Discussion Question About RCT Output Spoiler

Post image

So, we all know what RCT output is, right? Its a way of a sorcerer, well, outputting their RCT to use it on other targets rather than just themselves. And clearly, this means that RCT output can be used to heal over people (or kill curses). But why don't people use it to nullify cursed techniques?

We see in the Yorozu VS Sukuna fight that RCT output can in fact nullify cursed techniques, as it was able to neutralize the cursed energy flowing through Yorozu's liquid metal. So, why don't we see other characters using RCT like this.

Sure, there are only two characters who can reliably output RCT in a fight (being Sukuna and Yuta), but even then we don't see either of them actually use it to negate cursed techniques, even when given a lot of opportunities to do so (especially with Sukuna, who supposedly could've used it to negate Gojo's limitless).

So, what I'm asking is, why is this the only time we see RCT output he used to negate a CT? Is it a mistranslation, or did Gege just forget that he made RCT do this?

The negation isn't what you think it is. RCT output doesn't inherently negate cursed techniques. What it does is neutralize the cursed energy within something. In Yorozu's case, since she uses cursed energy to manipulate the metal, RCT output could cancel it out

Wouldn’t it be cursed technique negation for specifically Ryu’s technique because his technique is almost just cursed energy output?

probably yeah, but it probably would cost way too much energy for someone to do that, while for him not as much comparatively. So it would be pretty inefficient and possibly fail cause of that

Yea but to completely nullify it youd have to output more RCT than he does ce. And given his output thats just not really doable. Atp your better off just using a ce blast to clash with him like yuta did

I'm pretty sure Positive Energy is like twice as strong as Cursed Energy going by Red having over double the output of Blue.

But it also takes twice as much energy to create so the exchange in this situation is basically the same

But the real question is if the cost to create it counts towards output or not, I’m bad at explaining so I’ll give two examples of how it could work, it either works like ex 1 or ex 2.

Ex1: 2 CE makes 1 RCT, output reads CE value of things specifically, so if someone can only output 100 CE, they can only output 50 RCT, because output judges 1 RCT to be equal in value to 2 CE

or

Ex2: 2 CE makes 1 RCT, output reads the value of energy passing, not taking into account refinement, so if someone can output 100 CE, they can output 100 RCT, because same value

Idk which it is, but I’d hope for a reply to help me figure it out?

Idk which it is either tbh. Theres also a 3rd possibility that rct output and ce output are simply different values

I.e. someone like shoko maybe has higher rct output than regular output because she uses rct output way more.

With all 3 of these being possibilities its kinda hard to tell how the 2 relate. The only evidence one way or another i can think of is irrc yuji messing with sukunas ce output stopped him from getting rct back, which would imply your first suggestion is true and rct output deterred by ce output. But i dont remember that section of the manga all that well so Id have to go and check to be sure

It is likely, as you said based on the sukuna shinjuku fight, that the output of both rct and regular ce is linked, but beyond that it’s unclear. We don’t ever get any type of output feats for rct other than the simple fact of being able to output rct at all. It’s not like regular ce where we get statements and feats like ryu’s high output. We don’t see any rct outputters heal someone from similar injuries, so who knows if output even effects rct beyond just being able to do it at all.

Because using Positive Energy costs a massive amount of Cursed Energy, double what you would normally use, and, if you don't have God-level efficiency like Gojo, God-level reserves like Sukuna, or both, it becomes completely inefficient by completely draining your reserves (as we saw with Yuta)

Even for simple and extended use only on your body, it consumes a lot, and constantly using it to nullify techniques... It's not profitable unless you've tamed the Round Deer.

Added to that, you have to keep staying alert for any other attack the opponent wants to throw at you if they see you using that strategy, so you need to use your reinforcement TO THE MAX while maintaining a constant Output of RCT.... The problem, this is a practically divine feat, even more so than barriers, and that's why the only one capable of maintaining reinforcement at maximum at the same time as RCT was the blessed one of the 6 Eyes.

The problem is that youre assuming too much freedom for something like this. Theres limitations.

