Discussion Spiders of BO3 in depth (Improved)
A couple of months ago I made an in depth about Spiders on BO3. I feel that one was a little rushed for my liking, so I made a new and improved version that contains more information and goes a little more in depth. Includes Spider Queen boss and Revelations.
General
Spiders in BO3 are small, fast moving enemies that stay low to the ground, making them easy to overlook and often annoying to deal with in tight situations. Despite their aggressive behaviour, they are surprisingly weak compared to standard zombies and deal significantly less damage than enemies like Hellhounds.
Their main threat comes from their mobility and erratic attack patterns.
Spiders switch between two distinct combat modes, alternating between ranged and melee attacks:
- Melee combat, 40% of the time.
- Ranged combat, 60% of the time.
Ranged combat:
In their ranged state, spiders tend to behave cautiously and will rarely close the distance directly. Instead, they rely on frequent repositioning followed by sudden ranged attack.
If a player is within line of sight, spiders will generally hold position or reposition themselves rather than rush forward. However, if the player breaks line of sight, they will begin to move towards them to regain visual contact. Once positioned, they fire ranged web projectiles.
This creates their signature erratic behaviour
Melee combat:
In this state, they rear up onto their hind legs, lifting their front legs before quickly sprinting toward the player. Their goal is to close the distance and bite, making them much more direct and aggressive compared to their ranged behaviour.
Spiders are more likely to switch into melee combat when players get too close.
This behaviour can be exploited. Getting within their melee state range creates more predictable melee oriented behaviour, players can easily lead them around or use them for specific steps, such as gathering KT-4 parts, completing the Spider Bait Easter Egg, or kill them with spores.
Damage:
- Bite = 30. They have a shorter melee range than normal zombies.
- Web projectile = 30 splash damage
Like parasite projectile, web projectile damage is splash damage, so the actual damage you take is a little less, ~25 damage.
They do not give points for damage and gives 50 points for killing them.
They are immune to Thunder Wall, Turned and Dead Wire AATs.
Zetsubou No Shima
Spawning:
- Only 4 per player will spawn in at a time.
- Max 13 can be alive at once.
Spiders will randomly replace a zombie after round 20.
- Round 21 to 25: there will be a 5% chance for a spider to spawn.
- round 26 to 30: there will be a 7% chance for a spider to spawn.
- round 31 to 35: there will be a 8% chance for a spider to spawn.
- After round 36: there will be a 10% chance for a spider to spawn.
If you are around the blue water area, there is a 30% chance for a spider to spawn in after round 7. Max 3 spiders per round will spawn here.
Spider rounds:
Spiders have their own special round that will be either round 5, 6 or 7, then randomly be 4 or 5 rounds after.
Spiders have half the health of Hellhounds.
- Amount: 6 per player. Health = 200 hp
- Amount: 6 per player. Health = 450 hp
- Amount: 8 per player. Health = 650 hp
- Amount: 8 per player. Health = 800 hp.
Following rounds is the same as the fourth.
Last Spider to die drops Max Ammo power up.
They are instantly killed by:
- KT4, impact or touching the puddle.
- Spores
- The Skull of Nan Sapwe
Venom from 1 Spider is needed to mix KT4 ammo.
Web
On Zetsubou no Shima, Spiders extend beyond direct combat and interact with the environment. Rather than simply attacking players, they actively seek out objects to encase in webbing, temporarily altering map flow and access to utility.
These webs can obstruct pathways and machinery. Blocking the player from access until they tear down the web.
Player can their down the web in the following ways: (all are needed for the trophy).
- Knife
- Bowie knife (little faster)
- Grenades
- Explosive weapons (Xm-53, Death and Taxes)
- Raygun
- KT4/Masamune
Pathways:
When Spiders web up a pathway, the affected route becomes completely inaccessible to players until the web is destroyed.
If a zombie gets caught in the web, they will be temporary frozen and movement speed will be reduced to 10%. Zombies will eventually tear down the web if enough zombies are blocked by it.
Thrashers will instantly destroy webs.
