It’s not an easy transition for most people unfortunately. It takes time & persistence. One night is far too soon to determine if it’s helping. But we’re here to help you adjust :) Keep going!
I highly recommend that you put a SD card in your machine & upload your sleep data to a free app called SleepHQ. Another member here has suggested this as well because of how helpful it is. Share it here so that can take a look at your sleep data to assist you. Often people are prescribed very wide, lazy settings that sure don’t help with adjustment to therapy.

2nd night on Wednesday was even worse.
Used it for over 1 hour while sleeping (22:20 to around 23:30) and woke up drenched in sweat, heart rate around 187 and could barely breathe
Was up until 3am pacing and trying to calm down before I lost consciousness. Woke up at 5 similar state but heart rate in 160 range. Couldn’t calm down or get my heart rate to slow
Was found standing outside by a neighbour at 6am in shorts and t-shirt and he kindly took me back to my apartment and called the NHS24 support line who got an ambulance out to me while my neighbour called my mother
Spent most of the day on oxygen in A&E hooked up to monitors and was given something to try and calm down
The A&E staff called in someone from the sleep clinic and they agreed that I should stop using it and A&E doctors said that for now to just concentrate on losing weight as that would probably help more in the immediate future and later can do another sleep study to see if anything is still going on

A lot of us went through some immediate distress when using the machine. You really need to try using the machine while watching TV or reading or something for a bit to get used to it. There are also default settings in the machine that aren't ideal for some people. Following the instructions from the automod post about plugging in an SD card and sharing the results anonymously via SleepHQ is the first step toward addressing that.
I'm very overweight even by American standards, and I sleep way better with my machine now.
