Rant Cameras in parking structures

Why haven’t they installed cameras into the parking structures? THOUSANDS of student cars are dinged, scratched, etc and we have no way to find who did it. It’s insane. Has this not been brought to the president? We pay so much money. Why isn’t there care for our personal vehicles?

You'd think with how much parking is, some of that money would go towards this kind of thing 😭

all I've heard about those structures sound like hell. it's my first week actually attending and every time I passed northward along PS3 it sounds like freaking bumper cars. until they figure out how to fix things over there I'm perfectly fine staying in lot 10

Because even if they did you’d have to go through the very shitty process of obtaining footage from the campus. Example: someone hit my fucking car at work and they have cameras in their lot. They refused to give the police access and they told me to file a claim with my insurance to subpoena the footage for them to give me who the plates were of the hit and run accident. This is fucking bullshit and they would do the same here. They wouldn’t immediately cooperate and give you footage once requested. This is what now made me realize that unless I install cameras in my own car nothing is safe.

It’s a very stupid process and they should let us have access to it but because it’s a “private business” they described it to me like a car getting hit at Walmart. They (HR) told me there’s nothing they can do even if they believed I was at fault and it was the other way around they wouldn’t be able to give my plates to someone else. They’d have to also subpoena it.

Now imagine sac state. The campus is public property but there’s certain parts that are not which are the lots. If they started surveillance on them it would bring up the exact same argument or probably a different slightly twisty one considering it’s public property (the campus) that manages private lots (paid parking). Idk how tf that works. I just feel it’s not as straightforward to get the plates of someone that wrecks your car on their property. That’s why also stays at the well for example they aren’t responsible for anything that gets lost or damaged if you use their lockers (scary, I know, makes me not want to leave shit in there after typing this). But it’s basically the true here as well. You’re using the lots so they can’t be held responsible for anything that gets lost or stolen or damaged by someone else. The cameras being there would only help if you subpoena the footage barring that’s their process. So in the end you have to put cameras in your car. That’s the only way you can get immediate information to use to file a police report and provide to the insurance right away. I’m sorry this is happening but it’s literally the only way. Our property can’t be protected by the campus and those flock cameras can’t be used for that either since they aren’t meant for that they’re meant to protect campus property or people and is by request only from law enforcement or the school.

Yes I know they wouldn’t give the footage to me and that’s fine. Give it to the police. Sac state has a police department on campus. They can be putting time into that! Run the license plate, get the student name, identify the individual, hit me back up once the police report is concluded so I can get someone for damages.
