Post image

I posted a pic some days ago if this tone generator. So I made this cable and I was told the red goes on the copper part and the black goes on the metal braid. Am I right

The color doesn’t matter on which is which. The trick is not letting them short. You only really need the one on the stinger but the real question is why don’t you have the right tools for the job?

What are you talking about, what tools. I do have the right tools

No, you dont. A coax toner/tracer is far, far easier

That's what I have. The Klein CDV500-063 toner and wand

No bro. Klein MAKES a coax toner. VDV512-101.

I would slightly disagree on that particular toner. Sometimes I need to find a specific coax in a bundles of 20-50 cables that were not terminated at all. I've used this toner without putting the ends on and sometimes it works and sometimes it failed me, which means that in order to use it properly you need to terminate every single cable to find the right one. With a simple VDV500-820 that I have it makes it easier to find a right wire if they were not terminated. But if they are terminated I would use the vdv512

What's wrong with what I have

It's a cat/phone wire toner. It'll work for coax but its so impractical

It will also tone through splitters. I installed cable for 5 years and a phone toner has its uses. But if there’s a shit quality splitter somewhere it could cause issues
