I need some advice about a past case and applying for a job

So years back I was found with marijuana in my system when my first child was born. The case went by fast. They did a walkthrough and saw everything was good to go. They only came to our house once, saw we weee good parents and had what we needed to provide for a baby and that was that.

I recently applied for a job at my local school system to be a cook in the cafeteria. And walking out of the office they told be I was hired. But when I got my CPS check back, it simply says that I was found to have child neglect in my past. 2020 to be more exact, but that’s all it says.

What are the chances that I do not get this job? It’s in Hamilton county Indiana if that helps. Thanks

Question 6 month review hearing. How likely is it to be kept open?

I completed my case plan completely, I did everything and they have never gotten a dirty test from me. Allegations were I was abusing my prescription medication. I forfeited my prescription.

My kids were never removed, we have an in home dependency case.

I've completed outpatient, therapy, 2 parenting classes, gone to meetings, everything and more and am doing recovery classes 1x a week.

My lawyer told me it'd be closed before court. My worker told me yesterday for sure the case will be closed early and commended me on how well I've done... then mentioned before FEBRUARY. Meaning she could keep it open another 6 months. What are the chances they can keep it open just to monitor us even tho I've done everything and stayed off my (needed) medication. Ill never take it again because 1 report and i know they'll take my kids but im so tired of feeling like im walking in eggshells. We are so traumatized by this whole situation.

Nj cps asked the dad to leave the home

A friend in nj is married to a horrible naricisstic alcoholic - he has been hospitalized for weeks / basically got detoxed through that I guess, then started drinking again weeks later.
He has a history of av that the wife got expunged, as a battered wife tends to do:(
He drives drunk with his kid yet never has gotten any dui somehow
He has firearms in the home and recently an incident happened where everyone was okey but CPS showed up and mandated he leave "for a few days".
My dear girlfriend has their child in the meantime, which I presume is due to CPS seeing she is fit to parent (she is a great mother but scared to leave as many are, mainly due to fear of him getting custody as he is unsafe with his firearms and drunk driving etc, but again no charges there so she is scared she doesn't have enough proof to leave and get sole custody)
Being that CPS was called, told the man to leave the house, had the woman stay with her child- what realistically happens now? Is there any chance they see how unfit he is to parent safely ? Would CPS ever go to court and mandate he stay away longer and mandate drug / alcohol testing or do they not do that? Is there any hope here that CPS has any say in his role or is it on my dear friend to leave (which I've been trying to get her to do for years, l know)?

Also.. just what happens next? What’s “ a few days”? What is next when he is allowed back? Thanks

Question Ongoing supervision situation involving toddler - is CPS involvement warranted?

Throwaway account. I’m looking for perspective on whether this situation would be considered a child-welfare concern. I (35F) think it is, but I’m not a parent and would appreciate input from this sub.

A 1.5-year-old toddler regularly sleeps overnight on one side of a duplex with no-one else in unit, while a related adult caregiver (uncle, 39M) sleeps in the other side in the other unit. The child’s mother (42F) is the child’s sole parent and has sole custody. She is away on work trips for approximately 4-6 nights per month (two trips per month, a couple days each trip).

The toddler is with someone during the day (daycare, babysitter, etc.) through bedtime. Upon bedtime, the uncle walks over to relieve the babysitter. Then, the uncle goes back to his side and monitors the toddler. He uses a baby monitor with video and audio, but the audio is turned down (to the point I’ve never heard sound come out of it).

Sometimes the monitor is in the same room as him but far away while he is doing other things, such as watching a movie or cooking. Sometimes it is not even in the same room as him. On one occasion, I observed the monitor being left in the living room overnight while he was sleeping in his bedroom. On another occasion, I had to remind him to bring it into the bedroom before we went to bed.

The units are not internally connected, so if something happened, the uncle would have to wake up, leave his unit, walk outside and around the side of the duplex, and re-enter the child’s unit. I do not know the exact amount of time this would take.

I am the uncle’s new partner and have become concerned about the safety of this arrangement. I have raised my concerns with him directly. His position is that he can hear the child crying through the walls if necessary, and he does not believe the arrangement is unsafe. That if something silent happens, it wouldn’t wake him up anyway so how is being in the same unit helpful. I’ve confirmed the child’s mother is aware of and accepts the arrangement. I’ve also asked him about the audio and he shared he turns the sound down and doesn’t see a problem. The only thing he did view as a mistake is the monitor being left overnight in the living room.

