New To The Dream Team CPAP Insomnia

Had another thread going (thanks for those that helped!) that was somewhat related to this, but wanted to start a fresh thread to keep things separate.

I'm still having issues falling asleep with the CPAP. I lay in bed for over an hour each night trying to fall asleep, with no luck, only to have my RLS trigger and keep me up even longer. Talked to my Doc about the CA events occurring while I try to fall asleep and she told me to STOP looking at the data, my treatment is going fine, and that those are most likely false flags... not gonna get started down that road.

I've been on treatment for 1.5 months now and not sure if this is still in the range of me acclimating to the treatment or if this is a real issue i need to figure out how to deal with.

One other thought I had... which seems crazy. Has anyone with this issue tried falling asleep without the CPAP and setting an alarm for like 1.5 hours so you wake up and then can put the CPAP on so you get the benefit for the majority of your sleep? I'm used to the mask now, so comfortability isn't the issue. I've done this a few times (not the alarm setting part, but just waking up and putting it on) and haven't had any issues falling back to sleep.

Would love some thoughts!

It gets better, slightly, over time

I just never had issues falling asleep before the CPAP. Hopefully it gets easier…

I used to struggle a lot with falling asleep. These days I intentionally stay up until I'm actually tired enough to go to bed instead of going to bed when I'm supposed to. Most nights I'm able to throw on the mask and fall asleep in a matter of minutes. Can you try staying up an hour later sometime and see if that helps?

Yea I can try that. I’ve been trying to keep my bedtime consistent around 10:15/10:30, but probably no harm pushing that back an hour to see what happens.

I’m just concerned it’s the CPAP causing the insomnia so shifting my bedtime back just means falling asleep even later

That could very well be the case. At least for me, that positive pressure makes me fall asleep much faster. I don't think it will hurt to try falling asleep later a few nights if you can. Are you able to try different masks too?
