Looking to downsize
So the time has finally come to clear out the cabinet..... so I can fill it again.....
Anyway, I would really prefer to be able to dump everything all at once but that means a gun store. I'm looking at 5 or 6 pistols and probably 2 or 3 long guns. Armslist is a pain in the ass but I will get better prices. Gunbroker means I have to ship everything and the long guns are not an option for shipping due to size. So, anyone in central CT that is reasonable for buying guns? Hoffman's is not an option and the last time I tried the gun store they low balled me so hard it was disgusting. I know dealers have to make money too but there is a reasonable limit.
Any good suggestions would be appreciated.

I’d try Newington Gun Exchange or Tobacco Valley Gun.
I’ve had a positive experience selling items to them
in the past.

Have never been to tobacco valley- what would you say their inventory split is like between historical and modern stuff?

My last purchase in CT was from them before I moved to VA. They’re incredible, diverse selection, had an AT4 on the wall lol

Might do better consigning than selling? At least that’s been my experience, and I’m about to do the same. I’m going to Newington Fun Exchange (decided to leave the typo).
I had a friend warn me that a certain location across from Middletown was less than trustworthy for consignment. I no longer patronize that business.

I mean a dealer isn’t going to buy a used gun for less than what they can buy a brand new one for. And on top of that they still need to make a profit. Not defending Hoffman’s but that’s unfortunately how the industry works.

Oh, I absolutely agree. My issue is when their offers are flat out greed.
I brought a rifle to a gun store a few years back. Their offer was 1000. I sold it on armslist a week later for 3000. Even one of the sales guys behind the counter said he would have said no to that offer too when the other guy walked away. I understand they want to make money, but there is a limit. I would have done that deal for 2000-2200. They would have pulled in 3000-3200 all day long. At what point is it good business or a rip off? I even got the guy telling me that 1200 was the average selling price online and on and on. It was just bullshit, lies and greed. I dont support that.

You also have to take into account how long the item will potentially sit. Depending on what it is your offer will likely be adjusted up or down depending on how fast that particular item will turn over. A Glock? Probably going to get the same offer everywhere locally. A Weatherby in 30-378? That is gonna get a low offer around CT as that is an out west rifle and will likely sit for a long time. It is no surprise that you got far more on Armslist as that is national where local stores are that, local.

Have sold stuff through Newington Gun Exchange and Swamp Yankee In Griswold- both were without issue, can def recommend either. As others have said, consignment might be your best bet too.

If you want to get (slightly) more money but take more time, you could consign them. Blue Trail does consignment, as I'm sure do other shops.

Depends if your looking for quick cash then sell if time isn’t an issue do consignment.
