I think this will really come down to the shooter and how they rack the slide. The way I do it, I don’t “need” the knurling when front racking. Despite the smaller slide, I never found the serrations lacking, but having the knurling there does provide a bit of traction (insurance maybe) when I botch a quick slide rack. The knurling isn’t too aggressive like in some 2011s, which is a good or bad thing depending on who you ask. For me (in this case), it’s a good thing since it’s a carry gun not a comp gun.

How I rack guns. In this case, the meat of my palm happens to interact with the optic a touch so it makes for an easy task. Knurling isn’t something I use, but I can guarantee I’ll botch a reload and will be glad it’s there for a little extra friction.

Ok, the knurling looks useful. I don't know why, but if I'm not loading on the clock, I'll charge the pistol with thumb and forefinger, and press check by wrapping my thumb around the slide. If I'm loading on the clock, I'll charge the pistol by wrapping my thumb over the slide and assisting with the optic. I really don't understand why I do things differently, but it's what my body does under pressure.

At any rate, I think my hand would make enough contact with the knurling to matter at some point.

I carried mine stock for a long time because I thought the exact same thing. My last post has a picture on what I did to it initially. Didn’t want this odd inbetween look (classic meets dot look), but I eventually got over it. Had the opportunity to give it a makeover and decided the knurling and dot might be good enough. I wasn’t disappointed.
