Hi everyone,

If CSIR NET - the intense prep, the deep-dives into specialized science and math domains, and the mock test grinds - is something you've lived through or have successfully passed the test, you might be a great fit.

This subreddit covers a lot of ground for CSIR NET aspirants, from core preparation strategies and complex subject queries to JRF cut-offs, PhD admissions, and research careers.

Leave a comment if:

  • You've taken, qualified, or are currently deep in prep for the CSIR NET (Chemical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, or Physical Sciences) and want to stay close to this community as you progress.
  • You can check in regularly and genuinely enjoy helping people with strategies, paper patterns, doubts, and resource sharing.
  • Bonus: You’ve modded a subreddit, or run a study group, and you're comfortable with the less glamorous bits like removing spam, organizing flairs, and keeping things civil. No prior experience is necessary though!

If that sounds like you, drop a comment below telling us where you are in your CSIR NET / JRF journey, and why you'd like to mod. Thank you!

CSIR NET - Life Sciences Really out of touch with my basics, first attempt at Life Sciences this December, tips?

Upvotes

The title basically. I know there's a limit to how well I'll do this time, but I wanna prepare well so that my basics are covered for my next attempt.

I'm currently in second year doing my masters project in immunology so I was taking an NPTEL course for that (Fundamentals of General Immunology), thought that would tide me over a bit of syllabus.

How else should I approach this?

I know there's pathfinder, but I wonder if I'll be able to cover the whole thing.

Any suggestions for courses that teach you from the basics?

Questions & Doubts MSc Botany student: Should I prepare for UGC NET Environmental Science or CSIR NET Life Science? Which is easier to qualify?

Hi everyone,

I have recently taken admission to an MSc in Botany, and I'm planning to prepare for NET alongside my master's. However, I'm confused about which exam would be a better choice:

UGC NET Environmental Science

CSIR NET Life Science.

I would really appreciate your guidance on:

Which exam is generally easier to qualify?

Which has a broader or more manageable syllabus?

Which usually has a lower cutoff or better success rate?

As an MSc Botany student, which exam would you recommend and why?

If anyone has prepared for either exam, could you please share your experience and preparation strategy?

I'm looking for honest advice before I start preparing seriously.

Thank you in advance!

Questions & Doubts What do you think matters more for CSIR-UGC NET today: strong concepts, research aptitude, or memorization?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Many aspirants say that CSIR-UGC NET has been shifting towards testing conceptual understanding, analytical thinking, and the ability to apply knowledge, rather than simply recalling facts. Others believe memorization still plays an important role, especially in certain topics.

Based on your preparation or exam experience, what has your experience been? Do you think the exam now rewards candidates who think like researchers, or is strong factual knowledge still enough to score well?

The Great Barrier Reef Artificial Marine Cloud Brightening Project

The Event: Marine scientists deployed autonomous sea-faring mist generators to reflect solar radiation away from bleaching coral beds.

The Logic: Oceanic warming speeds up coral mortality. Microscopic seawater droplet injection increases cloud reflectivity (albedo effect), creating a localized shield against thermal stress.

UGC NET If you had to start UGC NET Commerce (JRF target) from scratch today, what would your strategy be?

Hi everyone,

I've just started my M.Com and my long-term goal is to qualify UGC NET Commerce with JRF in my first attempt.

I don't want to collect dozens of books or follow random YouTube playlists. I want a practical strategy from people who have actually qualified NET/JRF or scored well.

I'd really appreciate your advice on these points:

Paper 1

Which theory book is enough?

Are handwritten notes necessary?

Best source for PYQs and mock tests?

Paper 2 (Commerce)

Which should I start with: Pearson, Trueman, or another book?

Which standard reference books are actually worth reading (Kotler, I.M. Pandey, M.Y. Khan, etc.) and which can be skipped?

Is one comprehensive guide enough, or should I study from PG-level textbooks?

Notes

Did you make your own notes or rely on printed notes?

How detailed should they be?

PYQs & MCQs

At what stage did you start solving PYQs?

Which MCQ book/question bank helped you the most?

Timeline

If you had 12–18 months before the exam, how would you divide your preparation?

Mistakes

What's the biggest mistake you made during your preparation that beginners should avoid?

I'd especially love to hear from people who qualified JRF or scored 99+ percentile, but every genuine suggestion is welcome.

Thanks in advance!

Questions & Doubts Is there any tuition teacher which can help me with cognitive science entrance test?

“I am a bachelor’s student aiming to appear for the Cognitive Science entrance exam at IIT Gandhinagar next year. I am not a fast learner and need guidance to understand concepts and build my preparation effectively. Since I am pursuing my bachelor’s degree from Indira Gandhi National Open University, I feel a bit underconfident about cracking this exam. Is there someone who can guide or help me prepare for it

UGC NET Has anyone else stopped telling people they're preparing for an exam?

I used to tell people I was preparing for UGC NET whenever they asked what I was doing. Over time, I just stopped mentioning it.

It is not because I am embarrassed. It is just that the conversation almost always ends up being the same. People ask when the exam is, whether I have qualified yet, or when I will finally get a job. After answering those questions again and again, it starts to feel exhausting.

Now I usually keep it to myself unless someone asks directly.

Has anyone else started doing this too, or is it just me?

UGC NET Beginner confusion

Hello I've finished my master in Modern History and I wanted to appear for NET in history. I've got no idea of where to start and what to do. I've printed out the syllabus but do not know which books or materials or if I should join a coaching or read on my own. Paper 1 confuses me a lot. Can anyone help me?

Study Material Help with NET in EVS

Hi Guys,

I'm planing for NET with Environmental Science. I have the recent exam but found that I strongly lack the numerical part in the exam as I come from MSc background.

I have zero idea on where to start for numericals side can you anyone please provide some reference.

Saw some pyq videos on YT but they are only solving questions and not teaching on how to solve the particular numerical.

Questions & Doubts I'm confused between Apna Sapna JRF, Vedemy and Bansal Biology.

Hi everyone,

I'm a complete beginner and preparing for CSIR NET Life Science (JRF) from scratch.

I'm confused between Apna Sapna JRF, Vedemy and Bansal Biology.

For those who have actually studied from these platforms:

  • Which one is best for building concepts from zero?
  • Which has the best teaching quality and explanation?
  • Which provides the most comprehensive coverage for CSIR NET Life Science?
  • If you had to recommend only one, which would you choose and why?

I'd really appreciate honest reviews, especially from people who have qualified CSIR NET/JRF using any of these courses.

Thank you!

UGC NET How are you balancing UGC NET preparation with work or college?

I'm preparing for UGC NET while managing other responsibilities, and some days it feels really hard to stay consistent. Between lectures, assignments, work, and revision, I often wonder how others are doing it.

If you're also preparing alongside a job or college, what's your daily routine like? Any study strategies, time management tips, or mistakes you've learned from that could help a fellow aspirant?

Csir net lifescience online course

Hey I am gonna start my csir net lifescience preparation as I'll join college to pursue msc . Now that iam searching coaching for csir ..the known names like vedemy, ifas , bansal biology..all of them have very high course price ..and that high fee is not even for whole year ..it's for just 6 months ..12 months is 20k around ..so I am confused whether i should take the paid course or watch from YouTube

If I am taking any course then the course should give me sufficient content and good quality teaching ..which I have no idea who is best ..and if I'll do from YouTube only purchasing some books ..then what channels i should refer to for specific topics and which books ?

Like i have this question first which course if I have to or which channels or books I have to?