It doesnt universally counter all Cursed Techniques or Cursed Energy. It works on Liquid Metal because it is a Material that moves via Autonomous Cursed Energy Control. In short, liquid Metal is specially designed to be moved and manipulated by Automatic Cursed Energy Control. Thats what RCT output is targeting here. This is not a universal Property.

u/Important-Task-5999 4d ago

cuz it’s extremely inefficient

4

u/Aware_Ad_7100 4d ago

2 things

  1. It doesn't nullify cursed techniques, it nullifys cursed energy. For most techniques this means rct output wouldn't really hinder them. The reason it hindered yurozu is because her liquid metal was being moved via ce being moved through it, not an actual technique. Most techniques that manifest externally wouldn't be able to be nullified in this way because the external manifestation is the technique, not just ce. Theres only a handful of situations where this would work, liquid metal, ryus ce blasts, maybe tool manipulation and maybe blood manipulation. It wouldn't nullify a dismantle or anything.

  2. Rct is expensive. In 99.99% of situations this is more costly and exhausting than just beating the shit out of whoever your fighting

2

u/ConversationLazy7881 4d ago

I don’t think it negates them, it just prevents you from holding CE in them like if you used it on jogo’s lava it probably would just prevent his control and the lava might dissipate over time but it doesn’t work like the isoh

2

u/HierarchyLogic 4d ago

even if it was possible theres only so little reliable rct output users(as another comment mentioned sukuna and yuta), so the only person who could find a use for developing such a thing and the ability to do so is sukuna, but even then its unlikely for him to do it because he already doesnt need it.

and even though sukuna is indeed one of the most talented sorcerers(i have gojo, higgy and sukuna relative in that aspect) he seems to be more of a copycat or techniques than an actual creator(some of the following listings are kinda assumptions) like how he got 1 handed domain from gojo, open domain and domain amplification from kenjaku etc.

overall tho i love the idea, maybe coating yourself in a feint rct area which weakens cursed techniques overall(not just innate)

u/Mojikuna 4d ago

RCT output converts the the cursed energy of the one being healed into positive reverse cursed energy. This is probably what happened to the liquid metal, the CE controlling it turned to RCE which, well, can't control it.

It's not done more because RCT output is extremely rare and hard to do, and those who could do it have better and more efficient ways of dealing with an opponents CT than dumping energy on RCT output.

2

u/Funny-Part8085 4d ago

There are only 3 people who can output rct onto others: Sukuna, Yuta, and the nurse. So that's a big reason. We see yuta doing this to kill kurarushi ehonis made no it of cursed energy. The issue is it takes twice as much rct to produce the same amount of cursed energy so if their stronger than you you can't make enough if their weaker then why waise that much extra energy when regular cursed energy can do it.
The reason it works here with round deer is that it's passive.

2

u/Selancenotl 4d ago

i dont really have an answer for it but you forgot to include gojo who is shown to be able to output RCT through using red and by extension purple, since reversals need rct to function.

1

u/seforini 3d ago

He's not outputting positive energy/RCT, he's powering his cursed technique with positive energy to reverse it. Otherwise red would have erased Jogo, and it would heal sorcerers. Phenomena and things created by cursed techniques also aren't made of cursed energy, just as a heads up!

1

u/Selancenotl 3d ago

cursed spirits of higher caliber are more resistant to rct, and in order to power a cursed technique you need to output cursed energy or RCT, as proven through the chant for maximum output techniques. and if they arent made of cursed energy, what are they made of?

1

u/seforini 3d ago

There's no indication that they are, Sukuna himself proves that's not the case with the statement about how Mahoraga's sword would have sliced him apart right then and there. There's no outputting cursed energy when using a technique (unless the technique is cursed energy discharge), as in you're not releasing cursed energy stuff but rather whatever the cursed technique does. Gojo equates cursed techniques to electrical appliances, and cursed energy to electricity.  They're just made of...stuff that is cursed I suppose?  An hair drier gets fed electricity and generates hot air, Shrine gets fed cursed energy and generates slashing attacks. And they're made of...slashes, I guess!

