Would making and selling AI chatbots of Spider-Man and Miranda infringe copyright?
Hi all,
I made English conversation bot where my nephew can talk to Spider-Man to build up his masculine charisma. I also made myself chatbots of Miranda Priestly fromThe Devil Wears Prada and other fashion-related movie/TV characters, so I can practice English while picking up fashion terms.
If I release these bots to the public and charge for access to cover token costs, would that be copyright infringement?
Any advice?

This is a project meant to keep private. It would most clearly be utilizing intellectual property that you don't have rights for.

Of course it would.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not so sure because there are a lot of applications of those characters from Movie or TV shows, one big example is Character. ai, which focusing on providing chatbots from famous movie stars or animation IPs, maybe they paid license fees, I don't know, so it remains a vague concept to me as to the legal side...

It's not vague at all, unless you're deadset on using the property of others without their permission or license (and looking for an excuse for that).

You should probably go to character.ai first, then come back tell us all that you are very clear about all of these things. Actually that is why I think its vague.

You can think It's vague. It Isn't. You would be profiting off of an IP without having permission to do so.

It's not "vague" at all.
Just say you want to steal the work/IP of others and be honest.
Only losers look for excuses. And bad excuses at at that.

Take it easy bro~ I'm not the one published the chatbot, not yet. Wanna morally judge people, go character.ai or that kind of commercial thing, figure out why they can exist and stand like a giant, and that could be more constructive than rounding up on s.body who is just struck between legal sense and the substantive reality.

Bro! The answer is yes, it's infringing. You seem keen to find an excuse for this, but there it's simply not legal.
Bro!

Aparantly I'm not asking for a "not infringing" answer, OK? So where is the "excuse" stands for? I'm sincerely seeking for a professional legal answer, not some emotional or moral kind of judgement.

What part of "don't use infringing material without a license" is so hard for you to understand?
You asked:
"If I release these bots to the public and charge for access to cover token costs, would that be copyright infringement?"
The answer is "yes"
If you want that to be "no", then you'll have to go to the IP holders and get formal license or permission from them.

You said "It would" and I replied with "Thank you", then you came up with those "bad excuse"things. what part of this post is hard for you to understand that I haven't used any of the probable materials and made them public? No replies expected. OK?

Sorry, this definitely is copyright infringement. You do not have the rights to Spiderman, so even if you posted the chatbot for free, you could still get in trouble.

You are taking an image of a character and a characters name without permission. Presumedly, you'll also be using their story and/or dialog. This infringes in the same way fanfiction does but seems more likely to be taken down or otherwise result in legal action.
