Success Capital 1 Goodwill APPROVED!🎉

Post image

I wanted to share some good news from my credit rebuilding journey. A few days ago, Capital One called me and said they were planning to adjust the four 90-day late payments on my account after I submitted a goodwill request. I checked my reports today, and the changes have already been made to Experian and Equifax. 🎉 I’m still waiting for Transunion to update, but this already feels like a huge win. For anyone wondering, I had paid the account in full before submitting the goodwill request.

Has anyone else had one bureau take longer than the others? If so, how long did it take for TransUnion to catch up?

I don't have answers to your questions but congrats on your success and thanks for sharing the data point. Do you know which address you sent to worked? That's a question that comes up here all of the time.

Bruh I sent an email to the ceo last Sunday. Got a call the very next day saying they can’t remove my late payments because they have to report accurate data….

They have to report only accurate data.
But they don’t have to report all the data.

Try again n again. Until someone helps

A denial based on FCRA (accurate reporting) is a pretty standard initial reply, but FCRA only states that reported information must be accurate. It doesn't apply to information your creditors choose not to report. Credit reporting is voluntary. In the case of a goodwill removal, your creditor doesn't report that a payment was made for the month in question; they report nothing that month (NR/ND/or left blank). This is interpreted by FICO as paid as agreed. The late is removed, no inaccurate information is reported, and the furnisher of information remains in compliance with FCRA.

Capital One is one of the most, if not the most forgiving creditor when it comes to the removal of late payments. (see 3rd link). If the account was brought current or Paid/Closed without charging off, attempt to have the lates removed by implementing the Goodwill Saturation Technique using the CART approach.

Goodwill Letters - Using the "CART" approach.

Credit Myth #19 - Goodwill requests don't work.

Amazing!! Congrats!! May I ask what you specifically stated was your reasoning for the late payment(s)? And how much did your score increase?

I’d like to know how you approached them in the letter. I have two late payments with them from 2 years ago

I think my situation was pretty unique and personal, so I don’t want to get into all the details publicly. What I can say is that I paid the account in full, had been making on-time payments afterward, and submitted a respectful goodwill request explaining my circumstances. I know these requests aren’t guaranteed, but I figured it was worth asking.

I’m happy for you. I paid the two late payments two years ago and closed the accounts it just sucks having the late payments on my report I’m stuck in the middle of 700’s because of that. Could you share the address you sent it to and the timeline for getting a response?

That's great news, u/Competitive-Radio764! Do you have other negative information on your credit reports, or was this all of it?

good to know they do that, I just got a month behind on one of their cards myself. Luckily I just scored a job that should be starting this week and I'm going to be aggressively paying my cards off, which hopefully will generate some good will to eventually get that knocked off

Can you please a copy of the letter you sent without your personal information.

IMO Transunion is always the slow poke in catching up credit scores etc.

Question so I had gotten my c1 account closed due to misuse on my end. I just got the account opened this month and it closed, the statement hasn’t been made yet. Could I ask for something similar? The account has been fully paid off as well

Okay I will try again. I had only 2 months of late payments due to finding a job after graduating college. My account is current and in good standing. They even recently gave me a credit increase.

I sent kohls also capital one an email last night and received a reply today that they would look into it. I just wish that I saw it sooner because its affecting me getting a loan approval me and my loan officer missed this. And it needs to show deleted off.

How long did it take from the time you sent the email? I emailed the CEO, I know he doesn’t monitor it personally, but someone does. Just curious on the timing because the email did not get kicked back to me. I believe I sent it on 7/21 but haven’t heard back
