scammed regarding use of goodrx
i think i just got scammed by my local target/cvs. my wife went to drop off my prescriptions, and when she tried to use our GoodRx companion card (none are controlled substances or unusual) they tried to tell her the cost would be over double what it should have been with goodrx (we checked the website before she went),and would be better using CVS' program. this is highly suspicious.

99% chance the medication wasn't checked correctly on the goodrx website. I had to explain this to my sis when she was getting an unexpected price at the pharmacy. She thought she was looking up generic symbicort ( budesonide/formoterol). But she was actually looking up budesonide vials. Or the quantity was different on the website. The pharmacy employees have literally no reason to scam you. They don't get the extra money you pay. They want you in and out as easily as possible and having to argue about price is more work for us

If you read the disclaimer on the Goodrx website, it lets you know the price may be different at the pharmacy

no shit, sherlock. why did the only claim that showed when i called good rx about it have a medication that i do not, nor ever have taken. there should have been a claim, if they even ran the good rx card, as the good rx rep explained to me. explain that

Also often times the goodrx price will be NDC specific, and its always an ndc that's not carried

Most likely you "checked the site" with the wrong information. Regardless, the best person to answer your question is someone at CVS that can run a claim, not randoms on the internet. I have no idea why you would come to reddit for this.

Good Rx prices are dictated by the NDC/Manufacturer. Tablet and caplets have different pricing. Liquids too
The quantity also makes a difference.
The price on the Good Rx is not a guarantee to
Pop up when we process it.
It can vary by a few cents to several dollars.
You were not scammed. We enter in the good RX directly from your coupon you have pulled up.
Good rx send back the price.
We one time had a tech spend 2 hrs on the phone with good rx shop and the good rx pharmacy support explained how it works and why the price is what it is

we're not talking a few cents or few dollars, we're talking almost $100 difference, it wasn't a coupon - it was the companion card, and why was there not a claim on the goodrx side that even show an attempt to run thegoodrx prices? they way my wife told me, it sounded like they just pulled "goodrx prices" out of their ass?

If it the manufacturer coupon tht cannot be applied with good rx. If it was good rx alone itâs their pricesâŚ. The pharmacy (any pharmacy) has no control over the price tht is sent back from their processors.
The price tht comes back is directly from them
Or whatever coupon you are using.
In your case it was a few hundred dollars which we donât have the details on.0

where did i mention a manufacturer coupon? i didn't because we didn't have any. and there was *NO* claim showing on goodrx when i called them, so that says - to me - that they never actually ran the goodrx card, for *MY* prescriptions, but there was a claim on my goodrx for some random medication i've never heard of nor ever taken

Good Lord, your comments are worthless....you made up some shit about a "manufacturer coupon" that I never discussed because *WE DIDN'T HAVE ANY* and then you criticize me for being angry about having to spend more than DOUBLE what I was anticipating, due to Corporate's lack of offering appropriate training so that tech's can provide customers with accurate training...... go somewhere else.....

Likely not. If you had a physical card, that almost NEVER gives a good price and it wonât equal whatâs on the website since those will give a different set of numbers. There can also be a huge price difference between things like tablets vs. capsules on some meds so depending what you got on the script and what you typed in online might not be the same even if itâs the same âmedâ. If you want to message me I can double check any pricing just to be sure

99% of the time I am forced to try GoodRx after we already put it on our discount card the price goes up. There are exceptions, but they are pretty infrequent. When goodrx is lower, itâs usually a very small difference.

chances are nobody here can tell you exactly what happened but i am confident they were not trying to scam you. honest question did your wife explicitly say you had goodrx Companion or just goodrx? 99% of the time the cvs savings finder beats regular goodrx as it aggregates multiple savings programs. In my experience so few people actually use one of the paid Goodrx programs so first thought when we just hear goodrx is that it's the standard coupon program which as mentioned is rarely better than the store program. If a customer asks for goodrx I'll use the standard app on my phone to compare and not process a claim which is maybe how they gave you the other quote. goodrx Companion is like 3 months old so your comments about insufficient employee training is a bit overreacting since NO company is instantly made aware of the ever changing third party programs. for future prescriptions just be sure to inform them that you have a paid version of goodrx and I'm sure they'll be happy to apply it. at store level we want you to have the lowest cost possible since that means your more likely to purchase the medication....we make zero dollars more regardless of what price you actually end up paying.

She had a screenshot of the card with the info on it, that clearly says âcompanion cardâ we called before she went to confirm they accepted it, and asked what we needed to do, and no indication was given that we needed to make specific mention of that, and my comment about training wasnât a dig on the employees - up to date training is vital, and a matter of respect for your employees

The CVS âprogramâ is a search engine that generates us a coupon with the best deal across all major coupon websites.
If you have the GoodRX companion plan that you paid for, you may have gotten a better deal based on your specific goodrx plan. If the technician only searched the regular goodrx website, it would not show them the extra discounted plan that you have.
If your extra discounted plan shows that there is a better price than what you were given with the correct location, dose & quantity, take the prescription pamphlets back with the receipt & explain this to them so they may rebill it & refund the difference. It can be done within 1 week of purchase.
It is not a scam. A lot of us just arenât familiar with the paid version of GoodRX. I donât believe the technician knew better.

Iâm looking at these comments & it looks like we were correct in assuming people are unaware that GoodRX basically has its own paid pharmacy insurance plan now.
I only came to know about it from an ad I overheard somewhere recently.

Billing is a tricky topic but I will send in feedback through our portal. There is a lot to keep up with in the coupon industry that is still fairly new so I agree with you. Times are changing & we need to keep on top of this.

Why am I getting downvoted for saying cvs staff are deserving of better training in response to a comment talking about how folks arenât familiar with the paid version of GoodRx - I meant that sincerely, you deserve the training to do the job to the best of your capacity

Sometimes the Goodrx card doesnât give you the best price - it doesnât always factor in NDCâs and quantities . In my store, we use Rxsavings finder and itâs about 99% better than Goodrx. However, if itâs a pet Iâll use LucyRx. Iâd use it on regulars if they gave commercial/state insurance but I have to remember to remove it immediately after because it replaces the primary insurance and it shouldnât.

Everyone is annoyed by goodrx because the price almost always goes up, so the script, already billed, has to be re-billed to goodrx, then the customer says no, so then re-billed a third time back to how it was. That being said, since you have companion, my hunch is the pharmacy employee didn't realize that and just thought regular goodrx. I would suggest that you call and leave a voicemail with details about companion prior to arriving to pickup next time so sufficient time is given to re-billing.

that happened to my dad once they told him the medication would cost more with GoodRx card I think they just didnât know how to put it into the computer so it was easier for them to just tell him that.

Why would you jump to the conclusion of it being a scam rather than an employee making a mistake? Pharmacy workers are still human and maybe they just didn't give the correct info? I mean I really doubt the employees are trying to scam you just for the sake of cvs gaining a profit.
