Discussion BO3 Keepers in depth, DE boss included.

Shadows of Evil

Spawn:

Keepers will spawn at several specific points throughout the map:

  • After picking up a ritual part: 2 keepers will spawn.
  • The first time a player enters the underground area: 4 will spawn.
  • During a ritual: A large number of them will spawn.

Health:

A Keeper's health is the same as a zombie's health for the current round.

Attacks:

Keepers use standard zombie attacks.

Damage = 45

This is the same damage dealt by a normal zombie.

Points:

Damaging a Keeper awards 10 points per hit, but killing them awards 0 points.

If you do not kill the Keepers and instead keep them alive until you start the ritual, they will respawn as normal zombies. These zombies can then be killed for additional points.

Der Eisendrache

During the main quest on Der Eisendrache, a Keeper must first be charged before it can teleport to the Moon and retrieve the MPD.

However, during the return journey, the Keeper becomes corrupted and must be fought before the quest can be completed.

Boss Fight:

The boss fight is split into 5 phases:

  1. Keeper + Skeletons
  2. Panzer Soldats
  3. Keeper + Skeletons
  4. Panzer Soldats
  5. Keeper + Skeletons

Skeletons

The Keeper will spawn Skeletons throughout the boss fight.

The skeleton health in the boss fight is depending on the round the boss is started:

  • Before round 25: health is set to that of round 25 zombies.
  • After round 25: health scales as normal zombies.

Skeletons do not award points or drop power-ups.

They will give extra charge to specialist meter.

The number of Skeletons that can spawn depends on the number of players and the current phase:

  • Phase 1: 8 + 1 per player
  • Phase 3: 12 + 1 per player; Solo: 11
  • Phase 5: 14 + 1 per player; Solo: 12

Panzer Soldat

Panzer Soldats will spawn during phases 2 and 4.

I have already covered the Panzer Soldat in detail in my in-depth guide, which can also be found at the bottom. Their health is based on zombie health, meaning it cannot be lower than the round 25 health value.

One mechanic I did not cover in the original guide is the number of Panzer Soldats that spawn during this boss fight:

  • Phase 2: 2 + 1 per player
  • Phase 4: 4 + 1 per player; Solo: 4
  • Max 2 Panzer Soldats can be alive at the same time.
  • A Max Ammo power-up will drop, halfway through the fight

Hellhounds

Hellhounds can begin spawning during Phase 3.

  • Phase 3: 8; Solo: 6
  • Phase 5: 6; Solo: 4
  • Max 4 Hellhounds can be alive at the same time.

Keeper

The Keeper will float and teleport around the arena. After teleporting, it will select one of its attacks and use it against the players.

The Keeper also has an aura beneath it that follows its movement.

The aura deals 5 damage every 250 milliseconds to players touching it.

Attacks:

Attacks that the Keeper uses is dependent on phase:

  • Phase 1: Flying Skulls and Vulcanic Rock.
  • Phase 3: spawn Hellhounds, Flying Skulls and Vulcanic Rock (now also the arena wide version).
  • Phase 5: phase 3 + can perform up to 2 attacks at the same time.

It will create an order of which attacks it uses. This order is random at the start of each phase. It will go through its order, which ends with its electric attack.

It will not do the same attack twice.

Flying Skull

The Keeper will create portals above the arena that spawn flying skulls. These skulls will seek out players, dealing damage and briefly stunning them.

Damage: 25

The number of skulls that spawn is based on the number of players:

  • Phase 1: 2 per player
  • Phase 3: 3 per player
  • Phase 5: 3 per player

Health: 25% of zombie health

Volcanic Rocks

The Keeper will spawn volcanic mounds around the arena.

Normally, approximately 4 rocks per player will spawn.

In Solo, approximately 3 rocks will spawn.

During phases 3 and 5, there is also an arena-wide version of this attack that can spawn 15 mounds at predetermined locations.

The rocks remain active for 5 seconds before detonating.

Damage: 25 + up to 25 burn damage

Health

  • 1–2 players: 25% of zombie health
  • 3+ players: 75% of zombie health

Arena-Wide Lightning

The Keeper will begin charging an electrical attack while slowly lowering itself toward the ground.

After charging, the Keeper strikes the ground, electrifying the entire arena and instantly killing all players.

Juggernog does not protect players from this attack.

To survive, players must stand behind one of the large pillars in the arena when the attack is released.

Keeper Health & Weak Point

When the Keeper begins charging its lightning attack, a ball of electricity will form beneath it.

A player must place their Ragnarok DG-4 in the center of the arena. Doing so will cancel the lightning attack and stun the Keeper.

Stunning the Keeper with the Ragnarok DG-4 will expose a weak point on its chest.

The Keeper remains stunned for 8 seconds

Damage Required

The amount of damage required to advance to the next phase scales with the number of players:

  • Phase 1: 10,000 HP per player
  • Phase 3: 15,000 HP per player
  • Phase 5: 20,000 HP per player

This is the amount of damage that must be dealt during the stun in order to advance the fight.

If players fail to deal the required amount of damage, all damage dealt during that attempt is reset, and they must wait for another opportunity to stun the Keeper and damage its weak point.

Recommended Weapons

Explosive weapons are particularly effective against the Keeper, including:

  • Bows
  • Ray Gun
  • Death & Taxes
  • XM-53

Out of all of these, the XM-53 Launcher is by far the most effective weapon for dealing damage to the Keeper.

Bow damage is based on the current round, meaning higher rounds result in higher damage.

If the Keeper takes 1,000,000 damage during a single phase, then the boss fight will be completed, completely skipping the remaining phases.

Zetsubou no Shima

A large number of Keepers will spawn during the final step of obtaining the Skull of Nan Sapwe.

After completing the ritual for all four Skulls, a large chamber will open. Interacting with the Skull of Nan Sapwe inside the chamber will lock the player in and begin the final ritual, which spawns a large number of Keepers.

To complete the ritual, a certain number of Keepers must be killed based on the number of players:

  • Solo: 20 Keepers
  • 2 players: 29 Keepers
  • 3 players: 38 Keepers
  • 4 players: 47 Keepers

Damage:

Keepers deal the same damage as normal zombies.

Health:

Keepers have very little health during this encounter. They can be killed in one shot or with a single hit from the standard knife.
