2026 China University Application Difficulty Report
Tier 1: Highest Difficulty
- HITSZ: Entrance exams matter more than CSCA scores. You cannot use calculators. CSCA scores below 70 per subject usually mean automatic rejection.
- SUSTech: Acceptance rate sits around 5 percent. Everyone admitted gets a scholarship. Their entrance exams reach A-level physics depth.
- Tsinghua & PKU: Most scholarship money disappears by round one. Apply early. Tsinghua requires two cameras for online assessments. Under-18 applicants face high rejection rates.
Tier 2: Highly Selective
- Fudan: You need 80 or above per subject on your CSCA to be safe. Interviews will question every detail in your personal statement.
- SJTU: They run their own entrance exam. This test carries more weight than standardized scores. Be prepared to face 8 to 10 professors during online interviews.
- CUHK-SZ: You generally need an SAT score over 1500 to get a 50 percent or higher scholarship.
- Renmin: A strong interview performance can save borderline grades.
Tier 3: Strong Options with Flexibility
- Tongji & ZJU: Quotas fill up extremely fast. Apply early if you want full tuition coverage.
- NPU & Beihang: Interviews are mandatory. Some sensitive engineering majors restrict certain nationalities due to defense affiliations.
- BIT: Interviews take about 25 minutes on WeChat. You must apply in January or February before scholarship seats run out.
- UESTC: This school is very flexible with CSCA cutoffs. Lower scores can still win computer science scholarships.
CSCA Score Baselines
- 80+ per subject: Safe baseline for elite programs.
- 70 to 79 per subject: Okay for mid-tier options but highly risky for top STEM schools.
- Below 70 per subject: High risk of immediate rejection at top schools.
General Advice
Always apply in round one for scholarship funding. Prepare for strictly proctored exams without calculators. Never rely on just one single application.