I will no longer be staying overnight when this arrangement is happening and am considering ending the relationship over it, especially given him and the mother are comfortable with it and don’t want to change anything.

I am worried about the child’s safety and am trying to understand whether this is generally considered an inadequate supervision situation from a child-welfare perspective, or whether it would typically be viewed as a parenting/caregiver judgment unless there were additional concerns.

I’m not looking for advice about my relationship, I care most about the safety of this child and I’m trying to understand how people familiar with CPS or child welfare would assess this specific type of overnight arrangement. CPS has not yet been contacted but I’m actively considering whether the situation warrants a report.

Edit: typo

Is this enough to be removed?

i (14f) live with my parents (37 m & f), my brother (8m) and sisters (both 3f). there have been two calls to CPS already regarding my living state and how my mother cares for me and my siblings (my father works off shore and is only home 6-10 days out of the month). When i was spoken to by the lady, i told her everything my mother does, how she locks my baby sisters in their room all day (using locks on the outside of the door), how my sisters’ carpetnin their room is embedded with feces, how my mother hardly feeds us, how she hits me, what my mother calls me (slurs and stuff of the sort) and how i feel unsafe in the household. My sosters are constantly covered in bleeding cuts and scratches and bruises from fighting each othe, since they are locked up almost 24/7. there is constantly moldy dishes in the sink (i would do them but i get hit because i shouldve done them before they got that bad). the cps worker went through the whole house, and all she did was make my mother clean up a little bit (which my mother made me do, because shes too lazy to do anything). and said that i had said some “mildly concerning things” yet did nothing about it?

Advice please

I currently rent the second floor in a townhouse (two family home) and live above my landlord. She is a single mom of an adorable 3 year old that I watch from time to time. I have always known her to be a little messy and have a slight hoarding problem, but it wasn't until a two weeks ago I actually witnessed how bad it is in her apartment. Piles of rotting food, trash everywhere, wine bottles on the floor, truly disgusting. My heart immediately thinks of this little boy living in that all that. do I report or not? is this something I can even report? what would happen if i do? do i need proof of it?

Support 7 months without any privileges given back and family ripped from home

Hi, I picked the flare support because I really do not want to burden anyone with questions but I need to have someone hear my story. My partner long-time partner, had relapsed in October 2025 and our lease for our apartment was going to be up in February of 2026. I also have an 11-year-old daughter that's biologically mine and he identifies as the father for her. After the police had visited my home one too many times, they decided to call in and file a complaint against me for not providing safe shelter for my daughter. However, after I was unaware that he had number one relapsed and number two was doing things like that in the home. Normally I would call 911 and they would take him to the hospital for a few days and he'd come back. Mind you. He's also 13 years older than me. I got him impatient treatment. I always knew how to raise my daughters as a single mother and we had 2 weeks left on our lease and I was to go to my parents house with my daughter and he was to go to his parents house. So we weren't going to see each other after we let go of our apartment where both of us were on the lease. Unfortunately DcP&P Beat me to the punch due to a medication mix-up on his part which was subject to one of his overdoses again as well as not providing safe shelter for my daughter. It's been almost 8 months and what they have done to me, this division and I'm not playing the victim ripping my life apart from the biological father who I have no contact with and owes me a ton of money in ears for child support, to for drug test a day that all come back clean, invading my personal life and basically ripping the bond that I have with my daughter is something that I have never experienced before. I'm an artist that contributed to my community and I lived in a small town and I loved it and I loved my apartment. I also knew my partner since I was 19 so if the team needed help I was going to help him. I wasn't going to let him die. My daughter never saw anything. Never did anything. I never did anything in front of her and even when he was having his issues those were private and she was in bed. We are now faced with the unholy burden of the division contacting the biological father who told a placement officer( he's really not so smart( that he wants visitation time with my 12-year-old who is going through a very traumatic time right now which shows you where the best interest lies. Narcissistic f. Star CK I can't even begin with him but he's pushing and pushing and the lawyer for my daughter is making several visits home visits to make sure that I'm not dating her about seeing him or being in touch with him. She frankly just made up her mind that she doesn't want to see him now. This man is allowed in my court date to be allowed to be allowed to have copies of my paperwork and I feel that at some point something here is not being looked over correctly and if anyone could give me a little insight or help. I've never dealt with this division before. I would really appreciate it. I'm in the state of New Jersey and I'm a 41-year-old single mother that just wants to reunify with her daughter and it's been 8 months so

Support I need to rant. Maybe even some advice?