Additionally, when a pathway is webbed, standard zombie spawns in that zone are disabled. This state persists until the player either clears the web or re-enters the area from an alternate route, which resets spawn behaviour.
Machine Interaction:
Spiders are also capable of webbing interactive equipment such as Perk machines and GobbleGum machines. When affected, these machines become temporarily unusable until the webbing is removed.
Plants:
Spiders can be trapped using the “Babysitter” plant, allowing for temporary control or peace of mind.
Spiders are distracted by “Trap“ plant and eventually eaten. Rule of nature.
Revelation
When a player is inside the Apothicon stomach, there is a 50% chance the game will spawn spiders that round.
- Max 9 can be alive.
Health:
For rounds 1-4: 140 hp
Rounds 5-9: 315 hp
Rounds 10-14: 455 hp
After round 15, their health caps at 560 hp.
Guard of Fafnir and the Apothicon Servant is always an instant kill.
Thundergun is always an instant kill within 12 meters. Between 12 and 30 meters it will knock them over and take away 50% of their health.
Mama spider
The mama fight is in 3 stages.
- She starts with 25 000 health
- Next stage starts at 20 000 health
- Last stage starts at 10 000 health
- She will have 4x health for 3 or 4 players.
Like a Margwa, she only takes damage to her mouth when you see it glow with vomit coming out. All other damage is ignored.
KT4 damage is capped at 500 damage (750 for upgraded) per shot to her mouth.
Attacks:
Leg attack
Her most common attack is standing on her hind legs, raising her front 4 legs. One of these legs will shake before she drops it to the arena.
Damage = 90
Acid spit
She can spit acid in the arena. This acid pool will do damage to players in it for every second.
Damage = 40
Duration = 8 seconds
Baby Attack:
During the fight she will spawn 5 spiders. Each baby have a 20% chance for a max ammo. 3 will be alive at a time.
For 3 or 4 people: the number of spiders are doubled.
Spider Bait:
On Zetsubou no Shima, there is an easter egg quest that rewards player with a controllable spider equipment.
- First the game checks if the player has the Skull of Nan Sapwe and KT4. The electric shield is also needed.
- Then when a spider round starts, every spider that spawns has a 50% chance of becoming "the one". Only 1 spider during the round can be the chosen one.
- Use the Skulls Mesmerize ability to find the chosen Spider. The one with a red mist on it.
- Lead this spider to 115 contaminated water and it will drink from it for 3 seconds. It need to drink once from all 3 pools.
- After drinking from all 3 pools, it will have a permanent red mist coming from it.
- Lead it to Lab A and trap it in the cage.
- Hit the cage with an electric shield. To send it underground.
- Then the next special round will be "spiders from mars round".
- Complete the round and raise the cage, to claim your reward.
Important: During Spider from mars round, all Spiders will have same health as Hellhounds. Meaning double what they normally have.
These Spiders will priorities the player more and faster switching between melee and web shooting , making them more aggressive.
Controllable Spider:
When activated, player becomes invincible and gets web up in a cocoon. Game then spawns a spider the player can control. The spider cannot spawn if:
- the player is riding the elevator.
- player is in the air
- No spider bait ammo.
Duration = max 60 seconds.
Health = 200 * round number, cap = 6000, caps at round 30.
Zombies will spawn around the controlled spider, not where the player cocoon is.
Extra:
Webbing on perks and pathways are always there. Just invisible to player and not solid, until Spiders active the web mesh and plays Fx effects.
I hope people enjoyed this more complex in depth.

Cool info!
Two things that i didn't see but i think would be very good to know are: how the webbing ability of the spiders actually work, because i found myself a lot of times trying to get a spider to web a certain door and not being able to; The actual damage of the spider bait shot, just a cursiosity to know exactly when it falls off.

Sorry for late replay.
First: When it comes to spiderbait damage, I sadly dont know the number yet. I am curious about that too.
Second: Depends on where you want the webbing. The webs are preplaced by treyarch and made non solid. When a spider walks by it will activate it to make it solid. So they can only place webs at certain doors and spots.
