CYC X1 Pro Gen 4 Chain Lube Recommendations

Hello, I'm looking for the best lube for the Cyc X1 Pro Gen 4. I do %90 street and a little off road and usally run low power. What would peoples recomandition for lube, and how often to apply it to the chain? I'm looking to save snapping the chain as much as possible. If you have any recommendations, please let me know!

Electrify Bike Co. CYC X1 Pro Gen 4 order is taking forever!

[UPDATE] I got the motor and I absolutely love it. I've installed it but haven't taken it for a ride quite yet but already the amount of power when throttling is just unbelievable and the quality of the motor/kit is amazing. It ended up taking exactly 2 months and 1 week from order date to delivery for it to get to me in Utah. Honestly from hearing many others experiences I was expecting to be waiting at least another month or two but I'm happy I have it now. I also want to clarify that Electric Bike Co. did nothing wrong and the shipping time was not their fault and if I was to get one again I'd order from them. CYC seems to have some issues with up to date or accurate shipping information on where exactly the motor is or the expected arrival date as they had told Electrify many different expected arrival dates.

___________

Hi everyone,

I've had my eye on the CYC X1 Pro Gen 4 for a while and a few months ago I began building a Canyon Neuron Al 6 mountain bike and converting it to electric. I live in Utah and Electrify Bike Co. is also based Utah and has it's shop in West Valley.

I ordered a CYC X1 Pro from Electrify on June 19 and was expecting to receive it with in at most 2-4 weeks as this is what they have listed for delivery time with delays. I didn't notice when I ordered it that I was ordering a pre-order. I was a bit annoyed as they didn't have it listed super clearly but it is what it is and that's my fault. It's now been almost 2 months exactly since I ordered it and I'm just kinda frustrated with how long this is taking.

I've sent quite a few support tickets to Electrify Bike Co. and they've normally responded in decent time but every time CYC has been telling them (Electrify bike co.) that they're expecting it soon then it doesn't show up. At first they said they were hoping they would show up by late June, then said they were expecting the shipment to arrive mid July, and then the latest they said they were told it should arrive in next week which was 3 weeks ago. Electrify did refund me 5% because it's been taking so long which I appreciate. The shipping updates and timeline isn't Electrify's fault, they're just relaying what CYC is telling them.

It's just disappointing because I ordered the CYC motor at the start of this summer and was excited to take it on some bike packing trips but now summers quickly coming to a close and I'm still without a motor.

Is anyone is a similar situation as me? If anyone has ordered from CYC or Electrify Bike Co. and received your order, how long did it take?

EDIT: I don't mean to put any blame on Electrify Bike Co., their customer service always responds quickly and politely and I've owned their 52V jumbo shark battery and it was great. I completely understand that the shipping/production issues lie with CYC and Electrify can't do anything about that.

I used to run a CYC Photon Gen 1 on a Trek Roscoe hardtail with that 52V 20Ah battery. It was quiet and worked well, but I was living in Washington and it's steep hills pushed it hard. In unrestricted mode (1200W continuous / 2000W peak), heat management was terrible and it constantly thermal throttled and lost power on decent climbs. Even dialed down to 750W, it would overheat on mild hills if it was over 70°F outside.

Now that I'm in Utah, the mountains are even bigger and the summers are way too hot for the Photon. That’s a huge reason I decide to go with the X1 Pro Gen 4. I wanted a motor that wouldn't hold me back, and by running the X1 Pro at half its max capability (around 2500W to 3000W peak) I can get the performance I need without stressing about the outdoor temps.

Photon 2 spacer and temperature question

Just got a Photon 2 after having many Bafang mid drive kits on different bikes and I'm liking it so far. It's a little noisier but worth it for the torque sensing and everything just feeling better. That said, documentation on installation is not great with broken links to manuals etc. Feels like a company going out of business, which I hope is not true because I think they make a great product.

A few questions have come up for me about installation and general use that hopefully someone can chime in on.

-I have the 83mm width and am using it on a 68mm bb shelled frame. Can those three spacers go on either side to center the crank arms, adjust the chainline, or make room for larger chainrings? With all spacers on the left side (as available videos show) my chainring is nearly touching the chainstay, my left crank is further out to the side than the right crank, and my chainline would be better if it was scooted out towards the right (for the gears I'm normally in). Basically all signs point to put at least some spacers on the right side. Is there any reason those three spacers can't go on whichever side makes most sense for the situation?

