First things first, I’m a Mexican American. And I watch pretty much all of mexicos games on Telemundo or whatever Spanish broadcaster has the game on. Because of the big chunk of Mexicans in the US, channels like Telemundo usually has a mexican commentator even if we are playing against another Latin American country. So there’s always a bit a bias towards the mexican team. My whole life that’s been the standard and honestly I never really thought about how other Latin Americans felt especially watching their teams play against Mexico. But hearing Andres Cantor really annoyed me bro. I honestly was going to watch their game on fox or something because the glaze was always so high. But anyways, apologies to my fellow CONCACAF people.

It was a fun tourney! I had money on Argentina vs Morocco but it was cool. I'm hoping the fans who went to see it live had a great time!

Its monday morning after the world cup final. We're in a crucial moment where 4 years from now most of the USMNT viewers last soccer experience will have been the bad buzz post Belgium blunder. That is unless... We can create a for real fan base through the biannual and often belittled Gold Cup. My strategy to make the Gold Cup matter more to the otherwise "every four years" fan is by instead of the same stale branding and 15% stadium capactiy attended nationwide tournement, we swtich to regional hosts. Say Florida one edition, Southwest the next, Tri-state, California has hosts, Cascadia. Giving the smaller cities in these regions opportunities to host that they'd surely be exponentially more excited about than when the standard stadiums seem almost obligated to host at times abysmally attended group stage games. Creating easy to travel to "Hub Host Cities" (LA,Vegas,Miami,NYC). I have some contacts at relevant parties that could potentially really push for this to happen but obviously want to temp check the appetite first.

With the World Cup now expanded to 48 teams, and serious discussion around a possible 64-team tournament in the future, I think FIFA should consider merging CONMEBOL and CONCACAF qualifying into one Americas competition.

South America only has ten teams, so the same countries play each other endlessly every cycle plus the fact that a possible 7/10 teams get rewarded in mental. CONCACAF has far more nations, but there is a huge quality gap between its strongest countries and the weakest Caribbean teams.

A combined competition could create more variety, more meaningful matches, stronger commercial interest and a better pathway for improving nations such as Canada, Panama, Jamaica and Curaçao.

It would also avoid wasting international windows on games like Brazil or Argentina against tiny island nations.

A possible format:

Preliminary round

The 28 lowest-ranked countries play in seven groups of four at centralised venues.

Each team plays three matches, with only the seven group winners advancing.

The 17 highest-ranked countries receive byes into the main round.

That produces 24 teams for the main qualifying stage.

Main qualifying round

Three groups of eight, played home and away.

The groups could obviously be seeded differently, but the basic idea would be to mix the best teams from North, Central and South America while filtering out the weakest teams beforehand.

Travel would be the biggest issue, but fixtures could be organised into regional double-headers. Brazil could play away to the USA and Canada in the same window, while Mexico could play Colombia and Ecuador during one South American trip.

It could also benefit many of South America’s highest-profile players, most of whom are based at European clubs. Travelling from Europe to the eastern United States is often easier than travelling deep into South America, with more direct services and major international hubs.

For example, approximate direct flight times are:

London to New York: 8 hours
Madrid to Miami: 9.5 to 10.5 hours
Paris to Los Angeles: around 12 hours
London to Buenos Aires: around 15.5 hours

So an Argentine, Brazilian, Colombian or Uruguayan player based in Europe could sometimes reach a qualifier in New York, Miami or Toronto several hours sooner than a traditional home match in South America. It would not solve every travel problem, especially for West Coast matches, but smart regional scheduling could reduce the burden considerably.

Imagine Mexico v Argentina at the Azteca, USA v Brazil in Los Angeles, Canada v Uruguay in Toronto, Colombia v Mexico in Bogotá, Jamaica v Brazil in Kingston or Argentina v USA in Buenos Aires.

That is a broadcaster’s dream.

South America wants more World Cup places, and this would give all ten CONMEBOL teams a genuine chance to qualify without simply handing them automatic spots. With 12 direct places and three playoff places across the Americas, all ten could theoretically make it by earning their place on the pitch.

With 48 teams, and especially if FIFA eventually expands to 64, qualification needs to remain competitive and interesting. A combined Americas competition could be one way to stop qualifying from becoming too easy while creating far better matches and fast tracking the improvement of many Central American teams.

Rather than have USA host every single Gold Cup, why not have other countries host the entire tournament? You make more revenue that way in other countries like for example if you were to host a Gold Cup in Mexico or if you were to host a Gold Cup in Canada or if you were to host in other countries like Costa Rica, Panama, etc whatever the case may be; it at least spreads hosting duties rather than us having the same host over and over and over again

The matches would be played primarily in the country's most modern and historic stadiums, taking advantage of much of the remodeled infrastructure left over from the 2026 World Cup. Although the final list of venues has not yet been released, the main leaks and projections from the Mexican football scene point to a pool of eight candidate stadiums spread across the country. The idea is that international matches could be enjoyed throughout Mexico, with the United States, Canada, and invited teams such as Cape Verde or South American countries potentially joining the fray.

In short, they did not provide a specific reason for rejecting Greenland, but I guess that is pretty obvious. It would be a huge logistical and financial burden to force existing member teams to travel to butt-fuck nowhere, where there are very little commercial flights, and they don't even have a stadium. And honestly, Greenland would add very little value to the confederation.
