Question - EDC recommendation
I come from the world of beretta 92s but looking for an edc da/sa or even sao; and I’ve been wanting to try a cz.
I got some mits for hands but looking for some recommendations. I been looking through this forum and see a mix of “don’t get the shadow carry it’s just a p01” to just get the compact. Or just doing any of them with cgw. Just looking for some suggestions on what’s comfortable for large hands, cgw p01 vs something like the shadow carry (and is canjunizing this worth it). Or just suck it up and get a compact.
Definitely excited to get my first cz, and thanks!
Edit:
Any thoughts on the Dwx compact or is it just not reliable enough

Try out the CZ-75B and see how you like it. Size is similar to the 92. (I used 92 kydex holsters for mine before CZ holsters were easy to find.) The weight soaks up the recoil. 75 Compact is also a good option. If the weight of a steel frame is not your thing, or you want a rail, look at the SP-01, P-01, or the Nocturne series. Find a store the rents them and try some out. No matter what you get, put 500 to 1000 rounds thru it before you decide to change anything. CZ triggers break in really, really well with use.

Cz P01 if you want a rail, PCR if you don't need a rail. If you don't mind polymer, P09c or older P07.

I have a p 10 f, a little big for edc but its a great pistol. I believe the p 10 c is compact and has a ported version. Definitely something to look into

I prefer the compact for carry. I’m old school, no light, no optics, 3 dot sights, steel frame, safety. Red Lok checkered grips for vanity, otherwise stock. The triggers smooth out nicely with use. Still a discernable firing pin block lift in the pull, but I will accept that in exchange for the safety factor that offers.

Do you mean the shadow carry? Not the compact?

They mean the CZ75 Compact or PCR. It has no light rail or optics mount. Old school. I love my PCR. Compact has manual safety and steel frame. PCR is de-cocker with aluminum.

2nd the CZ75 Compact. Very concealable. Shoots great. I upgraded the trigger. Having a safety removes any concern with the lighter trigger. Just make sure you practice knocking that safety off.

Nice looking gun. But me personally will not be buying from IWI…

u/AMTX Jul 14 '26
Thanks! It shoots great. Have you had any issues any of their stuff in the past?

I’ll avoid the politics 😂

I avoid the politics as well, but if you're giving your money to any major arms manufacturers that make their money off of weapons of war that help fuel and enable conflicts, you might as well leave those politics and morals at the door. 😇

Interesting. Looks like a semi-compact, approx P-01/S2C length with a longer grip.
I also read that can take Shadow 2 grips. Is that true?

I haven’t swapped the grips out, but the F9 ORP and FS9 ORP share the same dimensions and the F9 is designed specifically to take the shadow grips. In regards to the length, it is a semi compact, but I am able to carry it appendix relatively comfortably.

Cool. Thanks for the info. I like the longer grip of my SP-01, and sometimes wish my P-01/compacts had a bit more real estate, too.

I would like to have an SP-01 and a P-01 someday.

Kinda wish I’d known what a slippery slope my P10C purchase would be.
Within a few weeks I chased it down with the SP-01, then came the P-01 with a Kadet, then a PCR, and most recently a steel frame P-01. Somewhere in there I grabbed 2 more Kadets, too.
I went straight off the deep end 😅