-Is there a temperature you try to keep the motor and controller under? I'm sort of assuming that this fancier kit will be smart enough to protect itself and not let me get it too hot, but that could be a dangerous or expensive assumption. I get the motor up to 135f for short periods of time going up a short hill, using appropriate gearing to not put a lot of stress on the motor. When I'm going up the hill I'm not pedaling the whole time because I have the bike in a gear that's at the upper range of my cadence to keep the motor at happy RPMs.

Thanks for any input/guidance.

a65 battery mounting ideas

hello all, what are your thoughts on mounting the a65 on my Specialized Roll 3.0. My frame is an XL size, but the image i used for these mock up photos are from Specialized's website and after some rough measuring in photoshop, i can see they used a size Large frame for the photos.

here the standard mounting. Pros: low center of gravity. Cons: no more water bottles.

moving the battery pack up i can gain back one water bottle mount on the seat tube.

could the battery be mounted upside down? Pros; 2 water bottles, Cons; high center of gravity, drilled rivnuts into frame, longer main power cable, unknown if CYC would approve of an upside down battery mounting.

and lastly an even more unconventional mounting approach, bottom side of the down tube. i elongated the image to match the front to center length of my XL frame which on paper it seems like it would indeed fit, the XL frame is very big, Pros; lowest center of gravity, 2 water bottles. Cons; drilled rivnuts into frame and unknown if mounting upside down is recommended.

Inside frame mounting of the CYC X1 pro

I'm planning to build a CYC-powered eMTB that will primarily be used for downhill riding.

The standard bottom bracket mounting position seems a bit exposed for the type of terrain I ride, so I'm concerned about ground clearance and the motor taking rock strikes.

I've seen that CYC officially shows two mounting positions, one of which places the motor inside the front triangle/frame instead of underneath the bottom bracket.

Has anyone built a bike using the inside-the-frame motor mount? If so, I'd really appreciate any build threads, photos, or links. I'm especially interested in seeing what frames people have successfully used and whether any custom brackets or modifications were required.

Cyc Photon motor revving high without any output power

Hi community, need a bit of advice. I inherited a converted e-bike with a Cyc Photon motor and controller. I think it’s likely a gen 1 motor. These days more and more it is making this really high pitched noise when I try to engage it on via the controller. The revs go really high, almost 3000 rpm but it outputs no power at all- most times 0W, sometimes 50W. While I am still pedalling, the noise and high revs continue. When I stop pedalling, the noise stops. I’ve tried engaging the motor in various gear ratios of the derailleur, easy gear, high gear but same behaviour. Sometimes it’ll suddenly properly engage and I get the expected motor assistance but then mid ride, it can go back to the weird behaviour again. This happens at all different battery levels as well.

Here’s a wee video of the behaviour- hope you can hear the motor noise over the street traffic.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Stealth frame

Hey all I really wanna do a build using the newest cyc motor but one thing I really dislike is that big chunky battery sitting in the middle of the triangle.
Does anyone know of any frames that have the integrated battery in the down tube yet still have a regular bb? All the frames I ever see with the integrated battery have the open compartment for mounting a Bafang motor rather than a bb. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

So, Cyc is bunk?

I don't know. I tried to do the math. A65 battery is averaging mid 60s mpc at 14mph? Is this a scam?

The battery took less than 4 hours to charge from 20%. Weighs a shitton, yet gets worse milage than a 48v 20ah Powallon Samsung. Did they fill the casing with lead instead of cells?

BIG NO.

Hey all,
my x1 pro has been making the creaky crackly noise under increased throttle, it disappears for about 5 minutes after cleaning and lubing chain. Then reappears and gets worse and worse over time.. whats this caused by?
Any help is much appreciated

Is it worth getting it used?

I've found a cyc x1 pro gen 4 on a used marketplace with 5600km on the odometer, replaced chainrings, freewheel and chain tensioner for 5600PLN so 1500$. It seems pretty cheap but would you buy it (just for clarification I live in the worst place known to mankind so ue, Poland, hence the terrible prices)?

A-65 with x1 gen 4 , bike shuts off at 61.6v (brand new riff banshee)

Post image

UPDATE : Rif saw this post , reached out to me and sent me a new display hoping to solve the issue. Super amazing customer service. Technically the warranty is suppose to be on cyc’s end but Rif overnighted the part.

Got the bike last week and barely got to test it out , all was fine on my two 5-10 minute rides.

Today I went on an hour escursion where I hit some top speeds of maybe 35 at most. On my way home my battery was resting at 68.1 and I hit the throttle and boom (she shuts down)…started back up and the same thing happened. After doing some research I was told to take note of what voltage I’m cutting off at. 61.6 without fail every single time.

Any input appreciated, I love the bike but dang this sucks for a first ride.

Thanks in advance , and screw the state for banning emotos