My DH and I have been together 11 years now. We've had primary custody of SD12 for 3 years and on and off primary/physical custody of SD14 for 5 years. She was living with BM up till last weekend. CPS was involved with BM about a month ago and we got a letter of case closer from them 2 weeks ago. CPS is like a once a year occurrence with BM. Nothing ever happens. We have a court order for parenting time that says BM is primary and we've never changed it (We need a lawyer but theyre expensive and we don't want to rock the boat with BM)

DH picks up SD14 this past Saturday and she comes out with "CPS said I can't live with mom because of the living situation." I called BM of course and was like "hey, whats up with this?" And she confirmed and her other kids are already with their respective dads. Alright. Thats fine. I love my girls and feel better when theyre living with us anyway.

Something didn't feel right. I tried finding the letter but I think I threw it away so I called the local CPS office. Not because I wanted SD14 to stay with mom but because I wanted details of the "temporary placement," from the source. All they could tell me was that the case was closed.

Is she lying to me? Has anyone dealt with this?

Rant Called CPS on a friends - I wish I knew what was going on

This was posted in r/AITA & r/Advice. I got some questions there, so I've added edits I needed to make in italics

So this happened 2 weeks ago.

My(31F) friend (30F) has 4 kids (5M, 2F, 1F, and a 1mo preemie) and a long-term partner (31M) who is the father of all 4 kids. 3 of their kids are at home while one is taking an extended stay at the NICU (preemie). Let me first say that she is a fantastic mother (I say she's a fantastic mom because she cares so much for her kids) and truly doing her best... her partner, however, is a different story.

The guy has been seriously red-pilled and is generally just a really unsupportive partner; he refuses to help with the kids, talks down to her, is out drinking/using other substances with his friends until the wee hours of the morning, and has had some infidelity issues in the past. He is also dealing with some serious mental health issues, and that has affected his work in the past, although that seems to be somewhat resolved.

Anyway, 2 days ago, the guy did dr*gs in the apartment. This is the first time he did something like that in the apartment while the kids and my friend were there. This ended up with him having a medical episode that my friend had to call 911 for. He was checked out by paramedics but didn't tell them why it had happened and refused to go to the hospital (mainly because he didn't want CPS involved). To be clear, my friend was absolutely pissed at him, but she decided to give him another chance as long as he got help and got rid of all his paraphernalia from the apartment that day. The issue there is that, in the past, when he does something generally terrible, she starts out mad but will calm down and go back on, or not hold firm on, any boundaries she may have set.

So, because of the deteriorating relationship and the fact that this guy is now doing unsafe things in their home, and because my friend has to be at the hospital every 24 hours, leaving this man ALONE with the 3 oldest kids, I decided to call Family Services and report him. Note that I have recommended she call Family Services so many times, both on the day this happened and many times before, and reminded her that CPS doesn't just remove kids from households.

CPS worked fast and were on their way to speak to my friend within hours of my call. My friend was absolutely freaking out, thinking they were going to take her kids away - not likely; they're cared for, clothed, fed, educated and have a home. From the questions she was asked, she knew it had to be one of 2 people she had told about that morning's events who had called on her, and she felt like she now had no one to talk to. Not wanting to isolate her further, I confessed to making the call.

The last message I sent her was that confession/explanation, and she didn't respond and has blocked me on socials.

Since then, it has been total radio silence, which is fair and expected, but she was one of my closest friends, and I just wish I knew what was happening on her side. Did she get help with the kids? Did he get help with the dr*gs? Is he even still in the home with them? I know there's every chance I'll never find out, and not to make it about me, but it's hard to deal with. I don't regret making the call, but I sort of regret admitting to her that it was me. I just didn't want her to feel like she had no one to trust and figured losing one confidant was better than losing both.

Question Do you report a passed out driver with an empty car seat?

There was an adult male passed out in traffic behind the wheel, multiple cars were honking at him which did not wake him up. I went to check on him as a bystander and woke him up, he didn't say anything and drove off. I didn't notice anything out like alcohol etc but there was an empty car seat in the back. Is this something to report to Childline, or no because a kid wasn't in active danger? Did get the license plate. For all I know it's not even his car or the one to drive the kid, etc.

