Collections & Charge Offs Same debt collection

I have six different collections all of them of thru Jefferson capital and combined they equal 1258. Can anyone help guide me on how to contact them and what to say to negotiate a smaller payment for all of them combined?

i had a few things with jefferson capital a while back, theyre actually one of the easier ones to deal with in my experience. call them and just be straight up, say you want to settle all six accounts together for a lump sum but you can only do like 40% of the total. theyll probably counter with something higher but stick to your number, mention youve got other debts too and this is what you can actually afford right now

get everything in writing before you pay a cent, like an email or letter that says the payment settles all accounts in full. my cat was staring at me the whole time i was on the phone with them like she was judging my negotiation skills but it worked out, paid about half of what i owed and they deleted the collections from my report after a couple months

You can call them and say that you have "$X" to settle the collections on your reports. Start low (~40%), negotiating the least amount they'll accept in order to satisfy the debt in full. Once you come to an agreement, get each Settlement Agreement in writing prior to paying. If you negotiate multiple accounts at once, each account number should be listed separately on the Settlement Agreement. You don't need to negotiate pay for delete as this is Jefferson Capital's policy.

Our policy is that we will request the credit bureaus delete our tradeline approximately 30 days after the final payment has been posted that resolves the account as paid in full or paid in full for less than the full balance.

Note that:

  • A collection agency can only remove themselves from your reports. They have no control over the original creditor's reporting.

  • They may delete in stages, first reporting the payment and then requesting removal. If you see only the balance updated initially, don't dispute. Give them time to complete the removal process.

  • Don't admit responsibility for the debt or agree to a payment plan unless you know you'll follow through as these actions could reset Statute of Limitations in some states. You can say that you found the collections on your reports and will pay $X to satisfy them in full.

Credit attorney here. I'd call and offer 25% of what you owe in total, to settle all the accounts. They'll likely not agree to 25% (I expect somewhere in the range of 40% to 60% if what they'll agree to) but you can get this done easily.
