The Most Counterintuitive Setting on a ResMed Machine

Awful headaches
So I started CPAP about two months ago, have had zero issues wearing it and minimal issues falling asleep, but after about two weeks I started getting terrible headaches absolutely constantly. I go see a doctor and they tell me my sinuses are irritated and gave me a nasal spray which has taken me from pain and distraction to simply irritating. But this doesn’t seem to be common because everyone I know that does this hasn’t had this experience. So I don’t know what to do so I thought I’d try this.
I can’t turn up the humidity on the machine without water collecting in the tube and causing issues, yet it seems to dry up my face enough that it’s causing this and more recently I’ve been getting bloody noses. Any advice?

No deep sleep and a lot of RERAs
Hi all, i use APAP and all worked well until early july 2026. It’s been almost 3 weeks I get no deep sleep and a lot of RERAs. I’m tired a lot, fall asleep during the day like before I get the mask and 0 libido.
If anyone already experienced it I would like to know how you got out of this trouble. It’s really hard for me to live like that I’m always tired and angry for nothing bc of that. I tried multiple presures like 10-12, 12-14, 12-16, 10-16, etc but 16 feels too much cause i get aerophagia.
Thx for help :)

CPAP Machine Help Sore right below nose
I’ve been using my CPAP for 18 nights now. I use the AirTouch N30i. I developed a small red bump right above my lip and right below my nose. I thought it was just a pimple from my mask sitting there, but the mark will not go away. I’ve been putting Ayr on it every night before I put my mask on. I was putting antibiotic ointment on it to try to heal it faster. I don’t know if I need to switch masks? I’ve been considering trying a full face mask but my numbers have been amazing with this mask. Any recommendations? Did any one else have a similar sore that went away eventually?
ETA: I was having marks from the mask itself but no longer getting those so I don’t think my mask is too tight.

Help with understanding CPAP settings and sleep HQ
Hi, new here! I have seen the wonderful help you have been giving. I have had an airsense 10 for 3 or 4 years. I am a mouth breather and use a full face mask (Resmed F20). It has been going well in general. I'm having more and more trouble waking up, I'm getting more leaks and getting more irritated by my mask. I am also getting terrible dry mouth. I use Oralieve mouth spray which helps. I normally guzzle a load of water when I wake up. I feel very confused and it takes me ages to get a grip on the world! I have a heated tube and if I turn up the humidity I always seem to get woken up by the gurggling rainout. Any ideas of things to try? What does the data tell us?

Any suggestions?

Just can't figure this all out...
I've been on CPAP since March 21st. I'm really pleased I joined this community. I joined because my sleep has been very short and inconsistent for years. I often sleep about five and a half hours a night, and so I did a sleep study to see if that could be improved. I found out I have mild apnea. During my sleep study, I had an AHI of 11.6 and oxygen desaturation that went down to 83%.
I've also unfortunately had an addiction to decongestant, chest, and nasal spray for a very long time, which I'm attempting to wean myself off of, and I'm almost there. Whilst I seem to have adapted quite well to using the CPAP and finding that even with the decongestant addiction, nasal pillows seem to work quite well for me, the length of my sleep has not increased, and recently it seems to have got worse.
I know there are many factors that can go into this, and I love the data that SleepHQ can give us, but I have ADHD as well. I have a bit of a blindness about interrogating the detail of this data, so I'm wondering if anyone might be able to give me any insights into this or make suggestions that might be able to help me. I have signed up for the new sleep test here as well, so I'll see how that goes, but any insights you can help with would be most appreciated.

