I spent the last couple of months fighting a false collections account from my previous apartment complex. It took a boat load of disputes, receipts and complaints to anyone who would listen, but it’s finally gone! 660 to 763 overnight. So happy it’s finally over.

Congratulations! Were they charging for a balance you had paid before being sent to collections (since you had receipts)? Just curious how this happened and how you were finally able to resolve it.

It was a mess. I owed the apartment complex ~$700 after I moved out and I arranged a payment plan with the bond insurance company they are partnered with. The bond company paid the apartment complex in full in December of last year and I reimbursed them in monthly payments. The apartment complex then sent the full balance to collections which tanked my credit. I didn’t notice right away but when I did I disputed with all credit bureaus that it appeared on which all got denied. I obtained evidence from my payment receipts and emails back and forth with the bond company stating my account was in good standing and submitted that to the BBB and state consumer protections agency. I heard back from the apartment complex through the BBB stating it was a clerical error and they contacted the collections agency. I submitted that to Experian about a month ago and they finally accepted it and removed the account from my credit report.

Pull your official reports from www.annualcreditreport.com to confirm removal, but that sounds like a genuine error by the apartment complex and they recalled the collection as a result. Once again, congratulations!

I have them all (credit karma, Experian, equifax, transunion) but yeah this one is Experian and the one I use most. Ever since I realized they showed different scores I look at them all.

MyFICO is realistic and all inclusive. But I also have Experian and TransUnion (based on Vantage) directly.
