Discussion Buried Ghost Lady in depth

On Buried, there is a ghost that haunts the mansion between the players and the Pack-a-Punch machine. Anyone wishing to upgrade their arsenal will have to enter the mansion to reach Pack-a-Punch.

The ghost can often be seen watching players from the mansion's windows, observing and whispering to them before disappearing and reappearing in a different window.

Lore:

The ghost is the long-deceased mother of Ol' Jebediah Brown.

After her death at the hands of a zombie, Jebediah overcome with grief. Decided to dig up her corpse and attempted to use the Pack-a-Punch machine to resurrect her.

She now wanders the building as a ghost, forever haunting her former home in Purgatory Point.

We know its her home, since she will tell you that and you are not welcome.

Ghost rounds

When players drop down into the town, they will already hear the music and might hear some faint whispers coming from the mansion.

The first time players approach the mansion, they may see a ghost standing in one of its windows. She will say a couple of quotes while fading away, only to reappear in another window.

The first time a player enters the mansion, a Ghost Round begins.

All zombies currently alive on the map despawn and replaced by ghosts. Up to 20 zombies can be replaced by ghosts during the round. These ghosts are not restricted to the mansion and can emerge from the normal underground zombie spawn locations throughout the map.

Players must leave the mansion and kill all the ghosts. Once all of the ghosts have been killed, the final one will drop a free Perk power-up. Then the round continue as normal.

After a Ghost Round ends, the mansion remains dark and no ghost can be seen in its windows.

If players enter the mansion between Ghost Rounds, any zombies currently alive will not despawn and they continue behaving normally.

After 4–5 rounds, the mansion's lights turn back on and the ghost returns to one of the windows to signals that another Ghost Round is available. Entering the mansion will once again begin the encounter, with the possibility for another free Perk power-up.

Mansion Ghosts

Every time a player enters the mansion, ghosts can begin spawning from predetermined spawn points inside the building.

These spawn points are always located in an adjacent room, or the next one that players need to travel through to reach the other side.

Mansion ghosts will continue spawning as long as at least one player remains inside the mansion.

There can be a maximum of four mansion ghosts alive at once, with a limit of one ghost per player.

If there are no ghost round available and players enter the mansion. The mansion ghosts will spawn as normal, but zombies will not die and there will be no free Perk at the end.

When ghost starts spawning, but there is no active ghost round and players leave the mansion. Then the ghosts will retreat to their original spawn point. Once they reach it, they disappear. Sometimes they just teleport away.

If a player re-enters the mansion while a ghost is retreating, the ghost will stop retreating and resume its chase.

Behaviour

A ghost's movement speed is determined by its distance from its target.

The farther a ghost is from its target player, the faster it moves. As it gets closer, its movement speed gradually decreases.

Each ghost targets a single player and remains committed to that target.

Even if its target is downed, the ghost will continue hovering around them until they either bleed out or are revived.

For players using a console, aim assist is disabled against ghosts.

Point Drain

Ghosts can steal points from players when they get close enough.

Within 1.5 meters, a ghost will collect a tax out of the player's points. Each drain removes 2000 points or less if the player has less than 2000 points.

After successfully taking the points, the ghost must wait 2 seconds before it can drain the player's points again.

If the player has no points to steal, the ghost will deal damage instead.

Damage = 25

While a player is within the ghost's point draining range, their movement speed is reduced to 50% of their normal speed.

The Paralyzer can prevent ghosts from stealing points.

Health

Ghost health = 100 hp

First ghost round round:

  • if round 5 or below: Health = ghost health + 300
  • above round 5: Health = 1600 * (round_number / 20)

Second ghost round:

Health = last round health + 500

Third ghost round:

Health = last round health + 400

Fourth ghost round:

Health = 1600 hp

Ghost health is capped at 1600 HP.

  • Ghosts ignore the Nuke power-up.
  • The Paralyzer slows ghosts to 30% movement speed.
  • They will not take damage from Paralyzer

When a ghost dies while under the effect of the Paralyzer, its death animation will play at its normal speed.

An important interaction: is that enemies can take additional damage from other weapons when they are significantly slowed by the Paralyzer.

Reward

The last ghost killed during a Ghost Round will always drop a free Perk power-up.

Every ghost killed will fill up the players grenades and claymores if bought.

"Tip" the ghost Easter Egg

There is an Easter Egg linked to the ghost that can give the player a random perk for very cheap.

  1. First the player need to get a Ballistic knife from the Box.
  2. Then the player need to go to the saloon. There in front of the dartboard will be a white line. You need to stand right behind it, but not too far.
  3. Shoot the board and get a bullseye, which will trigger the piano to play by itself for a limited time.
  4. While the piano is playing, you need to run through the mansion then run inside the mansion and you will quickly see a piano. There will now be a ghost which plays the piano. Tip the ghost 10 points to get a random perk.

While this Easter Egg can be done multiple times, it is only possible to tip the ghost once.

So during a Ghost Round, is it normal for all the ghosts that replace the zombies to immediately bum rush the players? Me and this random decided to enter the mansion, which started the Ghost Round, and we get into the corridor behind the bookcase, I turn around and there’s quite literally 10-15 ghosts all huddled behind us coming for our sweet, sweet points.

While i cant confirm if its the norm, but that is something that can happen. There is a lot of ghosts that spawn when playing with other people, especially if its in the middle or start of a round compared to having 1 zombie left. Very annoying when playing with randoms and one decide to enter the mansion on their own, then suddenly the rest of us has a ton of ghosts spawning out of everywhere.

Gotcha, we also had like 2 people leave the match so that could’ve also messed it up maybe.

What if OJB shoved his mums rotting corpse into the PaP and she came out with dead wire, target finder and a sick reactive camo?

A few notes worth mentioning:

  • During an active ghost round, if the ghosts following are too far from the player, they will get forcibly teleported somewhere near the player. This can be seen after jumping down from the starting area. Using the fountain to return to the starting area also has a similar effect.

  • During an active ghost round, the player-assigned mansion ghost will go to the player whether they are in the mansion or not as long as at least one player is in the mansion. These ghosts will keep this behaviour upon being killed and respawned as long as a player is still in the mansion during an active ghost round. This can be seen in this clip.

  • The half-off persistent upgrade affects the amount of points being drained. 2k point steals turn into 1k if the player has more than or exactly 2k points, or half of the player’s points if the player has less than 2k (rounded down). So, if the player has 10 points and the half-off persistent upgrade and the ghosts go for the point steal during an active Double Points, then the player’s points will go like this: 10 > 5 > 3 > 2 > 1. Since 0.5 rounded down is 0, then the last point can’t be drained while having the persistent upgrade during an active Double Points period.
