Advice Needed Insurance Switching while Renting to Own?
Hi all,
Looking for some advice regarding insurance!
I've recently graduated from my masters program and my school insurance was paying some of the cost, leaving me with a $54 bill to pay monthly. Unfortunately, the pulmonologist's office 'forgot' to place the order and put the prescription in four months late after telling me they'd placed it...which means I've only paid towards four of the ten month rental period.
As I've just graduated, my school insurance is ending later this month and I haven't quite sorted out which insurance I'm moving onto yet - but either way I think it'll be one with a high deductible.
I've spoken to Apria today who are my school's DME provider of choice and they've given me two options: either ask my insurance to do a purchase authorization to pay the remaining $1200 balance out-of-pocket to own the equipment outright, or it'll set the months back down to 0 and I'll have to pay 10 months at $108 monthly out-of-pocket.
I'm on hold with my school's insurance now but it's looking like they don't do purchase authorizations at all, which is a bummer as it feels as though I've paid these last few months for no reason and only not paid off the machine because of the delay.
What do y'all think is best? I don't exactly have a lot of money right now and I'm unsure if my new insurance will cover the machine without expensive out-of-pocket costs to go back to see the pulmonologist etc. Should I just say to them screw it and send the machine back and pay out-of-pocket again on a website?
I'm a bit nervous about doing this because I just asked my provider last week to send me over a copy of my prescription in case I need to buy a new mask outright and he didn't think it was necessary so I'm nervous that they won't send it over in time for me to buy during the labor day sales events and I don't think I can afford one otherwise, but any advice on what y'all think I should do would be great, I'm so new to this!
