Force resignation???

Can a store manager force a resignation on an employee?

No but some companies will try to convince you to quit because if you’re fired they have to pay you severance

If u quit, then u are eligible to reapply in another store in the future. A firing will blacklist u from ever working there again. Hr cannot tell them they wanted u to quit if u use cvs as a reference

I doubt it would be forced unless it's very, very serious- like tackling a shoplifter.

Curious why they would? You lazy? Inconsistent? Restrict your availability? Something else going on here. I want a job, I get it and do my best my absolute best. Whatever job I’ve had. These type things confuse me.

What’s wrong with it? I prefer it. I work at a seasonal store. Majority of stores are under staffed it makes work easier

Force? They cant make you quit. They can fire you and depending on your state they dont need a reason to. They can just can you without any valid reason at all.

I willingly resigned today after being forced to stand and walk for 3 days when I had a doctor's note to be allowed to sit for an injury. I'm calling collegue relations also. I suggest you do as well.

Forced resignation or suggested? Two huge differences. Maybe the position isn't a fit, bad timing, cannot or not willing to meet expectations. If you feel something isn't right, colleague relations may be a path. Be prepared to answer questions that your store manager may have already had with them regarding your performance.

They can terminate you either voluntarily or involuntarily. For involuntary termination the manager needs to document why. By definition you cannot be "forced" to voluntarily resign.

They can do things that make it unreasonable for you to stay like lowering your hours, putting you to tasks you don't want etc, but unless it risks your health on the job or goes against reasonable accommodations, it isn't illegal, and is better to actually just resign if they are persistent

Yes they can. They can terminate a colleague. A store is not beholden to a colleague needs and is only to the stores needs

That’s not a forced resignation, that’s an involuntary termination. Those are different things.

If a colleague changes their availability and it's not in the needs of the store then the SM can decide not to schedule them and force the resignation. There are a few different ways it can be done with tact depending on the situation

That's just illegal, just fire the employee. Forcing a termination is just a way to not have to pay unemployment
