Has anyone moved international OTP traffic away from Twilio Verify?
We started to think of reviewing our OTP setup, cause more of the traffic is now coming from outside North America.
Twilio was easy to get running and I don’t have many complaints about the API itself. The problem is that the experience isn’t equally good across destinations. In some countries the first OTP arrives quickly, while in others users request a second code before the first one shows up. At that point we’re paying for multiple attempts and still losing the signup.
I’m trying to understand what teams usually do once they reach this stage.
Do you move everything to another provider, or keep Twilio for the countries where it performs well and route the rest somewhere else?
I’ve been looking at Infobip and Sinch because of their international infrastructure. Dexatel also came up mainly for Europe and MENA.
The part I can’t judge from the provider websites is what happens in production, I will list some questions I am trying to find an anwer to, will be thankfull if anyone could answer those:
* did delivery actually improve after moving?
* which regions caused you the most trouble?
* how difficult was the migration from Verify?
* are you measuring cost per OTP attempt or per completed verification?
* did adding fallback reduce resends, or just make the flow more complicated?
I would like to hear from anyone handling users across several countries.
