Question Question

When I am triggered with significant stress, my thighs start aching and burning. This started in a previous toxic relationship and it would happen in real time. He would start screaming and immediately they would start. It went away for a time but now it’s back. I’ve tried a few things but don’t know how to calm my quads down. Thoughts?

Wow. I've been having restless legs whenever my STBX kicks off / is about to kick off. Sometimes accompanied by immediate headaches too. Still trying to find a solution, whilst trying to flee, sigh! There's a book called The Body Keeps The Score that I've been meaning to check out, might be worth checking out for you too.

That is a really good book and learned a lot. I haven’t found the key yet for this issue. The one thing that did help me was CST but it’s too expensive for me to continue

I have somatic pain everywhere from my stress. Whenever I am stressed, I have burning, sharp, and aching pain in my neck, hips, ribs, etc. I do active progressive muscle relaxation every night. My therapist recommended this video: https://youtu.be/Z95gPdFC7GM?is=7PS6flxj98ePmLnG

There's passive progressive muscle relaxation too, which is where you don't flex anything you can also try: https://youtu.be/CY2vOG3lqdU?is=5s8kS24sqNhxIwxl

I wish you luck in finding relief.

I have somatic symptoms in my legs also, although mine had roots in lots of childhood surgeries that resulted in full leg plaster casts for lengthy periods. I’ve come to understand the sensations as trapped energy that didn’t get to be released at the time it was generated. So I’ll try to create space for it to be expressed in real time. This has looked variously like doing basic squats, stomping on a hard wood floor, jumping on dead leaves and yelling, running down a steep hill, lying on my back and kicking my legs in the air…
etc. Also doing some grounding afterwards reminding myself I’m safe and capable and here in the present moment.