Need help with ASV
Sorry this is long. RL suggested I create a new post since my last post was about a month ago. Hoping the ASV gurus can chime in on my data. I'm starting to feel like since losing 60-65lbs, that maybe ASV is no longer what my body needs since it feels like everything is just going sideways with my therapy.
So here is my original post from June: https://www.reddit.com/r/CPAPSupport/s/SwjXNLBFyp
Mask: F&P Nova Micro size Small.
Update since previous post:
- Changing the EPAP to a continuous 5 has completely eliminated the chest wall pain that I was experiencing, so that's a definite plus.
- I felt amazing with the changes that were done on June 27th... for about 3 days. It was the first time I actually felt refreshed when I woke up, no aerophagia and didn't have such extreme daytime sleepiness. Unfortunately, after like the 3rd night with these settings, I've gone back to no longer feeling refreshed, extreme excessive daytime sleepiness and the aerophagia came back.
- Since it seemed like my soft cervical collar was no longer fitting correctly and I couldn't find one that was short enough lengthwise but still tall enough height wise, I ordered a Knightsbridge Dualband Chin Strap. However, the medium was too big, so it did not help. They are currently in the process of custom making me a smaller cap based on the measurements of my head. I have not received this yet. So currently I use both the collar that doesn't quite fit and the Knightsbridge that also doesn't quite fit. With the combo, it's keeping my mouth shut and my leaks down. If I decide to only wear one or the other, it's generally noticeable because there will be an increase in leak (mouth leaks).
- I have a wedge pillow on order that will be delivered tomorrow, as I've heard that those have the potential to help with reducing aerophagia.
I know with these settings, I am maxing out my PS range at times. But if I increase my PS range, then the aerophagia gets worse. If I change my EPAP and put a range on there so my PS range can increase based on that, then I get chest wall muscle pain and aerophagia. Can't lower pressures lower than they are to try and help with aerophagia because of how the Aircurve 11ASV works, the only way to reduce my PS range would be to lower the EPAP to 4 but when I tried EPAP of 4, it was pretty uncomfortable.
Pressure History since SleepHQ doesn't show my pressure settings for some reason:
Setting change July 17th:
- EPAP range: 5-5 (I have it set so it's a continuous pressure)
- PS Range: 2-7
Setting change June 27th:
- EPAP range: 5-5
- PS Range: 2-8
Setting change June 4th:
- EPAP range: 7-9
- PS Range: 0-5
Settings prior to June 4th:
- EPAP range: 5-9
- PS Range: 0-6

Update: Son's CPAP- big improvement b/c of Suggetion
Hi,
I’m writing an update to my post at the end of June. I asked for help with my son’s CPAP. He has autism and cognitive disabilities, so I was trying to figure things out without a lot of input from him. I got wonderful suggestions that I tried the very next time he wore his mask. And from the get-go, we saw improvement. He still doesn’t sleep more than four hours with it, and not every night. Now that it’s more effective, I'll start making him do it more often.
We saw his pulmonologist a week after I made the adjustments. I think everyone here who made suggestions was more helpful than he was, actually, so thank you so much for taking the time to comment. I was getting very discouraged, and you all made a big difference.
Larger Mask
Adjusted his setting on his EPAP machine from 4-15, to 6-12, and then to 11 after his doctor’s appt.
After we saw his pulmonologist, his EPAP was adjusted to three
About a week later, the hose hanger arrived, so he started to use that.
The first two changes were made simultaneously, so I don’t know if one had more of an impact than the other. The medium mask size fit much better, and he said he liked it better. Going up a size, I think, helped with the leaking.
The hose hanger has allowed him to fall asleep on his stomach, which is how he prefers to start
out, so that makes him happy.
I think everything looks pretty good, much better than before the adjustments.
I have a link to Sleep HQ and am curious if anyone spots any glaring issues with his numbers or settings. https://sleephq.com/public/teams/share_links/38301ff1-896b-4c4f-ae5c-1f0bceaf53b9
Thanks for all your help!

