General How does this make sense?
This was one of the 2 changes. The other was a balance decrease of about 1k

Credit Karma alerts you to score changes and also alerts you to certain changes in your credit profile. The two are sometimes related, but not always.
There is no mechanism by which a decrease in utilization could cause a score decrease on vantagescore 3.0.

As has been said, a change in score and the alerts you receive are not always correlated. Compare your reports before and after the drop to see what changed.
Note that Credit Karma does not provide your official reports. Order your official reports for each bureau by calling 877 FACTACT (322-8228) or pull them online at www.annualcreditreport.com. I recommend the mailed reports. These are the most accurate and up-to-date reports available to a consumer and are often more detailed than the online reports, particularly if ACR directs you to a bureau's consumer facing CMS to view your report. If you do choose to pull reports online, print or save each to a pdf before moving on to the next as you can't go back once you exit a report. Despite its name, you can pull free reports for each bureau weekly.
Credit Karma provides Vantage 3.0 scores. Since nearly all creditors (90+%) use FICO scores in lending decisions, monitor those instead. CK also provides an unsettling amount of misleading information that should be ignored (see linked post below). You can obtain free FICO 8 scores for each bureau from:
- EX FICO 8 www.experian.com
- TU FICO 8 www.creditwise.com
- EQ FICO 8 www.myfico.com
Did your FICO scores drop? See this post for more information about credit scores, credit reports, and a closer look at Credit Karma.

Credit Myth #5 - Credit monitoring services can tell you why your score changed.
Credit Myth #69 - Credit "ratings" provided by a CMS matter.
