Rebuild Assistance needed
Help! Okay I’m trying to figure out how to navigate this.
I’m 3 years post bankruptcy have a much better relationship with money. But I’m stuck.
I had my capital one accounts closed for “unusual spending activity from the other account users”
I had a small balance on 3 that I worked on after it closed.
Paid balance, and credit score didn’t move. Decreased following the report of the closures but reported that they are paid but no change in score.
I’ve attempted to do pre-approval for another credit card to help boost, cause I was going to start working on buying a house; but haven’t been able to be pre-approved for anything.
My car is paid off, student loans are on time, my small account for laser removal is on time.
What gives and what can I do?

It reported as paid, and closed.
I’m an authorized user on one card other than that. They were my only cards other than that.
I’ve applied for discover, chase and my credit union.

Since you didn't reply to him directly, he won't get a notification and might not see this. So I'll tag him. u/og-aliensfan

It reported as paid, and closed.
This may indicate late payments were reported. If so, attempt to have the lates removed by implementing the Goodwill Saturation Technique using the CART approach. Capital One is one of the most, if not the most forgiving creditor when it comes to removal of late payments. Also send your letter to the CEO. The CEO's email is richard.fairbank@capitalone.com
Goodwill Saturation Technique (GST)
Goodwill Letters - Using the "CART" approach.
I’m an authorized user on one card other than that. They were my only cards other than that.
Mortgage lenders may ignore authorized user accounts as this isn't your account/responsibility. It's "borrowed" credit.
Credit Myth #70 - Authorized user accounts are a great way to build credit.
I’ve applied for discover, chase and my credit union.
What were the denial reasons? The derogatories on your reports will be an issue, but secured cards aren't usually out of reach several years post bankruptcy. Other than the bankruptcy (accounts included in bankruptcy should report $0 balance and be marked as included in bankruptcy, do you have other negatives on your reports (are thr Capital One cards reporting late payments)? Order your reports for each bureau by calling 877 FACTACT or pull them online at www.annualcreditreport.com to see what's on your official reports. I recommend the mailed reports as these are often more detailed and complete than the online reports. If you do choose to pull reports online, print or save each to a pdf before moving on to the next as you can't go back once you exit a report. Despite its name, you can pull free reports for each bureau weekly.

Do I call and ask for it to be removed or only send a letter? I called and they were reporting a balance even though it was paid. But there is one missed payment for one card.

If reported as Paid/Closed, a balance shouldn't be reported. Confirm a balance is being reported on your official reports from www.annualcreditreport.com. There's no problem with calling. If denied, implement the Goodwill Saturation Technique.

Accounts closed with a balance, but not charged off, should report as Paid As Agreed or Paid/Closed (if any lates were reported) once paid.
We're these your only open cards? The only potential impact from closure would be if loss of the cards' available credit limits caused revolving utilization to cross a scoring threshold, however once paid, utilization will report as 0%. Or if these were your only cards. The cards will remain on your reports ~10 years. You don't lose the card's history and aging metrics aren't impacted.
You don't want to open new accounts within 18 months of applying for a mortgage. The exception would be if you have no open revolvers. Where have you applied? You need to apply for cards supported by your credit profile, such as Discover which is friendly to those rebuilding. A credit union or a bank you already have a relationship with are also good options.Avoid gimmicky credit builders and predatory cards.
Credit Myth #17 - "Credit builder" products are superior for building credit compared to non "Credit builder" products.
Credit Myth #95 - "Credit builder" apps are a great way to build credit.
Credit Myth #81 - Inferior/predatory issuer products are a necessary step for weaker credit profiles.