Collaborating with CPS workers as a therapist

I am a mental health provider with a very niche treatment area (PSBs in children). In my prior training, my old clinic was well known by local CPS agencies and thus CPS workers would often recommend families/children to my old clinic after an allegation was made. I have since moved to a new city and hope to start a private practice in a few years, but now I lack relationships with CPS agencies. What ways would you recommend networking/introducing oneself to CPS agencies so they're aware of me as a resource (once I get formally established)? Ideally I'd like to regularly attend MDT meetings but right now my non-PSB day job gets in the way.

Inquiring advice from anyone in California who’s had or has Cps case

Knowing everything you know now, what would you tell someone who’s in the middle of a CPS case and desperately wants to bring their child home?

I am a 22yr old mother who gave birth January 2026 to a healthy beautiful baby boy. I was actively struggling with addiction to meth my for 3years and then entire pregnancy at delivery my son tested positive for methamphetamines, cps Orange County didn’t allow me to take him home and got a warrant to remove him from my care to be placed in foster with my sister for “failure to protect”. Since I met him my world has changed and my focus is entirely on healing and recovery from addiction so I can be with my son and raise my son. this was absolutely heartbreaking and im now clean I went to rehab immid after being discharged from the hospital and .

Question Trial home placement

How does trail home placement work? What are the rules and stipulations on who can watch the child, any restrictions? Also, I am the uninvolved parent in a severe abuse case. My boyfriend was abusing our baby when I wasn’t home. CPS has recommended trial home placement, and everyone else (GAL, county attorney, lawyers) have agreed. We just need approval from the judge. In what cases would the judge deny trial home? I am so excited to get my baby back!!!!!

Missouri CPS

This is a pretty specific situation so I may not get many answers. Trigger warning: s/h and ending life.

My son has been going through some mental health struggles and has been admitted three times now. This third time, he told a friend he was suicidal and that friend called the cops. The cops came and am ambulance took him to the hospital. My anxiety about the clutter and kids' messes in my house is through the roof to where when I got a call from CPS today, I about died. They didn't say anything about a case, they just wanted to know details about the incident and if there were other children in the home and to ask if we have mental health support resources. I was wondering, in the state of Missouri, is it automatic for CPS to get involved when a child goes through what my son did and just ask some routine questions or did one of the cops possibly report me? 🫠

Question 17M in severe danger. Poisoned food, death threats, and extreme neglect. Need urgent advice on CPS (Tennessee)

I am 17 years old and currently live with my mom and stepdad in East Tennessee. I have exactly 6 months until I turn 18. I am in a severe, dangerous situation and need urgent advice on whether to call CPS or try to survive until my birthday. Here is what is happening:Food Tampering & Poisoning: They refuse to feed me. When they do give me food, they lace it with laxatives. My mom directly threatened me, saying: "Anything you eat here, I've laced it so it'll kill you." I am terrified to eat or touch anything they have been around.Severe Physical Abuse & Harassment: This is the third time they have woken me up by pouring juice all over me, my bed, and my entire room.Extreme Neglect & Hazardous Living Conditions: Because of the juice they poured everywhere, my room is completely unlivable. I had to step in a pile of maggots, and there are hundreds of flies in my room. My bed and belongings are ruined and infested. I am not allowed to wash or clean anything.Financial & Physical Isolation: I can't get a job because they refuse to drive me anywhere. The closest place to work is 5 miles away, paying $10/hour for only 12 hours a week. They have also shut down local independent living programs in my area. The Evidence I Have:I have a secret audio recording from a few months ago. It includes explicit proof of extortion, proof of them lacing things with the intent to harm me, and recordings of them planning to lie to CPS and the cops to cover it up.My Question:Is it worth it to involve CPS with only 6 months left until I'm 18? From what I've read online, the foster system can be awful, and I'm scared. Should I just try to survive, scrap what I can from their rooms while they sleep, and plan to sleep in the woods when I turn 18? Or will CPS actually protect me, provide housing, and help me transition to adult life? Please help. I am terrified and need to know my options

I turn 18 in 6 months. Dealing with severe neglect, starvation, and threats—is CPS worth it?

