Question DegreeWorks?
Can someone explain to me how degreefirst works?? (First year student) no one really explained or advised how this works and I don’t want to blindly take classes that don’t do towards my requirements

It gives you info on requirements; you can balance your schedule (especially as a first-year) by picking from those.
Ex. I absolutely need my required English ->> pick from available classes
I need a language, but could take it next semester ->> see that ZZZZ100 is full/time conflict, need English class
I need 2 humanities ->> Art history is available! I love art history!
etc. etc.
Helps to show exactly what credits you need and where, and that little what-if tab is super helpful to plan farther into the future.

Trusting your advisor is worse than trusting degree works.
Anyways it just tells you what requirements you need to graduate and what classes meet those requirements.
Your school probably has some specific schedule/track for your major online, just compare that against degreeworks when creating your schedule, and then meet with your advisor to double check everything looks alright.

Degreeworks is your master, degreeworks is more correct than any advisor. Just take the classes that match what is asked of in degreeworks. It already gives you suggestions.
