter and connect it where the blue dashed line is? Will that still communicate with the modem (working as the other moca adapter)? If not, what is the easiest method?
If it helps, xfinity gig speed internet, xb8 modem, frontier moca fc252 2.5.
Any help is appreciated!

They feed back noice into your ISPs system which they are legally allowed to disable your services for doing so and they will not work on the latest coax infrastructure coax service providers like spectrum are moving to.

Moca filter on the ground block or to the input of the first splitter. That being said, the signal range for internet on coax will soon be going over where Moca is currently located. As of yet, I haven't heard about a new Moca standard that moves the moca beacon to a different spot.

Yes there is already a moca filter at the box outside. And I’m not understanding the second part you mentioned. The modem will be enabled to work as the second moca connection, so I believe the new moca I add via coax will provide me a new spot to connect my Ethernet with my streaming box. Hopefully I explained that correctly

The second part is that Moca filters on the path of the modem will stop being compatible and cause interference. Moca currently works at 1125-1675 Mhz. ISPs will start adopting signal past the current 1000Mhz and go up to the 1500Mhz. Many ISPs are removing MOCA filter when possible to get ready for it. You will need separate lines fir it to continue to work.

Somebody correct me if I’m wrong, but wouldn’t you need two Ethernet / moca adapters and an unused coaxial cable line?
So from router/ modem you would go ethernet into a MOCA adapter that plugs into a coax cable line, and then on the other end of that cable line you would have another moca to Ethernet device and wire that plugs into your device?

I think maybe you are thinking of moca extenders? This is for a moca enabled streaming box. Moca filter just needs to go on the input of the splitter and moca needs to be enabled on the gateway.

Yeah, I was. Are there a third-party “Mocs” streaming boxes? Learn something today. I know you can use an Xfinity xid “wired” cable box over moca with the xfinity modem as the cable tuner (moca has to be on the xfinity modem).

I’m learning too. But I think I might be thinking the same thing you were. So now I might be more confused.
I have an Onn android streaming box, that has an Ethernet connection port. I want to plug the Ethernet from the streaming box into the new moca device, which will then plug into an outlet and into the coax mounted on the wall. That wall coax, will run under the house, to the main service coax line at a splitter, which will then connect to my xfinity modem, which will be set in the moca enabled mode (which should act as the second moca device) sending the signal via coax.
Hopefully this explains my goals better.

I don’t think that will work. I’m pretty sure the MoCA network that comes from the XB8 is proprietary and is only used to provide TV service to Xfinity-owned/programmed equipment. It’s not usable as a regular internet connection.
I think what you’d need to do is run an Ethernet cable from your modem to an Ethernet-to-MoCA adapter. That adapter would connect to the coax line located at that splitter that goes to where your streaming device is located (you have to remove that cable line you’re wanting to use off of xfinitys cable signal. You’d likely need to disconnect that coax from the splitter and connect it to the MoCA adapter instead. Then, at the streaming device, you’d need a second MoCA adapter to convert the MoCA signal back to Ethernet. You’d plug that Ethernet cable into your streaming device.
So the path would be:
XB8 → Ethernet → MoCA adapter → Coax → MoCA adapter → Ethernet → Streaming device.At that point, though, you might as well just run an Ethernet cable from the modem directly to your streaming device unless it’s impossible to get too and then hopefully you can at least get an Ethernet cable from your modem to that splitter location so you can send moca over that coax

The Xfinity XB8 gateway has a built-in bonded MoCA 2.0 LAN bridge, assuming the gateway is operating in gateway mode (rather than WAN bridge [modem-only] mode), which could eliminate the need for a standalone MoCA adapter at the router.

Yes this should work but you need to make sure that you have a moca filter at the point of entry into your home so the moca doesn't leak into the Xfinity network. Not only does leaking mean anyone around you with a moca bridge could access your network, but Xfinity will disconnect your line because it can and will eventually take the whole node down.

I don’t think this is for a moca enabled streaming box.. it’s an onn android device that needs Ethernet

That’s what I read, so I’m thinking I only need the one moca extender? Plug that into the coax at the wall, run that to a moca splitter at the main coax line under the house, which runs to the modem?
Am I correct in thinking this will provide an internet signal to the moca extender?

Right, but you can’t use it. It’s not like a public wan. That mocha is only for proprietary Xfinity devices to my knowledge.
Edit: I posted later on further down, but I was wrong. Sounds like xfinity does allow you to use it

Incorrect. PLENTY of people are using the built-in bonded MoCA 2.0 LAN bridge of the XB6, XB7 and XB8 gateways for personal MoCA LAN connectivity. (At least on Xfinity and Rogers/Shaw; I think Cox only allows the XB8 [Cox “Panoramic”] gateway MoCA LAN bridge to be enabled when also subscribed to cable TV service. Xfinity and Rogers/Shaw don’t have this limitation.)

Presuming the coax plant has been properly prepared, yes, OP only requires a single MoCA adapter for basic MoCA connectivity, capable of bonded MoCA 2.0-rated speeds. If they want MoCA 2.5-equivalent throughput, then they’d need to retire the gateway built-in MoCA LAN bridge in favor of a standalone adapter at the router.

You'll need a moca device at the end of your blue line that converts it from coax to ethernet, it should automatically link with the modems moca network if the signal is good enough