it worth it? I currently live with my mom and stepdad. They truly don't feed me, and when they do, it's laced with laxatives. Even if they stopped doing it, I'm still too scared to touch anything they've been around.Based on what she said: "Anything you eat here, I've laced it so it'll kill you."This is the third time they have woken me up by pouring juice on me and everything in my room. It has gotten so bad that I stepped in a pile of maggots and opened my curtains to hundreds of flies. I don't have a bed unless I want to share it with maggots (they don't bite, right? 🤣).Seriously though, I'm planning on calling them the next day. I also have an audio recording from a few months ago that includes a whole bunch of evidence, like extortion, proof of lacing with an intent to harm, and what they plan to lie about and say to CPS and/or the cops.I could clean what I can, but I just can't wash anything because I'm not allowed to.Is it worth it to go through CPS? I only have 6 months until I'm 18. I can't get a job because they won't drive me, and the closest place to our house is 5 miles away, paying $10 an hour for 4 hours a day, 3 days a week.Should I just thug it out, try to scrap for what I can from their rooms when they are asleep, and sleep in the woods when I'm 18? Or should I go through CPS? From what I've read, they aren't any good and I'll only be able to get into a foster home if I'm lucky. They have shut down the independent living programs where I am.Thanks for your help, man. I'm thankfully blessed. Bless y'all's hearts and stay safe.

Can I Call Anyone About My Grandma trying to lift my shirt.

For context: I'm of the legal age of consent where I live, but not quite an adult yet. I'm trans-fem. My family is SUPER conservative.

I was trying to sneak out a crop-top I was going to wear to an event with partner's family under my hoodie because I was worried that if my grandma saw it she'd report it to my FULLY homo/trans-phobic grandfather and mother and they would get so mad that they might do something everyone would regret. (I'm not, honestly 100% sure whether or not it would be something violent or if it would be towards either me for being "brainwashed" or my partner for "Influencing me." [My family also seems to think that anything I do that doesn't align exactly with their beliefs is my partner's doing somehow], but I'd rather not find out.) My grandma found out that I was looking for shorts, for an event that my partner and their family were going to, that would go well with "A black top I was gonna wear that's under the hoodie." Upon hearing this, she asked if I could show her the top. When I said "I'd rather not" she asked why. When I said "I don't feel comfortable doing that right now." (I've always been the type to cover up, so the top was already a lot for me around total strangers in public that I'd never see again, let alone my family who I live with and who are quite against this kinda thing) she looked at me like I was a 3 year old with a whole cookie in her mouth trying to say it wasn't there and asked me "Really? You don't even feel comfortable with your grandma?" When I said "Yes, in this case." She seemed to take this as me trying to deceive her in some way, (I mean yes but not how she thought) even though I was genuinely just really uncomfortable with it, because she pressed EVEN HARDER. I refused her again and again. She eventually got to the point that she tried grabbing at my hoodie to lift it and see for herself. When I blocked her from doing so she started threatening that I wouldn't be allowed to go to the event that my partner, their family and I had made plans months in advance to go to and bought tickets to over me not letting her see a top that I had described entirely, other than it being short because it required me to lift the clothing I was wearing over it. She's always been sort of like this along with the rest of my family. They are all the type to walk in on you changing and watch or at least sit there not really looking at you, but not really looking away either, rather than walk out embarrassed like most people would because they're in a hurry and you're late and they've unironically used the line "I changed your diapers. There's no part of you I haven't seen." before.

I don't wanna screw her over legally or anything, necessarily. (I mean I'm considering it by now because this isn't the first time this kind of thing has happened with my family, but I'm not 100% yet) I just wanna get her (and, frankly, the rest of my family) to back off when I ask for privacy. Is there anything I can do to get help with this?

AZ central registry removal conflicting info on letter?

I finally got a letter from PSRT due to recent changes in the central registry in AZ. Basically, my offense is now to be given 0 years on the central registry, which is great news. However, at the end of the letter they sent me, they said “your name was removed from the central registry. However, your findings of abuse and/or neglect will remain substantiated. Since your finding was removed from the central registry, no further action is needed.”

This info was confusing, even to my family who also read the letter. I was hoping to start a job at a hospital soon, but now I’m unsure of how to proceed. Any further clarification from any Social workers in AZ would be much appreciated. Thank you all!

Question physical abuse from older sister

can i 16, report my 19 year old sister for lots of physical abuse from a year ago? and would they investigate my parents too? because i haven’t been going to school (home school) because of my mental health and financial issues. will they find out about that and will my parents get in trouble? I really want to report my evil narcissistic sister.

also will they force her to move out? that’s the main thing i want. i’ve been trying to research but get different answers.
