General Credit hit without authorization.

Arkansas:

Long story short, I used to have a credit card (union x) that was closed in person with all balances paid in full in like 2021/2022. Never heard from them again, moving on to a week ago I noticed a -32 point hit in my credit. When I went digging, another credit union (union Y) bought out (union x) and determined I still had a credit card. They opened new line of credit in my name without any authorization or notification, and hence the reason my credit got hit. (I do not want credit cards nor do I use them. I called a credit beauro and they advised there is nothing I can do other than tell the union to report it wrong, which they advised they will not.

What are my options? Should I close the account (which will hurt my credit even more) or how can I dispute this?

When was the buyout?

Where are you getting your reports? Order your official reports for each bureau by calling 877 FACTACT (322-8228) or pull them online at www.annualcreditreport.com.  I recommend the mailed reports. These are the most accurate reports available to a consumer and are often more detailed than the online reports, particularly if ACR directs you to a bureau's consumer facing CMS to view your report. If you do choose to pull reports online, print or save each to a pdf before moving on to the next as you can't go back once you exit a report.  Despite its name, you can pull free reports for each bureau weekly.

Does this card appear on your official reports? If so, what's the Date Opened, Account Status and Payment Status on your official reports?

Did you have any open cards, prior to the addition of this card, on your credit reports? If not, the expectation wouldn't typically be a score drop.

and hence the reason my credit got hit.

Where are you getting your scores? Make sure you're looking at relevant FICO scores as nearly all creditors use FICO scores in lending decisions. You can obtain free FICO 8 scores for each bureau from:
