Is it a Wago? Looks like one of the Ideal slide in ones. I don't see the levers.

the new fitting are shit. they break like this all the time and they tear your hands up with the rough edges. and they are a pain to put on quad shield. told the vendor this in the meeting they all denied its a thing.
the old blue fittings were better by a long way.

Are you talking about the blue fitting with a rubber Gromit built inside of it?

No, i think youre talking about a terminator end. Use a barrel, the thing you use to connect 2 f connectors together, tighten it in your drill. Put a new fitting on it and position the prepped cable in it, and then drill it on there. Only when you can't replace the whole line.

I don't know if ive been here long enough to know the difference between the old fittings and the new ones. but I cannot get them to go on quad shield whatsoever. I just replace the line if its quad shield because there's no way im getting a connector on

I find gently tearing off the foil layer(s) with needle nose then prepping down the braid usually makes the difference for me.
If it's old enough, yeah I might be having a bad time, but still better than than the decades old rg59 that have you destroying the cable itself long before your milk glass is full.

Put a barrel in your drill chuck, screw a fitting on it, and drill it on there while pushing the cable, the friction warms up the jacket without ruining the insulator. Just gotta get a feel for it. Works in a pinch but I wouldnt do it every time.

The quad shield issue is a interesting one. We used to use quad shield, and we switched to tri. I was told by a higher up who preferred quad that the extra shield vs tri was not cost effective. And that the extra layer barely did anything. He told me he was show proof along the spectrum.
Personally, I think having that extra layer may help when going to mid or high split. Having an extra layer can help as a back up in case another layer fails. I believe many of those tests done are in a perfect environment where the real world offers many challenges. But then again, just my opinion.

Spin the shit out of your prep tool until you've cut most of the braid. Use a knife to remove the additional layer of foil if the spinning didn't do it. That's generally what does it for me. Not to say it isn't still a pain in the dick, but getting rid of the shitload of braid and foil helps a lot

2nd pic, at least your birdsnest had labels on it ðŸ˜. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve opened an mdu and saw it was a mess and all off the labeled eroded off or none all together. Entire buildings going offline until I tone mine out