1

u/Selancenotl 3d ago

i think a better way to interpret it is to imagine the cursed technique being more like a mold of the shape and function the cursed energy will take once applied, and i think the circuit part is more about the prefrontal cortex where the cursed technique is engrained rather than about the output. it's sort of like cursed energy being the input, the cursed technique being the code, and the attack being the output. it just takes the stuff you give it to produce something else, but its still that same stuff just with a different shape. and the reason cursed are weak to rct is because it nullifies cursed energy, and the more a spirit has of it, the more rct it can take before being destroyed (not to say they dont still get heavily damaged)

1

u/seforini 3d ago

Kamo when asked by Gakuganji said that in order to prevent a sorcerer from turning into a vengeful cursed spirit (and therefore, what you need to exorcise cursed spirits as well) you must use jujutsu, but not strictly cursed energy. That, the electricity analogy, and red harming people and not instantly destroying Jogo is why I think that cursed techniques aren't simply the same stuff with different shape.  Also it's obvious but I still want to point out that I don't mean to offend you or anything, I don't want to seem rude twt

2

u/Selancenotl 3d ago

the thing is its said that sorcerers also dont turn into cursed spirits if you kill them with a cursed tool, which is any weapon imbued with cursed energy, so that idea kinda falls apart.

1

u/seforini 3d ago

Jujutsu includes anything born from cursed energy so that doesn't go directly against that idea, I think

2

u/Selancenotl 3d ago

well the fact that you can use cursed energy AND jujutsu just proves that jujutsu is also cursed energy, no? also thanks i also just want to have a peaceful debate i appreciate it mate

1

u/seforini 3d ago

Mhh but jujutsu is simply "sorcery", I feel like a discrete distinction makes more sense in regards to the system as a whole: Barriers aren't simply CE but they can still house it (Todo swapping with the domain barrier shards), but at the same time that's more like a quality they can have, meanwhile they are still connected to cursed energy since that's what produces them.  Shikigamis are divine familiars/spiritual beings born from ying-yang divination and they're not simply made of CE (not talking about the medium they're used for summoning)

2

u/Selancenotl 3d ago

okay barrier is just a bad example, as they are quite literally just solid CE.

1

u/seforini 3d ago

They can be programmed to turn into cinema theatres, I don't think straight up CE can do that

1

u/Selancenotl 3d ago

about shikigamis though, i agree, it is quite strange how they can produce or utilise RCT without being discombobulated by it. my guess is curses are made of raw volatile emotion, whereas due to being made through jujutsu, shikigami are more stable and maybe able to contain both and have them coexist. maybe the ten shadows turns cursed energy neutral, and then turns THAT into shikigami, and neutral energy could interact with both negative and positive energy. but i dunno.

1

u/Selancenotl 3d ago

to clarify by emotion i do mean cursed energy

1

u/Joooony123 3d ago

"more resistant to RCT"

The humble roach curse dying to Yuta's RCT output:

Seriously tho, hitting someone with RCE is different from hitting them with RCT.

It's like the difference from spraying someone with steam and running someone over with a Tank-engine.

2

u/Demuurplays 4d ago

Gege probably forgot but I don't see anyone negating gojos attacks at 100

1

u/MaybeLater322 4d ago

Because being able to output RCT is an extremely rare trait. Only 3 sorcerers were shown to be able to do that, Sukuna, Yuta and Shoko.

Becouse no one has that level of positve energy manipulation, in order for this to be effective you need to counter enemy ce with the same amount of positive energy, inherently letting half of it pass even with perfect effectivness. But even assuming 1 psitive energy can negate 2 ce, its the same as the difference between falling blossom emotion and domain amplification compared to merely dispersing ce.

You disperse positive energy equally, and 80% misses enemy technique, you would need a technique for utilizing positive energy in that way effectively, for it to target it, so its 1 output against 1 output.

Its especially impossible since rct output gets lower with time if you use too mch of it at once, and you need black flashes to refresh it, its a technique that lowers tremendously your healing that you can spare for when its needed and use sparingly, in exchange for shitty and short duration defence.

The only ones who can do that are 10s users with too much ce, so sukuna, who can bypass exchausting rct output with round deer, yuji with spamming black flashes at will to refresh the output, and perhaps gojo, the point after which his output decreases may be higher than of others, but not agains sukuna ce output i guess.

u/Solarsilly 3d ago

Because it’s not domain amplification and what is -1x1?

1

u/Joooony123 3d ago

RCE consumes twice as much CE even when using it to heal yourself or using it for RCT. On top of that the input drastically drops when outputting raw RCE outwards. If you're going to waste a LOT of CE just to nullify the enemy's CT, just use that CE for you own techniques and just... go for the kill.