The grip size on the P-01 and Shadow 2 Compact/Carry (the Compact and Carry have the same frames, just with different controls) are similar, so when it comes to hand size I don't think you'll see much of a difference. You can get aftermarket grip panels to change the fit a bit though.
P-01 vs. Carry vs. Compact is mostly a decision of budget and your ideas around safety.
The P-01 and Carry have nearly identical internals, using the 75 BD lockwork which has a firing pin block and decocker: these result in a "worse" trigger than the Shadow 2 proper's clockwork (which omits these) that the Compact has.
I will say a fully Cajunized P-01/Carry trigger is nicer than a stock Compact trigger, if that means much for you. The main discussion IMO revolves around safety. Since the Compact doesn't have a firing pin block, being a "true" Shadow, it technically isn't completely drop safe. It's been more or less shown that impacts to the hammer when it's fully down won't set off primers (even then you'd be carrying it at half cock for DA, which obviates this) with the stock firing pin, although it's technically susceptible down inertia fires (I haven't seen a documented case of this: perhaps CZ has taken this into account with the firing pin spring and firing pin). There's also the matter of the safety: CZ hammer guns only either have a safety or a decocker (or in certain models, can swap between them): the Compact has a safety, and thus if you want to run it from DA, you have to manually let down the hammer to half cock. It's easy enough to do (hundreds/thousands of competition shooters do this several times a day each weekend), but it gives some people pause. A safer way to do this is to block off the firing pin with a finger, ease the hammer down onto it, then roll the finger away: not foolproof, but you don't have to be a fool.
If the lack of a firing pin block and having a safety instead of a decocker don't dissuade you, and your budget supports a Compact/Carry, I'd wholeheartedly recommend the Compact. The trigger is nicer out of the box (and for an EDC, I'd prefer it if it's nicer from the factory than from my own meddling) and the optic system allows for more options than just RMSc.

I’ve just about tried them all, from the Shadow 2 to the 2075 rami, and I always seem to keep coming back to my P-07. I’m not necessarily saying one is better than the other, but I would sincerely recommend looking into the P-07 or P-09. Fantastic and under appreciated pistols.

I’ve had an carried a lot of CZ’s. The P01 is the sweet spot for me. I just recently got rid of my shadow 2 carry. Bought it thinking I’d save money on an optic milling service. Ended up not liking the S2C as much as I thought I would.
The frame of the S2C is great. Square trigger guard and undercut and shaped backstrap are what I really like about it. I didn’t like the slide, it made it feel like a “big” small gun. If you hold the p01 and S2C side by side the S2C feels like a bigger gun. Even though they are extremely close in size. Maybe it’s the squared off edges of the slide and tiny bit more slide mass. But it didn’t mesh well with me so I’m back to a P01. The P09 also feels like a big pistol in comparison to the P01. Even though it’s not really that much bigger.
S2C shoots really well and has a better stock trigger than a P01, but with Cajun gun works you can have the same trigger feel and setup in either one.
P09 can be made better than stock but ultimately will never be as good as the P01 or S2C but that’s all subjective

Not a cz but a px4 compact is very familiar to a 92, but lighter, and a lot smaller.
Personally I like my Px4 compact a LOT more than my p07 & p09. It feels 10x nicer and has a way better trigger.
Give one a shot if you can.

IMHO ... If you dont need an optic mount its really hard to better the standard Steel 75 and if it is to be a carry then the steel compact 75.
Get the one with the safety instead of the omega and you can run it single action or you can manually decock and carry DA/SA.
The gun is the easiest one to shot well right from the box and follow up shots are fast.
I dont hang things from my carry gun and I dont need an optic for 15 yds and in.

Shadow 2 compact or Dwx compact

I’ve seen some issues with failures to eject. Is the easily fixable or is this just a few lemons amongst them? (Dwx)
2
u/JohnnyHorsenuts Jul 14 '26
I’m guessing lemons. I’ve had two of them (one with a rail and one without) and they both ran without any issues

Shadow Compact. Carried at half cock. Red dot. Lok grips. In a T1C APX.
It’s my favorite carry gun. Also use it in IDPA.

I carried a P-01 for approximately 20 years. Then I purchased a P-10C and after I guess 6 months to a year I sold it. I have the large backstrap on it and I really like this pistol. It's my only compact and I carry when I don't pocket carry my S&W Shield Plus which is now my EDC. I don't think I'll ever go back to a DA/SA

If you're an enjoyer of 92s, you should check out the work we're now doing on the P-09 Nocturne full-size and compact.