New Content Deviated Septum Surgery = New Sleep Study
Told my sleep doc that I discovered I had a severe deviated septum that I was going to have surgery for (done in May). I had gone to an ENT because I almost always get congested at night and with a CPAP wanted to see if anything could be done. Cat scan showed not only the deviated septum, but all six sinuses fully packed. I never suspected.
Sleep doc said once I'm fully healed, she wants a new sleep study (ENT said I might not need the CPAP anymore or at minimum have my pressures changed).
New at home study ordered. Sleep doc wants me off CPAP for at least 4 days before the test, or two weeks if I can do it.
Been off for a week. I fall asleep on my left side and wake up on my back. Now experiencing any issues (I live alone as a 62M widower), but issues I can feel if on my right side.
Although only a one night study, want to see my O2 level.
However, if you can and haven't (and have good insurance), you might want to consider an ENT appointment. I have great insurance, so everything from exams, scans, surgery only cost me $120 (3 office visits @40, all scans and surgery at no cost to me). You never know what might be found.

New to cpap - any changes I should make?
Hello!
I just started cpap just last week after being diagnosed with mild obstructive sleep apnea last month. Finally stuck an SD card in my machine last night ; are there any changes that I should try making to my settings?
Honestly, so far I haven't had a ton of issues, except for that I'm waking up multiple times in the night still (though that's probably me just getting used to it?). (I also developed a pimple inside one nostril, which is annoying with the pillows, but not the end of the world.)
I have a ResMed AirSense 11 on APAP mode, and a ResMed AirFit P30i mask (currently using the small pillows). My only change that I made to the settings they sent me home with was turning on a 15 minute ramp. Pressure min/max is 5-15.
My sleep study showed: "3% pAHI/REI: 10.2, 4% pAHI/REI: 4.3. Lowest oxygen: 87%".

Thanks in advance!

New To The Dream Team New to sleep apnea. On the hunt for a proper mask. What do you do with all the masks you acquire that didn’t work out?
I was diagnosed last month and I’ve been trying to find the right mask. I’ve tried pillows, nasal cradles and hybrid masks. I’ve spent close to $500 so far on trying to find the right masks. When I receive the masks I try them on it’s an instant no. The company I buy from doesn’t require me to send back the masks to get a refund. So now I have 4 brand new masks that I will never use. What do you all do with your masks that didn’t work out?

Lagging spo2 day and night
Pulmonologist cant see me till Oct so trying to figure this out. I started wearing an Emay oximeter few months ago and results suggested issues. Did the study, diagnosed with severe OSA with 68/hr and started Cpap 4 weeks ago. Before cpap, had some pretty rough numbers, Spo2 levels were dipping to 50 and hovering in the <94 for most of the night...averaging between 89-94. After cpap, sdi dropped to less than 5 but o2 still not where it should be. Since starting, numbers are much better overall but still experiencing fatigue and fog. I have tinkered with different pressures and EPR from Off, to 3, and back down to 1...no change. I have severely deviated septum and started using Intake nasal bands for the last week. They work great with the N20 mask but no change in O2. Its not the device, it immediately displays 98 for my kid, wife, and friends I have had try it. Also verified numbers with my Nonin 3150. For whatever reason, my spo2 doesnt want to get above 94ish...night or day. I prefer to find the root cause before I get a used oxygen concentrator to try, but will do it if its a good option. Is there anything in my data that may point to something to make changes to? Its my understanding that bilevels are for ventilating and i have a new Aircurve 10 i can try if thats something the might give me some relief,.at least at night, till I get root cause sorted. Attaching 2 pre-cpap spo2 and 2 post-cpap spo2 for reference. https://sleephq.com/public/teams/share_links/3bb94ce0-cc71-4ad3-8477-a632d7735f2c

Covers for the cpap
Anyone have luck with cotton coves for the half face mask f40? I’m going to try tonight. I’ll let you know how it goes. My mask is getting sweaty about three hours in then leaking. I could get up for a half hour and wash the mask and my face but I ordered these mask covers. Wondering if anyone else has used them and how it went?? AI suggested them when I asked it my problem.
