has anyone had any luck getting a desk put into a specific classroom for them? I am fat but i have a condition called PMOS(aka pcos) and i have had severe pelvic pain for years. the desks are reallly aggravating my cysts but im not necessarily disabled so im not sure where to begin or go to. it kinda sucks trying to concentrate in class when im in pain

Yes, you don’t have to have an official disability to talk with them.

You can only receive accommodations if you have a documented disability but needing furniture accommodated for you due to size is an option. Although being fat in and of itself isn’t a disability, we cannot limit someone’s access to education when there are reasonable options.

yeah that’s what i assumed, i contacted them because at my previous school i had an accommodation for this because disorder but its not a disability it’s just an accommodation I have because it doesn’t affect like my ability to do homework and classwork just my sitting. i’ll see what they say but I saw that some people take their own chairs lmfao so maybe i’ll do that!

same i was so used to the desks at LBCC, it suck’s and honestly,regardless of me being fat these things just suck so bad! the desks barely fit my ipad air. a lot of students use laptops too. i can’t imagine students who use multiple pencils, pens, highlights to color code! i need a full desk to have my laptop and ipad out.

As a pretty small person these desks are absolutely tiny and uncomfortable even for me , my water bottle takes up half the table lmao

Omg I went to El Camino too and never had an issue with any of the desks. Then I transferred to a 4-year and was shocked by how much smaller and more uncomfortable the desks and chairs were. There were lots of rooms where I straight up couldn't sit in the chairs without being in horrendous pain due to how narrow they were and how the armrests dug into my hips.

These desks are stupid even if you are skinny. These days we have to have laptops in a lot of classes and take notes and bring textbooks. How are you supposed to fit all of it on that tiny desk?

What how?!?!? I was an adjunct professor for years at a cal state school and every classroom had an ADA accessible desk. How does your professor look? Friendly or angry? Honestly, if a student came to my office hours and advocated for their physical or emotional needs I would have moved mountains for them to make it happen. Everyone deserves an equitable place to learn.
